Thats the Basketball i grew up with and it was so exciting and entertaining. Not like today. Lakers had kareem, magic, macadoo a strong great team, but they didn't have a bird
The 80's were so much fun for the NBA and the 90's oaky today's NBA, well, I'll be nice and say not good. Loved the Celtics in the 80's Bird is my favorite player ever. stopped watching the NBA when Michael Jordan retired.
Celtics did win the championship that year. The Lakersvwon the 1st 2 games and Bird called his teammates a bunch of sissy. They couldn't match L.A.'s speed so the made it physical.
Here you go the 80's Celtics vs Lakers championships rivalry during the 80's: The Celtics would get a new head coach in K.C. Jones, who was also a former Celtics player, and two teams finally had their long-awaited rematch in the 1984 NBA Finals, a grueling seven-game series that had many memorable moments, including a 137-104 blowout in Game 3 that led Bird to call his Celtic teammates "sissies", the Kevin McHale takedown of Laker forward Kurt Rambis which led to increased physical aggression by both teams, the sweltering heat of the infamously un-airconditioned Boston Garden in Game 5, and Cedric Maxwell's 24-point performance in Game 7.The Celtics went on to win in seven games, increasing their record of Finals' series victories against the Lakers to 8-0. The following year, the Lakers finally had their revenge, winning the 1985 NBA Finals by taking Game 6 in Boston Garden, becoming the first visiting team to win an NBA championship in that arena before Golden State Warriors repeated it in 2022. Lakers owner Jerry Buss famously remarked that "this has removed the most odious sentence in the English language. It can never again be said that 'the Lakers have never beaten the Celtics'". The Celtics rebounded the following year to win the 1986 NBA Finals against the Rockets. In the 1987 NBA Finals, the two teams met for a tie-breaker of their 1980s Finals matches, and the Lakers once again emerged victorious in six games, with the iconic image of Johnson's junior sky hook. This series marked the end of an era for the Celtics. They did not reach the Finals again until 2008.
This sums it up. The 80s. Basketball was physical, men were men and these 2 teams were the rivalry. Bird was the Word and he owned the old Boston Garden. A place no team wanted to travel to. A sweat box filled to capacity with knowledgeable rabid fans. Those were the days my friend.
Oh what it was to be a Celtics fan during the '80s. I deeply miss it. I know the C's are really good again in '24 as we speak. But the '80s Celtics -- AND Lakers, to be fair -- were intriguing on a level not seen to this day.
I would argue that NBA stars from the 80s and 90s would have been far more successful in today's NBA with their rules than today's stars would if they jumped in a time machine and played basketball in like 1985. Imagine Labron playing in the mid-1980's. You can take all his numbers and shave off at least 35%. Now imagine Bird playing in today's game. He would feast offensively in today's game. Probably can add at least 35% more offense production. It would not even be fair.

I used to enjoy basketball back then…
The Lakers missed the free throws because Larry Bird got so far inside their heads. Larry! Larry!
ML Carr came to my school to do an anti drug presentation. I was picked to get rebounds for him!
Kareem was famous for talking shit while backing up.😂😂🤣

I miss that...unfortunately the NFL is getting soft like that as well, I understand why, but it's not the same, like the NBA. @@glenndespres5317
