Yes! He’s also implied to be somewhere in his early mid 20’s when we first meet him, and most people that age would not have a deep bass-baritone voice (their voice still has a long way to go to mature).
Glad you enjoyed it and that it brought back such happy memories. =) I've got another video of Sir Thomas singing 'Soliloquy' live in one of his recitals - if you're interested you can check out my user homepage.
What a lovely rendition -- and I'm someone who thinks Gordan MacRae was the greatest. Thanks for wonderful entertainment. Barbara Kent, author SUCCESS In the Words of the Masters.
I think that he should have recorded Billy in the 1986 Carousel with Barbara Cook instead of Samuel Ramey a great singer but Billy is a baritone not a bass .
This song reminds me of the birth of my little girl...this "Soliloquy" was in my mind the day she was born. Lovely song. Well done Sir Thomas Allen.
One of the greatest singers of all time. A masculine ideal in action! Does anyone no love Sir Thomas? Impossible even to imagine. ;-)
Thanks for this version of Billy's Soliloquy. Say, could you upload the whole songs from Great Operatic Arias? I couldn't get the CD.
The biggest problem with casting "Carousel" is finding a Billy Bigelow who not only can sing the difficult material, but can also act.
