Respect how Scott doesn’t require this to be an over-the-top commercial for his company. Just let the experience speak.

It maybe a review of the new Exie - However, being a 60+ year old rider, the best part is watching Scott Nicol ride the TRT trail - inspiring to see Scott’s skills and fitness !

Agree! I just rode Soquel Demo with a 75 yo friend. He schooled me! He would have done another loop; I was done! (I did school him when I was racing 30 years ago, so there's that. But I better do something about this!) But cycling is a great sport you can do forever. Granted, my friend is a genetic freak, but he's a good role model genetic freak!

Yes Brian! One of your best videos ever for me. 71 years young here and ride every day on the Olympic Peninsula, WA. Lots of roots and wet, but my Ripmo AF cuts right through anything with confidence. Never knew bikes could deliver so much fuuuuuun! Thank you so much for sharing a ride with the master himself! Scot Nicol! Mr. Chuck Ibis in person ripping it up in one of this earth's most beautiful locations. Sanity strikes again! Thanks you guys for all the inspiration and dedication to the pure joy of Mountain Biking. Please keep taking care of yourselves you guys, and get Scot a shovel to start digging up at your new digs Brian! heheheh

Yes finally!!! Too bad they are going to be way over priced!!! Now we just need to learn how to not screw over people and charge a ridiculous amount of money for a product that in reality is worth 1/2 of what bike companies charge. It doesn't cost anywhere close to what they charge to make them.....

Yes, Tahoe has such good riding to offer. But it's generally pretty technical, so be prepared for that. (One 8 hour ride I did years ago a friend said, "I don't feel like I've been riding for 8 hours, but being pummeled!)
      Flume Trail
      Tahoe Rim Trail
      Northstar
Hole in the Ground at Donner Pass
      Donner Rim Trail (in progress)
      Downieville
      That would keep you busy!
Then you need to ride in the California Redwoods.
Then head to Utah to blow your mind!
Since you're next door, hit Colorado. They have some hills there!
      Then maybe Bend Oregon.
      Then Idaho.
      Like roots? North Carolina!
So much riding to do. So little money and time!

Beautiful area and nice bike!!! But don't be selfish... multi-use means just that, and only having access on odd days preserves the integrity of the trails, and that helps out all of the volunteers who have to fix our damage. Thanks and be safe!

    • @dudeonbike800
      @dudeonbike800 3 ปีที่แล้ว

Mountain bikers are quickly becoming the largest trail user group in many areas. Yet we're STILL second class citizens. Expect less, get less.
The reason trails suffer isn't the use, but the over use. That so many Bay Area parks still prohibit bikes on single track is beyond absurd. The birth place of the mountain bike is as anti bike as it can get. This is crazy, especially in a democracy.
We should double our trail mileage in many areas to make up for the lack of access. The Bay Area should be ringed with single track trail. It isn't. It is seriously lacking. And with the popularity of high and middle school mountain biking, expect the sport to continue on its growth curve.
Four decades ago, they thought this new sport was a fad. And did "environmental damage." Both proven completely wrong over and over again.
Now that we're a large user group, we should no longer beg and plead for trail access. We should EXPECT it! There's no reason for all the bans other than plain bias based on myth and entrenched interests.

I have a Ripmo V1 and #27/40 Exie. Both bikes are mediums.
My Ripmo is a 31.2 lb build. That’s riding weight with pedals, sealant, tools and cage.
The bike is spec’ed with an AXS XX1 drivetrain and dropper, Hope brakes, Zipp 3zeromoto rims and an Assegai up front and Dissector in the rear
My Exie is a “burlier” build with all the stuff the anniversary model comes with, but I made a tire swap. The front is a 2.4 Dissector, the rear is a Rekon, I have Time XC 8 pedals (12’s are old out) and an Enve bottle cage. With this spec, ready to ride (bike, tires, sealant, pedals and cage), the bike comes in at 24.7 lbs.
There are many places I ride that I wouldn’t take the Exie. The Ripmo is just better with the bigger rocks and roots. But, the vast majority of the East Coast rocks and roots trails I ride are perfect for the Exie. If you have a Ripley, the Exie is likely not needed, but it compliments my Ripmo perfectly.
Things I loved about the Exie relative to the Ripmo.
    - This bike makes more flowy trials more fun. There is a bit more “risk” in the way it feels and I love that. The shorter suspension enhances the sense of speed as I found more connected with the surface. On these trails you realize the bigger Ripmo is blunting the sensations. That makes sense as you want it to blunt the chatter on gnarly trails. But on a lot of trails the Exie is just more fun.
    - The steering is amazing. Possibly because the fork has less slop (travel)? Could also just be in my head.
    - the Exie keeps you on your game. Garbage in, garbage out.
    - The lighter weight is instantly noticeable when you are spinning the bike up to speed. If you ride trails that are tight, winding and cause you you to get back on the gas often, you will love this bike.
    - The bike climbs great. I actually finished some technical climbs better on this than my Ripmo. Likely because I didn’t run out of gas. Really technical stuff would likely be better on my Ripmo, but not long tech. My legs give out :)
    - Change the tires and it feels like a mini trail bike. I smashed through roots and smaller rocks without a thought. To be honest it did take 20 minutes to get used to the smaller bike and trust that it could do the roots and rocks.
    - The Rekon on the rear hated wet roots. The fall and spring might need a better tire (Dissector). It will add wieght, but I don’t race and the stability will be nice.
    Two things I didn’t like:
    - I just prefer AXS to XTR. I’m sure the Shmano fans will tell me about shifting under load etc, but that’s not an issue. The rest of the time I prefer the crisp shift of the AXS.
    - For me the dropper is a disaster. I like that it’s light, but I can’t get it to be reliable possibly need a warranty call. Mine has had a few issues. At first it required too much lever pressure to go down. Then I needed to give it a real butt push for it to go down. Now they have fixed that, but it has some squish in it.
    - I will be putting an AXS dropper on there when they become available.
    - bonus dislike, the lockout. I just don’t need it and it creates so much clutter on the bars :)
Overall I love this bike. If you have a160/145 bike and live in an area with great flow trails, this could be a nice compliment. But it is pricey

Ibis should send you to one of the EWS stops next season in NA to ride with their pros, Wallner, Johansen and Baraona :)
BK goes pro, or MTB journalist. I think your YT-format would work great in a ride and talk with the pros.

Nice video although would have liked to hear more commentary regarding the Exie and how it rides.
