- welcome back! Today we're visiting a tiny bookstore that I find en route to the cottage I've been staying at for the past week - as well as the might-be-haunted-by-slighted-authors book warehouse we found at the same place! My brother and I bravely faced the air inside which seems like it's been poisoned by centuries of rotting book pages and found some books to share with you, I've missed you all and would love to hear what you've been up to or what you're reading! xx

That warehouse is kinda sad to me. No wonder it feels spooky and has bad air, it's like a collective of people's thoughts bound in paper practically left to rot when books should be handled more and not so... abandoned?
The nature in this vlog was gorgeous, I'm a little jealous. Must've been so nice. Anyway, belated happy birthday! This was a nice video to see this morning. Best wishes with the move and unpacking everything.

Yup fr i mean there are many people who love reading books to the point of obsession and would definitely do some sketchy stuff to get those books for free to save bucks especially when the security level of such places is basically non-existent lmao

Every video I watch of yours makes me feel like you are Matilda after being raised by miss Honey 🥺 because you are just so soft spoken and passionate about literature.
I've had the best luck with airing out items like this by putting them out in the hot sun for a long time (like, days and days) - but keep an eye on them, maybe not direct sunlight if fading is an issue.
. Also putting them inside a bag laying on baking soda, which absorbs the smell. Good luck getting them into a readable state.
or into coffee beans :)

I didn’t know that Ontario boasted the smallest bookstore! I’ll add it to my bragging list, but I don’t think I’ll be adding it to my day trips list due to the rotting corpse smell.
I was wondering where it's located. Too bad my daughter's too young to make a trip there yet. Next year!
If/when you come to Scotland you should definitely visit Wigtown in Dumfries and Galloway! It is Scotland's national book town and despite being tiny it's full of second hand bookshops- and it has a book festival too! The nearby town Gatehouse of Fleet also has a brilliant bookshop filled floor to ceiling and a little free museum with a cafe that looks out on the river 😊

My uncle sold the family cottage a few years back and I miss it so much, but this video gave me all the cottage vibes that I've been craving lately. I don't think your cottage is super far from where ours was, so just seeing that clip where you step on to your dock and show the beautiful trees and the sky reflected in the water made me feel like I was back home. I cried a little inside when you pushed that pretty edition of Theodor Fontane's Effi Briest back into the shelf lol, that was one of the best books I've read in high school - definitely pick it up when you have a chance and want to read some historical drama with romance elements!

I hope you had an awesome vacation! I've heard before that sticking a book in the freezer gets rid of some of the smell, but I've never tried it myself before.

I love Agatha Christie! She once went missing from a couple of weeks, and I live in the town that she was found in. We have an annual Crime Writing Festival every year in the hotel she stayed in. Which is a lot of fun 😁

Hello from Romania! ^_^. I love seeing you in a hunt for books. It would be so cool to have these kind of places filled with books in my country.
I have one of those Agatha Christie books in French too! The English versions of that edition are red and just a little taller. I have a shelf full that I found on Facebook marketplace one summer!
I was so surprised when I saw the thumbnail! I've been here with my friend after visiting Carlton 4 years ago... It's a fond memory

To kill any mold on them, put them in freezer bags to keep them dry, then put them in the freezer for a couple of days.

Oh my.. Be careful as breathing mold spores is not good for your health. Plenty of mushroom growers can tell you that after years of working with fungus you don't get more resilient, you get more sensitive to getting ill from the spores.
That place needs a good airing out (including a books outdoors in the sunshine setup). Someone needs to clean it up. If I had found it like that in a visit I'm not sure I would have closed the door again. I'd have left it ajar lol.
Please give your books a thorough wipe down with some ½ diluted methylated spirits, or some other alcohol based product, and a good page airing in the sun with some bicarb dusted between them. Give them some summer heat.
Shame we can't all teleport over there and give the place a decent book do over..

also very minor lil thing but i believe the bohemian pronunciation of ántonia puts the emphasis on the “nee” sound instead of the “toe” so “my an-tuh-NEE-ah” 🤍
