  • In this video, join us on what was supposed to be an epic journey through the Eastern Sierra. With plans to camp, explore, and make a few beef jerky deliveries along the way, we set out with high hopes.
    However, Mother Nature had other plans in store for us. With unexpected snow, fierce winds, and bone-chilling temperatures, we had to make a tough decision. Instead of toughing it out, we opted to head down to Death Valley, where warmer weather and friends awaited us.
    Despite the change of plans, our time in Death Valley turned out to be nothing short of amazing. We caught up with old friends, made new ones, and soaked up the sunshine while exploring the diverse landscapes.
    From our cozy campsite on Hot Creek in the Eastern Sierra to the historic Homestead mining cabins in Death Valley, we'll take you along for the ride and share some of our favorite camping spots.

    Those Death Valley cabins are so cool! Nothing like them anywhere else for the most part. The Death Valley area has a bunch of them. If I can find an open one when I'm down there, I usually just throw down a sleeping pad inside. We did this for years riding Dual Sport motorcycles down there. And most have a working wood stove. Just an FYI: No Federal or State funds are spent on restoring/maintaining these old cabins. 100% Volunteer time and money. If you stay in one, treat it with respect.

      Thanks so much. Yes, I have thought about getting into Wild Game, but I'm not sure there are enough folks that would enjoy it to make it worth the trouble. Everyone loves beef! Well, almost everyone. Thanks for watching and leaving a comment.

    Did you catch any fighter jets dropping into Rainbow/Star Wars Cyn at Father Crowley Point above Panamint? What did you think of Mengel Pass? That first cabin is great for a small group. There is no better Happy Hour view than from "Chair Hill"!! What was the condition of the rock cabin? Two years ago before I left California, I made one last trip to Butte Valley (to scatter one of my dog's ashes on the butte and around our favorite cabin!) and left a bunch of camp gear (cots, sleeping pads, chairs and rat proof food storage containers along with spray bottles of water/bleach to spray on the cabin floors to kill Hantavirus and make the stay a little safer. I did see another recent video from someone and saw some of my donated items still there. Also a PSA, even if a flag is up and the cabin is occupied its OK to roll up and say hi. Sometimes it was timed just right and I discovered the occupants were leaving and I was able to bag the cabin. Too bad you didnt have enough time to climb the butte. Its about 45 minutes going up the West ridge and about 10 minutes coming down the burro path on the South/East ridge. Amazing views from the top. That last cabin is hard to find which is good. Its VERY rustic but out of the way and secluded. I was told about it and still drove past the entrance half a dozen times before finally finding it.

      I don't believe the military flies through Star Wars canyon anymore, due to a deadly crash years ago.

    • @395jnky
      @395jnky  3 หลายเดือนก่อน

      We weren't able to get to that area...I know the jets stopped flying for a bit, but I think they are still running their routes every once in a while. We hope to one day be able to see them fly. Mengel Pass is beautiful...Lots of good intel here. Thanks for sharing with us all and taking the time to leave a comment...Happy Trails
