Currently the only thing I can think of that is striking is to get a better microphone, the rest depends on the format of the content you want to go for!
I honestly enjoyed this video and everything surrounding this odd D1 Dawning. This is actually way more special than whatever our D2 Dawning was this year. Even if it was an accident.
Do better? Dude this is short and super detailed, this is exactly the kind of stuff viewers want but creators don’t make because they can’t shove midroll ads into it. This was 3:40 and had 3:40 worth of information.
Something else interesting to note: The Dawning originally being a January event and the lack of snow strongly suggests to me that The Dawning was originally meant to be Destiny's version of New Years rather than Christmas. Jan 5th 2016 is the first Tuesday after Jan 1st, and the name "The Dawning" has always screamed "the *dawning* of the new year," no? And then when they did SRL instead as a December event, they pivoted to make The Dawning a December event too and thus changed it to be Christmas themed instead. I actually remember when those items were datamined in the API back in January 2016 thinking "oh, The Dawning, that's a *great* name for a New Years event"
The Dawning like all Destiny content has been changed beyond it's original intentions. They then just keep the original name, which is frustrating when they do finally implement a system that is deserving of that original name.
I definitely loved the deep dive into the game files and seeing what was planned and what wasn't. Your theory is as good as any other (and certainly faaaar more reasonable and grounded than those shouting "D1 REMASTER CONFIRMED!!!" for cheap clicks). Thanks for the visuals and backstory!
@@kingcurmudgeon8685That's a bit of an over exaggeration. You may not like D2, and that's understandable, however, to insinuate it's not playable, is complete and utter nonsense.
it's likely that they planned to push this out and scrapped it, then instead of deleting the files they just put the timer to start the event to 9999 days or something OR, someone was doing server side maintenance for D2 and when flicking a lever some piece of ancient code kicked itself into gear and launched the event
its very interesting, I hadnt realized these dawning decorations havent been used before. and your theory on scheduling sounds correct, im sure bungie will mention it in a twid sometime later
The way the file says 'fol' makes me think the event's previously workshopped name would've been something generic like 'Festival of Lights', which makes sense considering the emphasis on the lighting architecture.
@@jonahbrown5669 Lol I've heard countless people say this. Explain this to me: Why do I ACTIVELY CHOOSE to play D1 over D2? Just nostalgia? I don't think that would keep me engaged over D2 if D2 were truly a game that I enjoyed more.

I had thought that too at one point but there does appear to be light snow on the ground. Not piles of it like in the Rise of Iron Dawning but a little bit in the grass and on the ground near the vaults. It also has the same lanterns that appear in Dawning in the back area where Saladin sets up. So I do believe it was a Winter thing.

Your theory sounds spot on. The dev's would of been on Xmas Break so im sure they would of popped in the office...added 9 years (prob randomly selected) and left the office planning to remove it once they were back off break.
Never thought about it before in my days of playing d2. But now that I've long since quitted, i realised how shtty was the move to cut all event content from d1. Trials, yearly events, ib and etc. Bunge really wanted to push playerbase to d2.
I mean, yeah. D1 and D2 both launched as full-price games, and giving the playerbase reasons to stay in D1 would hurt the sales of D2. If someone would rather play D1 Festival of the Lost, then that's one more person who isn't playing D2 Festival of the Lost and isn't buying the new Eververse offerings. I don't have numbers, but I seriously doubt D1 makes even a tiny fraction of what D2 does in microtransaction sales, partly because the Eververse inventory hasn't updated in close to 8 years and anyone who wants those cosmetics probably already has them. On a business level, I kind of understand the logic. As a player, I hate it. I really wish I could replay D1 Festival of the Lost just for the nostalgia.
It was likely easier to just change the date to some far of time that nobody was thinking about rather than go through the effort to remove it from the game.
Ok but if that event was planned in early 2016 and then postponed by 9 years, how come it's not live on the ps3/Xbox 360 Version of the game? They split the versions in September 2016 so in theory the event should be live on old gen too, which it isn't
Glad you pointed this out! My assumption is that it had something to do with how the legacy console versions didn't have any of the timed events past Rise of Iron's release (like no Festival of the Lost in Fall 2016 or no more Iron Banner events from September 2016 onward). It's possible when they cut support for those they had caught the city_tower_fol event being scheduled to be in 2025 and fixed it. But when D2 released they must've somehow missed the same thing when they had to turn off the events for D1 on next gen. It is a tricky thing to think about though and I wish I knew 100% what caused this.

If this was programmed to start with a date then it’s possible that there isn’t a end date assigned to this, so this may be the D1 tower from now on, or perhaps this was meant to go live in celebration anniversary of the 10 years of destiny, and they had this as a rough sketch that was in file that was forgotten about and never removed, it’s common for programers to code a dated start condition further down the road to have it in file ready to launch then have to remove and patch the event into the game every time you want to start one, usually there isn’t a “Switch” they flip for a in game event to start and stop, it’s coded into the game, and the games tied to a server that has its own personal in game clock that it designated as its own time schedule, and uses this to start and stop coded timed conditions, which is the start and stop of events, so this date has been in backlog untill 2025 becuase most likely a dev had this set as a reserve event to launch but with D2 coming out and abandoning D1 altogether the code didn’t carry over into the second game, and was left behind.
Concerning your theory that this was due to someone rescheduling the event to a later date with the intent to remove it before that happened, very likely (if true) the person responsible was either fired or downsized and no one else even knew about it. Seems logical, even likely.

I assume they caught the scheduled time for legacy consoles when they cut those off. But forgot when D2 came out to check the same thing for next gen consoles.
@ yeee 360/ps3's final update was the April update, unfortunately never received rise of iron so it's still stuck in The Taken King. Xbox one/ps4 and up are on their own non-cross play servers :o
Destiny came out 2014. Bungie legally had to make Destiny last 10 years (at the time). A developer probably had the decorations set to go live the first day of 2025, the year that would contain the end of their 10 year plan. A developer who, due to a change of plans, shifted the date to the "end" year of destiny (not thinking about how the beginning of 2025 wasn't actually the "end"), as it was the easiest solution to get rid of it (similar to how the forges were blocked off instead of removed) and it wouldn't matter if it apeared then (or maybe it was always set to a far date even during creation as a unfinished forgotten project). It happening on the 5th is probably due to the day shifting of new years. That, along with leap years, would change January 1st to the 5th if they had set it 10 years after 2014. I'm up late and really tired so this probably makes no sense 🙃
I hadn't thought of that possibility but that makes sense too! This version of The Dawning did seem to be a New Years thing instead of a Christmas thing so I can totally see that being the case.
The internal names very rarely translate into the final shipping name. Although it is hard for me to tell what exactly "fol" could've stood for. Either way, there was snow scattered around the Tower so I assume "fol" was meant for Winter.
Destiny one is the true destiny experience! Also guys at this point you need to realize back in 2017 people were right destiny 2 is just destiny 1 2.0 it's not a sequel. A sequel would apply a different story different characters a different timeline not a repetitive repeat of the original. The only reason people likr destiny one compared to D2 is because destiny 1 is more balanced
If a developer was able to push the date out that far, then it is proof they could actually do this for all the events, even if they didn't make all the quest things be active for it.
For real nostalgia you gotta go to ps3, I don't even think Roi was available for the ps3 edition because I think they discontinued that server (or something along those lines) around that time

@ yeee 360/ps3's final update was the April update, unfortunately never received rise of iron so it's still stuck in The Taken King. Xbox one/ps4 and up are on their own non-cross play servers :o
I agree, someone rescheduled the date to 2025,
Oh, it was on my birfday
This version of The Dawning did seem to be a New Years thing instead of a Christmas thing so I can totally see that being the case.
that tower is so much better than d2s
D1 got a better update than D2 over the last few months, crazy.
fol = festival of lost though?
The internal names very rarely translate into the final shipping name. Although it is hard for me to tell what exactly "fol" could've stood for.
Either way, there was snow scattered around the Tower so I assume "fol" was meant for Winter.
great vid
tangentially related they should just scrap destiny 2 and port d1 to pc
In an alternate reality, bungie gives up maintaining d2 after running it into the ground and d1 is nade the new prinary game
love it
I honestly would love just to see bungie leave the tower as is in this perpetual dawning time
imagine they let people play srl again
outside private matches *
Destiny one is the true destiny experience! Also guys at this point you need to realize back in 2017 people were right destiny 2 is just destiny 1 2.0 it's not a sequel. A sequel would apply a different story different characters a different timeline not a repetitive repeat of the original. The only reason people likr destiny one compared to D2 is because destiny 1 is more balanced
Aztecross gang!!! like and sub this dude!
If a developer was able to push the date out that far, then it is proof they could actually do this for all the events, even if they didn't make all the quest things be active for it.
For real nostalgia you gotta go to ps3, I don't even think Roi was available for the ps3 edition because I think they discontinued that server (or something along those lines) around that time
I have some cool vids on this game
Still waiting for overload barrier subjectors
Are you drunk? What are you even talking about?
The overload barrier subjectors@@Cony394
🤣
They updating the wrong game lmao
I'd love to see D1 brought into D2 entirely. The D1 strikes were just so much more engaging and fun. D2 strikes just felt so empty by comparison
give me D1 remastered that game was so much better than D2 jeez
Destiny 2 so dead Destiny 1 is getting the updates instead I can't lmao
Well, well, well. They added the D1 Tower to D2. Too little, too late.
...
WHAT DO YOU MEAN THIS IS D1?!?!
