I think that your advice on relaxing, putting 100 miles on the new car, and really evaluating things before moving forward on ppf etc is wise and makes perfect sense. Thanks.
Make sure to give Allen over at Xtreme Edge a Call! Did you guys know the differences between Vinyl and PPF?? Alot of you guys also want to know the cost! The last time I did the cost in my previous PPF video, years later people would ask for that same price lol. But for reference, for my colored PPF it is MORE expensive than xpel stealth and ultimate. For the X I paid around 8-9k for the colored PPF!
Dude where is a referral code so I get a discount lol. I’m getting my Tesla tomorrow and need to make appointment with these guys and I will say Chris sent me
PPF costs have gone up to a level where it is hard to justify now, especially if you plan on owning the vehicle for only 2-3 years. When it used to be $2-3k for a full front and ceramic coating, it made sense. But not at $4-6k+ for the package these days. This business has quickly turned the corner into a vanity money pit with installers in a race to see who can charge the most and get away with it.
It’s not a “who can charge the most and get away with it” The costs not only to apply the film but the film itself has gone up tremendously and although it doesn’t make sense for you that doesn’t mean installers are racing to the top. We are at around 2k for a full front with edges wrapped. But the coating itself you have to break it down per year and if your ceramic coating costs less per year than waxing your vehicle… you are still good.
So glad I watched this! I was just about to make an appointment to do vinyl. I live in the OC so I will go talk to Allen. I wish you would have talked a little about the price of the packages etc. Thanks for all the info!
I learned so much. And that color is so awesome. That’s pretty much exactly what I want. I originally was looking into vinyl but now might do colored ppf. Thanks for sharing!!!
The colour along with the Carbon Fibre accents look amazing. It truly does. I was not aware that you could change the colour via a PPF / Vinyl wrap on a non white Tesla. I thought that you could only do this on a white colour car. I learned plenty today. Thank you for sharing.
I bought a Model Y 1 month ago and did PPF full front + pillars for $2300. I will do ceramic coating next month for $1700. I'm doing it because: 1) vanity 2) protect the front during long drives 3) I usually own a car 10+ years. I've no illusions I may have to take PPF off in 10+ years...but at least the original paint should be intact, requiring less expansive repainting. It is expensive. Rip off really. Don't do it if you will own < 5 years. I have frontal PPF on my BWM x3 and it's done a great job. Prior I had a Mercedes ML that suffered serious cosmetic damage driving i5 in CA due to bugs and pebbles. Emphasis on term cosmetic. Again, this is ultimately an exercise in vanity. Don't break the bank on it. Lastly, I've only owned 4 cars in my life. My 1 splurge, but within fiscal responsibility. All the best with your cars...my favorite and really only toys in life.
Nice! if I want to change my BMW 3 series "Sunset Orange" colour to something more of BMW's natural OEM blue finishes. Which type of wrapping material would you recommend? -- new fan from Malaysia.
at 5:47, does anyone know what the specific color is on the left? it almost looks ceramic to me. i’ve seen it around on some new nissan rogues but idk the name
Got my MYLR wrapped in full with KAVACA Ceramic Coated Paint Protection Film at "The Works Automotive Detailing" in Boulder, CO for $4500! Great deal I think for a full body! Can definitely recommend them!
Color Change PPF is here and only getting better. Vinyl has its place for say show cars and those not doing a lot of road time but besides that PPF all the way!
Great video, thanks! Is there any reason (other than inflation) not to wait a year or so to add full body PPF? I am thinking that I can enjoy a color refresh down the road, and doing so later would cover up any damage that may occur in the interim. Would it be an issue to put PPF over minor damage?
Hey Chris so I just went to a shop and did the same thing but there are a lot of corners that have the original paint exposed. They tried telling me that since it’s PPF and not vinyl, they are not able to completely wrap the whole thing. Is some of the original paint exposed for you? Or was that shop able to fully cover the car including the corners?
yeah the corners near the door hinges can't be wrapped and they can't wrap the whole bumper due to the trim because if they do the trim won't have any space and it will ruin the wrap since it's so thick. But for me it's not noticeable at all. ALso helps my paint is black
It’s hard to believe that I watched this long video without a single reference to COST. Thanks to you guys in the comment section for that information.
Chris, Very good video. How much did it cost you for your car? Understand price may change from time to time but what you paid is what I'd like to know. Thank you!
How much to wrap a Tesla model Y? What is the name is the shop and where in Orange County? How long does it take? I am planning to go to L.A. at the end of March. Thank you for the video.
I think for the average person ppf is way too expensive. I know Chris mentioned car keying, but I don't know how many people that happens to. Most people I think have it installed to prevent rock chips to front of car. I always say it is cheaper to have the bumper repainted should you get a lot of chips and it would be way cheaper than ppf. When you sell your car, you won't get significantly less with a few rock chips - it's expected. Car looks beautiful Chris - great color choice.
So if I understand it correctly, among the other differences, PPF should last for the life of the car, whereas vinyl will only last a few years? In that case, I've learned something new and valuable! Thanks, Chris!
Depending on the product, warranty is for 7-12 years which is usually the life of the car. I would recommend looking up the dif brands of PPF and see their warranty periods.
@@turkey1337 I guess my concern would be how difficult it is to remove and what kind of shape the paint would be in, underneath. Also, if I have a few tiny chips in the paint, will they be obvious under a color PPF? Or would they have to be filled prior to the application?
@@tesladura3085 you would have to ask the installer if removal is included or extra but there’s video on yt on how to do that. I actually asked my installer that same question and they said its preferred to get the chips repaired and painted but they can still apply if that’s your preference.
Hi Chris, why did you go with Xtreme Edge Auto to do your PPF? There are a couple places I found are a bit cheaper ($1K less) for a whole body TY stealth. Was Xtreme work the price to pay more?
