Great video. I own some vintage stuff, because I am in my sixties and bought the guitars when I was a kid! They are meaningful to me because the aging is real and I know how they got the way they are. I wouldn’t care to own new “aged” guitars. This was an enjoyable video, just like all your work. A wealthy dude who already has the Strat. The V is cool but having played one in my youth I have no desire for another one. They are oddball guitars. Guess that’s what makes them appealing to some people. 😀
Hendrix was all about collaboration, sharing and love. A lot of companies have made hundred of thousands of dollars associating his name with product placement. Image rights, naming rights… its shameful. Im huge Gibson fan, but this is really a step backwards for any integrity with the instrument and the brand.
Man that V sounded so good. The SG also sounded really good and looked super accurate. I personally like these and think it’s cool that another company besides Fender put out Hendrix models of guitars that Hendrix actually played. Maybe Zemaitis will be next and then the Acoustic Black Widow? 🤘🏼 ✌🏼
Paul- great review, but I think we all know how beautiful you can make any decent guitar sing. Haha. The fuzz was intoxicating! Sending peace & love from Missouri, USA -Todd
When I heard of the announcement of these two iconic guitars being released in such limited quantity and exclusive price, my heart was both uplifted and broken at the same time!! I am a huge Hendrix fan and it always bugged me that the Flying V that was released in the 90s was only right handed but now they corrected this.... at a insane price!! The thought did run through my head of “yeah I could get $20k together and buy both guitars!!” 😂😂😂 It would be awesome if Gibson did a more affordable line with these models (especially the V!). Not sure if that will happen but who knows? Awesome licks Paul!!! You really do justice to both of those guitars!!!🎸🎸🎸🙏🏾👍🏾
A good setup goes a long way.. and for 10K I would expect a marvel, hell maybe even a guarantee for servicing for the next 5 years. I doubt that Jimi had such one back then ;) Fingers, a decent guitar(, some effects) and a very good amplifier is the key. Just like you showed. Great work... keep it up!
Love it Paul! Playing blues with fingers (no pick) through a warm, fuzzed-out tone (especially if you have a whammy bar) is one of my favorite things to hear.
This is the guitar equivalent of a Top Gear episode, getting to check out stuff so absurdly expensive that the people who would buy it don't need to watch it.
Great video paul. The way you played the comparison of the guitar tones without interrupting was excellent and i like the way that you convey your opinion without being opinionated. Excellent video and also my two all time favourite models. Excellent thank you.
It's nice to hear Paul channel his inner Jimi and just rip it up a few times in this video. Love his usual clean and tasty sound, but it was nice to hear him just tear through some blues licks 🤟🤟🤟
They will put out "cheaper" models to entice the players but will be pretty much the standard fare but for twice the price. But it will have a Hendrix truss rod cover and some case candy. Can't get on board the Gibson hype train... Now your playing and tone are superb Mr Davids! Keep chasing after it!
Before they put it behind glass, I was allowed to hold the Flying V at the London Hard Rock, and all the energy that went through it into me. I felt honored! (I have the photo to prove it)
From September 1967 Jimi switched between a Strat and his self-painted Flying V when playing live (there are plenty of photos). The SG came later, in October 1968, and lastly the left-handed special order Flying V in May 1970.
Paul: "only 125 are made, that doesn't make them rich" ... Me doing some calculations.. 125x10k.. ehhhmm if this doesn't make them rich.. what will? 1 million, 250k for a few guitars.
I don 't really care how good they sound. It is a rip off. Selling Jimi Hendrix "signature" models with models that he played once or twice, probably only because he couldn't get his hands on a decent strat at short notice, is a dodgy business to say the least. And the price tag is ridiculous.
What, are you kidding? That was a top notch stencil job on that case to say the least. Not to mention that extra rare Hendrix truss rod cover. Hot stuff, I tell ya. Definitely raises the price of a standard reissue guitar to 10K. Totally worth it. Ordering one now.
Nice breakdown of these 2 "unobtainium" gems. Love the 'zen' enviro and the Chris Buck influenced fingerstyle demos. So, you won me over to join the "drooling" appreciation of next levels of guitar geekery.
I guess when Jimi had 'em they didn't have dings all over them. I still think that dings are a bit fake. You'd be wrong that they are unaffordable, though. There are so many tech people, bankers and lawyers about these days. The rich get richer, the poor get poorer. They could have sold out a double run of those guitars for the same money. But things like this are made for two reasons: 1. A great PR story - as evidenced by this video. 2. They recalibrate consumer expectations of price. At $10k a pop, that starts to make $5k Gibsons look like a snip. It's a very old trick in luxury goods marketing. You have not been charged for this marketing lesson.
Epiphone Inspired By Gibson ‘61 SG’s are pretty damned good. I tried one side-by-side with the direct Gibson equivalent in a shop. The veneer on the Epi was mildly disappointing but tonally there’s not much difference. Certainly not enough (for me) to justify the Gibson being nearly four times the price. As for signature models or Gibson relic guitars, I was asking about these in Sixty Sixty Sounds in London, who specialise in them. The antique crackle effect on the glaze is apparently hand done by a guy with a scalpel and the fogging on the metal work again hand done by treating them with acid and various other chemicals. This explains the price tag. I also asked who buys them and the answer, sadly, was ‘mainly very rich Russians’ I suspect they get hung on a wall and never played or just kept in the cases in a bank vault as an ‘investment’ like vintage wine that never gets drunk.
Hello Paul. Great video! I would have preferred for Gibson to release a SG as homage to Sister Rosseta Tharpe, instead. She definitely deserves the recognition and more people should know about her.
Seems like nobody is really “feeling” the fact that they are supposed to be Jimi signature models... probably bc they’re such small footnotes on a monster career. Kinda like selling Washington Wizards Michael Jordan memorabilia... Jordan IS the Bulls and Jimi IS the Strat... AND you make it cost a zillion $$?? Sometimes bad ideas are just bad ideas and there’s no salvaging them 🤷🏼♂️
You don't think they could be improved with a gaudy robot tuner on the back of the headstock? Or maybe if they charged another $3,000 to stencil Jimi's name on the case along with Band of Gypsys? Put some pubes in a baggie and sell it as Jimi's hair with the case candy for an additional $2,000? I disagree, I'm seeing some real value here.
I have an Epiphone ‘61 Les Paul/SG Custom special-edition in white-white & love it. I can only imagine how the Gibson plays. Amazing tone and great playing. The old-school term-bars aren’t for divebombing. Tasteful use won’t cause tuning-issues, as you demonstrated. I was initially scared of this trem ... but I don’t divebomb, and no tuning issues. I’m OCD about tuning too.

Great video. I own some vintage stuff, because I am in my sixties and bought the guitars when I was a kid! They are meaningful to me because the aging is real and I know how they got the way they are. I wouldn’t care to own new “aged” guitars. This was an enjoyable video, just like all your work. Thanks again!
I can't imagine JH spending 10k on a guitar to take to a gig.
Your les Paul sounds the best in my ears 😊
To be honest who would buy this over jimi’s signature strat!?
Yeah but ngl that SG does look sick tho
Someone who has that one already? I mean I don't think someone would buy this as their first guitar would they? It's 10k
A wealthy dude who already has the Strat. The V is cool but having played one in my youth I have no desire for another one. They are oddball guitars. Guess that’s what makes them appealing to some people. 😀
If it wasn’t so expensive I’d absolutely buy them they’re both fucking beautiful

Love seeing the comments from other yt guitarists here. Such a great community we’ve got going on now
Hendrix was all about collaboration, sharing and love.
A lot of companies have made hundred of thousands of dollars
associating his name with product placement.
Image rights, naming rights… its shameful.
Im huge Gibson fan, but this is really a step backwards for any integrity
with the instrument and the brand.
Paul your les paul is just mind blowing... forgot the signature series in between. totally in awe with it.
Man that V sounded so good. The SG also sounded really good and looked super accurate. I personally like these and think it’s cool that another company besides Fender put out Hendrix models of guitars that Hendrix actually played. Maybe Zemaitis will be next and then the Acoustic Black Widow? 🤘🏼 ✌🏼
Paul David’s and Tom Bukovac: Best of the Best Thanks
Paul's wife: Finally got kid to bed...

Hahaha 😂
Lightning in the video is sooooooo magic btw
Love your approach to the content dud
These will end up in the hands of people who probably can't even play
OMG!! That Transition tho 1:29. Great Vid Paul, as always. Love you!!
Paul- great review, but I think we all know how beautiful you can make any decent guitar sing. Haha. The fuzz was intoxicating!
Sending peace & love from Missouri, USA -Todd
The riff in the beginning is super dope!! YASS, need to learn it right now and annoy all the guitar stores with playing it over and over
😂
leave it to Gibson to make a 10k Hendrix SG. I cant help but laugh at these
The reading from the pamphlet got me on the second time around. Great stuff Paul. 🤣 🎸
"They're the most expensive things in this room by a long shot"
Paul. You're in the room. You are worth way more than these things.

Pretty much.
But without the uncontrollable desire to punch the living daylights out of the presenter/s..? :)
@@CurrieNerd only a Neanderthal would want to punch this Paul David’s guy. Gibson on the other hand...
@@lomoholga I meant the Top Gear presenters ;)
@@CurrieNerd are you talking Clarkson, Hammond and May?
My sweet lord, Paul. That intro was amazing
i dunno man, i'd sure be willing to pay $10K for that V.... just so pure...
Great video paul. The way you played the comparison of the guitar tones without interrupting was excellent and i like the way that you convey your opinion without being opinionated. Excellent video and also my two all time favourite models. Excellent thank you.
Paul if you ever see this comment.
I want to Thankyou for inspiring me to make my first guitar video.🤟
It's nice to hear Paul channel his inner Jimi and just rip it up a few times in this video. Love his usual clean and tasty sound, but it was nice to hear him just tear through some blues licks 🤟🤟🤟
They will put out "cheaper" models to entice the players but will be pretty much the standard fare but for twice the price. But it will have a Hendrix truss rod cover and some case candy. Can't get on board the Gibson hype train... Now your playing and tone are superb Mr Davids! Keep chasing after it!
That fuzz tone was insane . Great job
I think Gibson is marketing those guiters to collectors and collectors whom happen to play guitar. Not the everyday players of the instrument.
@LightSoundGeometry ...to 125 people that probably just play power chords. LOL!
I really agree with Paul and will love to see a production line of these, more affordable but still high end product and please with no aging at all!
Before they put it behind glass, I was allowed to hold the Flying V at the London Hard Rock, and all the energy that went through it into me. I felt honored! (I have the photo to prove it)
Send the photo
Wow just wow... That intro was fucking amazing Paul.... What a great guitar player you are!
So if anyone has an extra of the lefty v that they just don’t want, I’ll gladly take it
Awesome video. Your content is top notch, your playing is buttery smooth and your editing does t go unnoticed.
I thought I clicked on a movie for a sec when I saw the intro 😭

Your playing skills made it even more beautiful.
I'm waiting 'til Harley Benton make a flying V.
They already make V's
Didn’t Hendrix pretty much rely on his Fender Strat????
From September 1967 Jimi switched between a Strat and his self-painted Flying V when playing live (there are plenty of photos). The SG came later, in October 1968, and lastly the left-handed special order Flying V in May 1970.
Paul: "only 125 are made, that doesn't make them rich" ... Me doing some calculations.. 125x10k.. ehhhmm if this doesn't make them rich.. what will? 1 million, 250k for a few guitars.
very nice demostration and plsying- thank you. enjoyed your video.
@@drewdunn2066 Me too. I wonder if it will fit in the back of my Lamborghini.
You brought Hendrix along with you in your playing, thanks Paul
I already know I’ll never be able to afford them :(
I could "afford" one, but it would require that I live in my car for a year or two.
But things like this are made for two reasons:
1. A great PR story - as evidenced by this video.
2. They recalibrate consumer expectations of price. At $10k a pop, that starts to make $5k Gibsons look like a snip. It's a very old trick in luxury goods marketing.
You have not been charged for this marketing lesson.
Your conclusion at the end was spot on my friend ..!
What is the song starting at 8:24? I would love to learn to play that myself!

Yes, we need more affordable artist Gibsons. Paul tell Gibson they need to make affordable fool SGs
Yeahhhh Clapton’s SG in Cream 🤘🤘
Hello Paul. Great video!
I would have preferred for Gibson to release a SG as homage to Sister Rosseta Tharpe, instead. She definitely deserves the recognition and more people should know about her.
Most of these guitars will end up being purchased by collectors looking for an investment and never get played.
your editing is great! Always enjoy your videos and they have such a professional feel while remaining personal

Dude that 1:28 transition was so cool !!!
What sogn is that at 8:22?
digging the V tone! feels slightly darker and rounder
