Ford Fiesta tdci won’t start, crank sensor

- This 2006 Ford Firsta 1.4 tdci failed to start. Engine turned over but it wouldn’t fire. Code reader pointed me to the crank sensor. Also when looking at the live data the engine speed stayed at zero even when turning the engine over. Fairly easy fix in the end. Also don’t forget to clean the back of the pully wheel.
You don't have mate to remove anything!!crankshaft sensor is easy to remove without removing tyre ecc..but anyway thanks for the info
Hi. I have the Bantam bakkie with the same engine. It won't start either, but does start with CRC and dies after it runs out. The code reader can't pick up any codes and diesel is going thru as I loosened the injector pipe and it does get fuel. Where is the diesel pickup censor? Is it the small one connected on the plastic pipes?
This was exactly what I was looking for after searching 100s of TH-cam videos and googling. My 2014 Ford Figo 1.4 Diesel TDCI Titanium has starting problems and one of the so called self motor expert told me that the Bendix was bad. The guy repaired it and installed the self motor. But after this also the engine won't start. The flywheel was not fully engaged and it could not rotate. May be i will try the same in my car as well. One question, you unplugged the power socket near the flywheel and still it started. What does that power plug used for?? Thanks for the nice Video.
I plugged it back before I started it.
The plug near the flywheel is for the crank sensor
Where is the camshaft sensor in a 1.25 zeroed petrol?
I change my timing belt. After change Tha timing belt my car not starting and show me camshaft and crankshaft sensor not working properly. Pls can u tell me what is possible
Maybe you haven’t got the timing right.
Thanks
Çool...same problem...I'll have to get a ñew one tomorrow
the location of the preheating relay please ?
Ford fiesta 1.4 tdci 2008
In the diesel filter where it gets the plug. Glow plug relay is the large one with that pullout clamp.
I have changed sensor three times but still getting P0366 periodically (every 5 or 25 days). What could be the problem? Car wont start when it happens.
Maybe the wiring is damaged. Or partially damaged.
@@pdunleavy1982 Can it be checked just by measuring voltage on the connector?
@@wikinoa you can try that. Or just give a good visual inspection.
Hi! It's been a while since this vid was posted but still going to ask anyway. I got the same engine 1.4 tdci, 2004 model. Engine works, rpm picks up nicely when stationary but when it idles for a couple minutes (very low chance of it happening) or when I put it in gear and try to move engine dies, getting a P0337 code when I check via obd. How can I make sure it is the sensor causing this issue? I'm in a very small town with not very good mechanics around so I have to diagnose and fix this myself sadly. Any help would be appreciated
Not sure how to confirm. Maybe see if you can see the live data from the crank sensor. Check the wiring as well.
@@pdunleavy1982 can't check the live data because of the cheap obd reader, only shows me the crank speed but I managed to get a somewhat of an interesting reaction from it. Idle rpm dropped to around 500 and than back to 750 just before engine died with dashboard showing normal idle and when starting the engine rpm jumps to 1000-1100 even though the sound of the engine and dashboard indicates normal idle rpm? From what I can see the wiring looks fine for its age, no damage or anything. Ordered the sensor and going to replace it tomorrow, will post the results. I hope I can replace it without getting the pulley off, don't have tools for that 😬
Changed the crank sensor, was a bit hard but managed to pull it off without getting the pulley out. Sadly replacing the sensor didn't fixed my problem and p0337 code still remains
@@Eren_Sarp is the wiring definitely ok?
@@pdunleavy1982 got the car towed to an electrician, they said pcm signal was under the threshold and could range from a bad connector to a bad pcm. Wiring and the connector looked fine while I was replacing the sensor, maybe I missed a part? I hope they could tell me what the real problem is today, otherwise I will be stuck in this town for the next 2 weeks because of a national holiday...
i have a power loss problem, with an indicator light (exclamation mark). I changed the diesel filter, air filter, spark plugs and I also changed a brown relay located in a black box behind the battery, but the problem is still present.
I have been looking for the location of the preheating relay for two days without success. do you have an idea ?
thank you in advance
Is it a total loss of power?
It could be a faulty crank sensor. Or a faulty injector. I don’t think it will be the pre hear relay

Thank for your reply.
I have a ford fiesta 1.4 tdci 2008 MK5
the engine does not exceed 2000 rpm.
The engine has switched to safety mode.
error p0380.
The reference of the relay i am looking for : 3m5t12a343aa
@@achrafjdidi8866 glow plugs mate, four glow plugs in the rear of the engine, take off the air box and use an inspection mirror.
There’s only a few things that cause the car to go into limp mode: faulty injectors (connectors/wire harness), glow plugs (connectors/wire harness) and gearbox/sensor (connectors/wire harness). These three things are all connected via the same wiring loom.
Is possible to change this sensor without take off the wheel (pulley) and belt??
I don’t think so. You need to pull the plastic casing back to get it out. But, I could always be wrong.
@@pdunleavy1982 Thanks ,i think this sensor make some times stalls the engine ,today i try to remove and control the internal resistance.,idle rpm are to not regular 750 rpm and sometimes drop to 710 rpm
@@pdunleavy1982 I opening yesterday the sensor ,i measured with multimeter amd i found between pin 1 and 3 a high resistance about 11 megaohms.I think is not normal i will change it
Did it solve?,@@MihaSun
Hi. So what was the initial problem, did it try to turn over or just nothing at all? My 1.6TDCi won’t try to turn over but all lights on dash, radio, lights etc work
Mine was turning over but not starting. Check all your fuses first. Make sure it’s not the immobiliser. Check there’s enough power in battery first.
My car has crank non start same issue but no fault codes have you any ideas - I’ve changed fuel filter pain to bleed , cleaned fuel tank Thanks mate for the video what power gun do you use to take off crank pulley I need to buy one - I always lock flywheel to get pulley bolt off but is a faff . Cheers
It doesn’t throw up a fault code. It just doesn’t give the correct reading. You need to look at the live data on a code reader. When turning over the engine you should see a pulse. If it’s a flat line it’s not picking up anything.
Hi, how did you understand where the problem was, thanks.
I had this problem before. Also, if you have a code reader that can give you live data from the crank sensor.
@@pdunleavy1982 thank you.
Code P0340
?
My fiesta doesnt start after swappjng the Belt so this might be the problem
The belt shouldn’t effect it. Check that you have damaged the wires to the sensor.
Or are you on about the Cambelt?
dont think the belt or pulley needs to come off for that
I’m pretty sure it does.
But if you can do it without. Let me know
Yes dont need to remove belt and pulley! Done it without removing
Quel sensore si sostituisce anche senza smontare la puleggia smorzatore.
@@michelemangialardi1980 can you comment in English?
The crank sensor will come off without doing any of that !!!!
It might well do.
I tried but it didn’t seem to have enough room. But you could well be right.
What sort of joke, takes the parts off before starting to video 😴😴😴
Figuring it out as I went along. Can’t film and work at the same time. I think it’s all explained pretty well.
