Canning Stock Route 2022 - Salt lake, a bunch of names, a massive crater, and the wrong Halls Creek

- Backtracking a little to check out the Honeycombed Bluff to see some rock art, we continue on down the Canning. We find out who perhaps shouldn't have "bought a jeep", see how Well 46 didn't stay restored, check out the who's who on the side of Godfrey Tank, find a new strategy for dealing with flying insects, and navigate around a fence in the way of Well 51.
Then we divert from the CSR into the Paruku IPA - visiting some amazing campsites, before coming to the end of the CSR track in Billiluna, continuing up the Tanami to the Wolfe Creek Crater (more famous for a movie shot in South Australia, interspersed with stock footage of the crater), and then reach Halls Creek. But I'll tell you why it's the wrong Halls Creek - and show you the right one.
This isn't the end of the adventure though - we're well ahead of schedule and have just over two weeks to get back home across half of Australia. It's a big country, so stay tuned to see what we get up to next...
Haven't seen the full series? Start from the beginning here: • Yes we Can(ning)! - We...
Really enjoyed the series. Well done on all aspects. Looking forward to binge watching the rest 👍
Thanks for that. You've got a couple more to watch of our long trip home in this series alone - hope you enjoy them!
Loved this series about the CSR! Thanks! (and great soundtrack btw!). Cheers!
Thanks for your comment and glad you like it!
Thanks for the great upload , can you tell me fuel consumtion on the ranger and how much he carried . Thanks ever so much
that WAS a bloody big spider, jeez
Yep, and I'm not a fan of them!
Woah! It took me a bit of scrolling, but eventually spotted it at 6:20!
In earlier videos I was wondering why you were conscientious with the spinifex. I thought "it's just grass, surely no issue for the steel that a Landcruiser is built with". But now I get it - spinifex fires. Makes sense!
Yeah, it's not going to break the vehicle mechanically, but if it ignites, it certainly will thermally!
Hi Boys, really enjoying your trip, knowing I'll never get there, so THANK YOU. My father served in the navy during WWII, amoung so of the "artifacts" he left behind is a double edge knife with a spiky knuckle duster handle ( yeah, very nasty bit of kit). The handle has moulded into it the - D, arrow facing up, D - that R Ross has under his name on the rock wall at 5:46. I've never been game enough to have knife appraised due to it's intimidating presents, so I have no idea what it means either, but maybe someone watching your video may?
Thanks for the comment - but never say never - I read ExplorOz a long time ago, and the talk about the CSR seemed pretty crazy at the time - like someone planning a mountaineering expedition on Everest. Little did I know I'd end up doing it...
Also, if anyone does know the significance of that marking on the knife, please leave a comment. I'm sure we've got someone around here that knows...
Whats that running on the tablet at 18:50 where you mentioned you had phone signal?
It's a custom touchscreen controller I've written to control all the radio gear in the car: github.com/gm-stack/radioconsole - it's running on a Raspberry Pi 4 with the official Pi Touchscreen. At some point I'll get it better documented (and push all the changes I've got sitting on the device :| )
looks like the footage went tits up at twin heads, how unfortunate :(
The Wolfe Creek crater drone footage was sweet too.
It wasn't the breast pun, but it'll do!
