I just bought a brand new M3 manual. Hmmm. Part of the decision, or at least in the back of my mind I was thinking they might do this and the manual would probably keep it's residual or maybe even appreciate I don't know.

@@heiden2413 Fair enough. 90s were a great time for car enthusiasts :). I heard good things about Porsche manuals from a friend who test drove one recently. Thing is they are rather pricey compared to something like the M3/M2.
No one wants that electric trash. Every other manufacturer is reevaluating the choice to go electric. The market DOES NOT want these cars. I hope they figure out a way to get around these EU mandates.

exactly, I look at kids with Tesla model performances and plaids and go, eh your car could be 7 sec 1/4 and still wouldn't even own one. There's something about a car making sound and having gear changes and people to turn their heads at it. I rather a slow e39 540i for example over a plaid, a plaid is just a fast appliance lol and they lose value so fast LOL

Doubtful. MAYBE if it's stored for years with a desirable/rare spec. Look at the challenger/charger, the V8 is dead, but there's still new ones sitting at dealers. The last few limited edtions have already depreciated heavily, instead of immediately going up like everyone thought.

Well, this confirms the dire state of affairs of the German motor vehicle industry. The news is not good in terms of the future of the German motor companies, looks likely that at least one major name will tank into oblivion with all the Gov quotas they now need to meet with respect to EV% of sales. The fines are making them highly uncompetitive, and are strangling them.
God forbid the market/people decide what products should be sold

BMW sait déjà aujourd'hui fabriquer des électriques performantes, ils n'ont plus peur des taxes.

@@mdh00000 I would think unless the EU bins all their quotas for manufacturers then at least one major company will dies off, most likely VW/Audi. I think BMW have a strong brand and are doing pretty well with their EV fleet. The 4 series being an example of a EV that is selling pretty well for them. They also have a loyal fan base, and are the cars of choice for fleet cars in a lot of Europe and the UK.
Next G84 will have a combustion engine alongside. The S58 is euro 7 compliant

I feel like BMW is really gonna regret making the M3/4 all electric. These cars are known for pure messing about doing donuts, sliding around, cutting up and track performance because they're the best M cars for performance. But an all electric M3/4 would be an absolute BOAT and boring to drive, I don't care what copium their plug supplies them with but it won't be the same at all.

They will have 2 versions. An ICE and an EV based on the neue klass. And likely will continue with the S58 on the ICE version but likely in hybrid form.
I have a feeling based on the age/time of filming of this video that BMW was originally preparing to offer only an EV M3/M4. The market has changed along with consumer sentiment and demand since then. I predict BMW will pivot a bit (like many other automakers are doing) by offering both hybrid (mild, HEV, PHEV) and EV options. I think BMW will still sell the EV version but as like an Mi3 or i3M. They will also sell an M3 hybrid along side it. I think due to the somewhat recent market change and limited development time a hybrid M3 will be a slightly updated S58 (likely with port injection added w/some minor updates to support electrification) running on lower boost/making less power (like the S68) married up with a motor to give it a bit more power than the G80. They'll do the minimum to meet EU emission regulations.
If its a choice between a full EV and a PHEV like the G90 M5, give me an EV all day.

I remember learning this. BMW also makes the true M cars as difficult to get as possible while blurring the name with other variants to serve Costco buyers than enthusiasts. If you can buy electric, why will it matter if it is a BMW when they all have 500hp? The raw BMW soul will be gone.

Not surprised considering the EU legislation and China as a market no longer desires new ICE cars. Also I won’t be surprised if this car destroys the Nurburgring times. Whereas Tesla showed how fast BEVs can go in a straight line, a BEV developed by the M division with 4 electric motors may be the car that completely changes the overall performance discussion.

I’d much prefer a 2.5l 4 cylinder turbo with an aggressive cam lope and a hybrid system than fully electric. Like the original E30 M3 and a direct competitor to the C63 shitbox

Honestly, I'd still doubt we've seen the last of the ice m cars. I can see a line of Ev Ms, but i don't think they'd make that change so quickly. I don't want anything more modern than what i already have, so it won't really affect me.

The interesting part of these decisions is that they are going completely against their own DNA and handling philosophy. BMW was never like Lotus but they did pride themselves on having vehicles that were great to drive that were very well balanced. We saw the M5 tip the scales like a behemoth pig. They are offsetting this by just throwing HP at it but all the consumables will take a hit like brakes, tires, etc. and the handling will also take a significant hit with the added weight, there are no tricks here, there are only so many ways to solve for this. There will also be increasing ownership costs due to the additional complexities of a hybrid powertrain. Personally, i'm all for evolution but the weight penalties for current battery tech and electrification is not adding a ton of value.

Well the plaid does have a lot of top end power, 60-130 is like 3.9 sec which is very VERY fast. But it could be 60-130 in 2 seconds still wouldn't buy one hahaha
