@richardlucero165 Me as well, first proper band I really followed, and also I got to see them live as my very first concert. I was 11 yrs in 1983 and was only allowed cause my older brother and one of his friends took me. Great first concert!
@@titanicf0g you do understand that 'new wave' is not a musical genre, rather a marketing label for an assortment of musical styles that came out at the same time...?
For those of us who were teenagers through the late 70's and early '80's, The Police are an iconic band. They've been present throughout 75 % of my 58 yr. old life. 🙌🏻
When Synchronicity was released and became a worldwide hit, if you had told me Sting would implode the band, go solo and never make another album with Stewart and Andy, I wouldn't have believed you and called it impossible. To me, a band this important should NEVER have broken up. Sting should've had his solo career AND kept The Police alive as well. Even if they had released a Police album every 5 years, they would now have THIRTEEN albums out instead of FIVE. Just imagine how incredible that would be.
Yeah man, some bands when they break up, leave a void. Just look at nirvana, guns n roses, heroes del silencio, hermetica. Great bands but the projects of their ex members didn't reach their previous height.
Hard to say how later Police albums would’ve turned out. Sting’s solo career hasn’t excited me since the 1980s and I’m sure Stewart and Andy would have improved things to some extent, but how many bands put out great music in their 40s/50s? Subpar Police music would’ve been better than no Police music, no doubt, but I’m kinda glad we only have five great LPs by the band in their absolute prime.
Nonsense.. There are millions of tracks released beyond what's on the pop charts, and a small fraction is fantastic. Look harder instead of complaining. Bobbing, Tigran Hamasen, Joanna Newsom, Polyphia, others are at least a sophisticated, whatever that means. (I'm a huge Police fan, and "Message in a Box" is the greatest box set of all time.)
@@skierpage Nonsense? Really? When you put on THIS particular Police record and fathom how it was made at the tail-end of the analogue age, Catherine's got a point that deserves way more contemplation than your cursory response. And your quasi-authoritative instruction to "Look harder instead of complaining" is as contentious as name-dropping Polyphia is feeble: That's music for watching because let's face it, the visible fretboard gymnastics are way more impressive than the sonic result. So... Apples with apples, mate. Synchronicity is a sophisticated record... and since you asked, that means it's mature, knowledgeable, experienced, refined. Methinks you need to take a deep dive into your greatest box set of all time again to recalibrate.
A masterpiece. One of those rare albums where I like *every* track on it - including Mother and Miss Gradenko! They did the right thing by splitting up after this album and tour, as I doubt they would not havebeen able to top it.
Un super groupe que j'aime depuis plus de quarante ans... J'ai eu la chance de les voir en 1984 à Lyon, c'était grandiose... Oui les années 80 c'était vraiment quelque chose...
I was 16 and this was the first album that I anticipated long before release. I watched this promo on MTV and I could barely wait for release day. Of course I bought the album on the first day of release and I loved it.
I‘m a fan since 1979. Their music and the combination of these three musicians brought something special, fresh and outstanding into rock music. I‘m so glad that I could see them three times live on their reunion tour 2007/2008. I was blown away…I will always love The Police!
To Be honest, although everyone would have liked another record to come after it, it was actually meant to be that they ended when they did, there really wasnt any way of following that record or bettering it, as it is a masterpiece, and it sealed a portal in time where it will remain forever. everytime i think of the record it brings up memories and times so profound i cannot put them into words.
I remember buying this album in high school. I was so happy. I didn't even have my own record player, but I wanted the pictures and images. I also bought the tape.
At that time in 1983: I sat in my father's car, waited for him, listened SWF 3 Radio. Then I heard the first three or four bars of a kicking snare drum and I knew: this was something new of The Police. And I also knew I would be part of one of their upcoming concerts. So I was fifteen, visited my first concert in life and never had such a concert after this one: an exploding audience from the first minute on ... after the band delayed the gig for nearly two hours 😳😏 ...and after decades I understood, that each of them needed the other. Only one of them didn't work. Later, yes, but not in the time, where they produced the first band records.
My fave three piece band of all-time. I still remember the summer of '83 and all of '84 how huge this record was and still is. Their final record was a full on smash.
I remember MTV airing this as a promo before the album release. Recorded it on VHS and watched it like 10,000 times before the album release. 😂GITM remains my favorite album but this was a masterpiece as well.
Lol... one of my least favourite Police albums at the time because it felt so commercial. Oh, how cruel is it that it would be their last! Much love and respect, in retrospect.
Amazing album. Always loved this from walking in your footsteps: Hey mighty brontosaurus Don't you have a lesson for us You thought your rule would always last There were no lessons in your past You were built three stories high They say you would not hurt a fly If we explode the atom bomb Would they say that we were dumb?
I love The Police and played tf out of their albums, especially this one, but back when this came out I thought Every Breath was a creepy stalker anthem and didn’t understand why it was so popular. It ain’t romantic to hide AirTags on someone’s car 😬😆
Too bad they broke up after so few albums. But at least they didnt continue making albums that gradually declined in quality. (The Rolling Stones come to mind)
Not sure why they keep talking about 40th anniversary, which was in 2023... The album remains a landmark but I saw them live twice in the supporting world tour, it was obvious at that stage that their inspiration was over...
The Police were my first musical love. I love many other bands too, but The Police will always be my favorite.
Me as well. I wish I would have had the chance to see them live
The band that properly got me into music, I’m the same. The love I have for this band will never fade, forever my favourite
Same here! My obsession began in 1989 when I was 15 years old and hasn’t stopped.

Their unique sound never sounds dated or attached to any 'genre'... five perfect, timeless albums.

I don't know. Their 1986 remade versions of Don't Stand and De Do aren't great and if that's the direction they were heading...
Just that Sting and Stewart would have killed each other….
40 years old and still so much more sophisticated sounding than anything made today.

Reminds me a time when pop music actually had artists.
I saw the Police in the early 1980s when I was an undergrad at the University of Illinois. One of the best concerts I've ever seen!
This is in my top 5 best Police albums!

Saw the tour in October 1983. It was an outdoor concert. The Fixx opened up for them. Great day.
I saw that show in Atlanta at the Omni. The Fixx did a great opening set and the The Police were fantastic!
Not a week goes when I don’t listen to something from this album. Tea in the Sahara and Murder by Numbers are my favorites. 🔴🔵🟡
Awww Man.

I went to the synchronicity tour concert 1982 Hollywood Park Inglewood California I was 17
My older brother took me to the Atlanta, Ga concert of the same tour.
Berlin, Thompson Twins, and The Fixx were the openers. Great show!
Actually it was the day after Labor Day 1983. I was there too, great concert. I have yet to find video of it. Only sound.
Wait... do you actually hear "Synchronicity III"?
