- After two years of war and horrendous atrocities, the Tigrayan People’s Liberation Front (TPLF) and Ethiopian government have reached a settlement, including that the TPLF will disarm within 30 days and recognize that the government is legitimate. The TPLF has stolen huge amounts of aid for Ethiopia, broken two unilateral ceasefires, and attempted to divide and conquer using ethnic disputes in the region - all supported by the United States. Hermela Aregawi, Ethiopian-American journalist of Tigrayan descent & organizer with #NoMore Movement, sheds light on what this settlement means now and in the coming days.

#HermelaAregawi We Ethiopians will never forget the postive impact u had on this dark chapter of our history...we all are proud of u, for being the true voice for the voiceless.....and I think the only reason the Ethiopian gov.t is signing this agreement is to avoid future organized insurgency activities by TPLF and save lives that would have been lost taking the capital, but wining the conventional war was 100% secured.

The TPLF is a strong poltico-military organisation which enjoys strong support of the people of Tigray. A peace agreement brokered mainly by the Biden admin has recently been reached with the central gov't in Addis. There's no basis whatsoever to claim that the agreement suggested a tplf surrender. It is rather an agreement reached between two conflicting parties, where neither of the sides could emerge victorious from a horrendous war of attrition that has claimed the lives of hundreds of thousands of combatants and civilians. For people like Aregawi, whose sole purpose and endeavour is to appear in the limelight as often as possible and are indifferent to the sufferings of helpless women, children and the population at large, the cessation of hostilities and embarkment to a peaceful life, amounts to disruption of their egoistic ambitions.
And one additional note: Contrary to enemies' claims, the TPLF is not supported by any outside power. The gross volume of its military equipment is captured from enemy forces, and the organisation has been conducting throughout the conflict years a people'war, in its truly narrowest sense. This mainly so, because the government in Addis and its internal and outside allies had perpetrated a genocidal war aimed at not only subjugating, but annihilating, if possible, the people of Tigray.
I’m not Ethiopian but under the TPFL Ethiopia had great economical success. So far with Abi in power we have only seen war and let’s not forget his lunatic best friend in Eritrea.
I'm Ethiopian and you are 100% wrong....we are the ones witnessing the huge economical and food security at the moment inspite of the war...If u are consuming only western media obviously u will have this distorted views b/c Abiy is dismantiling the only leverage the west had which was food Aid...Ethiopia will be able to feed it's own ppl 100% starting from this yr, not only that but we also had started exporting wheat to kenya...and Even if their is a war, Ethiopia was able to pass the 100bn yearly GDP mark since Abiy became PM, GERD will be completed this yr, we also paid back most of the debt TPLF borrowed from the west...which created that "illusion" of growth u were talking about, we have just inaugurated the First AI research center in Africa, build the largest science museum, sent 2 research satellite to space, the list goes on and on....Just ask the ppl living there before making assumptions.
