It's been a while since all your friends died. You're pretty sure you can remember their names. Dave? J... Jo, no, Jade? Yeah, that's it. Was it Rachel or Rose? You can't decide. You remember you knew a few trolls, too. Their names are long gone. Except Vriska, that's the only name you'll never for- Dad. You forgot Dad was dead. How could you forget Dad was dead? You were so so proud of him. You can't remember the voices of anyone. Your only company is yourself, and a faint ringing noise in your ears. Your name is John Egbert, and you've decided, this is the last day you'll spend alive.

A young man stands in his bedroom. It just so happens that this bedroom is devoid of all furniture. But this bedroom has been filled with the familiarity of one JOHN EGBERT. His eyes are full of glee - the retcon worked! Everybody is alive again thanks to him, and Paradox Space has been saved. Ignoring the tinny notifications coming from his PDA, he slowly opens the door. He slowly walks down the stairs, making sure the one person he wanted to see didn't hear him coming. His father had always loved a good prank, and he wanted to greet him in the way that felt natural. As he reached the bottom of the stairs, he noticed something. The harlequins were gone. In fact, all of the photos that involved him or his father were gone too. He was used to being forgotten by the alpha; he could just reestablish himself at some other point. But this was different. When he had wanted the universe to go back to normal; for a fresh start, he had expected some changes. But this was permanent. A young man stands in a living room, knowing that he had made the biggest mistake of his life.

The loss is too much to bear, to know that John Egbert is dead. But no. The Rogue of Void has had enough of this. There has been enough death, far too much death. Summoning her strength, she pulls at the unforgiving emptiness. It screams, not wanting to relinquish what Hussie so mercilessly took. In the end, though, how could it stand up to a Goddess in mourning? Into existence comes John and the trolls of Alternia who died, all but the false God of Rage. It is finally over. The inevitability of the timelines dies away with its Lord. Nineteen Gods and Goddesses rise up and enter into the Universe of their making. They smile and embrace, and are granted the Ultimate Reward.

On one side of her was the Prince of Heart, on the other side, the Muse of Space. Behind them, her newly resurrected friends and Paradox Daughter. All were cheering for her to finish it. She had the weapon in her trembling hand. She remembered John's words as he disappeared into Paradox Space, sacrificing his freedom to his new Retcon Powers to bring back everyone who had died... "it's all up to you now, roxy!" The weapon she conjured, the one that destroyed English and finally put an end to his tyranny. The final blow had been struck. Now it was a matter of waiting. Caliborn was no fool. He knew how it all would end. He could hear that accursed clock his previous host had been so proud of... T1CK. They waited. T0CK They waited. T1CK They waited. What the heck, everyone else is posting their feels so I'll clean up my comment from the Horizon video and put it here: This is a sad song, but when John isn't happy, he's not suicidal like everyone seems to be thinking, he's just... listless. He needs something to give him direction, keep him moving, or he just drifts aimlessly through life like a character without a story. And really, in the end, that's what he is. He's trapped in the juju. He's locked out of his own story. He knows it's supposed to be over, that we're supposed to have won, but can't remember how it ends anymore, or why he's still stuck here. Didn't he have friends? Can't one of them set him free? Wasn't there supposed to be a happily ever after? But he's fallen into a hole in the plot, and now he's left in limbo, with no clear answer as to whether he got out of the juju, or even what it did, and now he's floating forever through the void, searching for something to point him in the direction of the ending. He is a hammer in search of a nail, an heir in search of a parent, and all he can do is drift, and breathe.

They happen seemingly at random, he just stops whatever he’s doing, and goes still. If it weren’t for the little breaths ghosting over your glowing skin, you’d guess he was dead. If this ever happens when you aren’t around to help... You shake your head. You don’t want to think about that. He isn’t even 3, that won’t happen for a long time. You stroke his hair and hold him a little tighter. He shifts in your grip and whines. “Troll-Mom, your holding me too tight.” You sigh with relief, and you don’t loosen your grip. He’s finally come back to you. “How long was I out for?” You shrug. “A while. Long enough for me to worry.” It is and isn’t a joke. He can’t control these spells, so there’s no point in scolding him, but you doubt they ever won’t worry you. He smiles, opens his mouth to say something, and then frowns. His small hands reach up to your face. A thumb on your lip, a tug at your hair. You gently push his hands from your face, but he then turns to look at a small tattoo on your wrist. You ask him what’s wrong. He stares at your face. “Porrim?”
you'd seen your Dad. You really missed those cakes now. You haven't slept much lately, because Lord English had destroyed the Furthest Ring and their ghosts didn't come to comfort you in your dreams. There were only horrorterrors now, and they all sing. The songs are so sad and you recognise their voices. You know what the horrorterrors really are. They're the mangled souls of your friends, and everyone else who'd died in SBURB. And you can feel yourself becoming one of them.
I think of how awesome Mother the game is and how awesome homestuck is. Both with their sadness and flights of awesome and despair, but that tough luck courage always beating in the background. You guys for fictional heroes, rock so much. Just so much~

I'm not sure if this is correct, but my friend says that this was intended for Rose meeting Roxy and both of them dying, but a) it was made a lot earlier than that animation b) look at the track art I know that when buying the album, you get notes from Scheele discussing the tracks, but it's not on my computer and I don't remember what it said for this one
7 year old comment, but i recently bought the track and found Erik's notes on "Mother" for whoever wanted to read them. "Way back, before I was even on the team and before I thought I even belonged on the team, I recorded a simple piano refrain. First thing I'd ever recorded, too, and I want to say it was done a few months after Homestuck had started. In my head, it fit in as a possible refrain for one of the characters, and the idea always stuck in my head that it could also work as a piece for the very ending of Homestuck, a sort of “all is well” refrain. After two years, I was finally able to make something like what I was thinking and put it in the right context. Like the Homestuck Anthem, I went with using the four kids' instruments: piano, strings, drums/percussion, and bass, and stuck mainly with those. I also got some help by Mr. Lake of Awesome Beats Inc. who was way better at beats than I am, and he made it way better too. Big props to him. With the new universe and many new character being explored, this piece might not work for “the end of Homestuck” anymore, but if anything, I see it as a sort of moving forward. John's journey on that one day, when he turned 13, matured both him and his friends. Like many others, he took the hero's journey, and grew as a result of it, and so this piece could very well fit him leaving his universe and going on to the next, bringing his experiences and knowledge with him, just as well as it could fit him moving past Sburb to whatever adventures lie ahead."

A creature with no name is slowly floating forward through the Furthest Ring. Its form slightly resembles a humanoid with two wings, but it's hard to tell what exactly it looks like - it didn't bother to preserve its shell in a stable condition with its powers. The only purpose of the creature is to carry the universe in its head. It dreams. ... ... ... ... ... It's hard to tell how many years ago the creature played the game along with its friend, how many years ago it used the "he" pronoun and had a name. There's no time in the Furthest Ring after all. But the Skaia, who was left behind long ago, remembers their session. An unwinnable session was no surprise for her - but the fact that all the players' efforts will end up in vain would be unbearable for the havocated, exhausted and terrified team. Their Mage of Light, who learned about the outcome first, was the oldest and the most mature person of all of them. He looked through all the possible timelines, and there was not a single one that contained more or less lucky outcome. The session was doomed completely from the very beginning, and there was nothing he or someone else could do. So, the Mage of Light had slain all his teammates exept for the Heir of Hope, whom he instructed about what he had to do next. The Heir of Hope had to ascend to the God Tier and, upon doing so, re-create their session anew. Not copy it, but revive all the members and let them achieve the Reward. The power of Hope has no bounds, for it is the source of endless possibilities. As long as the hero of Hope believes, things tend to become less fake, while the Heir who ascended literally becomes his aspect. The Mage of Light lied to the Heir of Hope, saying that the latter's ascending will for certain avert their fates, and killing off all the other players was just a formality so that there would be no doubles from two timelines - the doomed and the hopeful one - after the Heir rises up. But the Heir of Hope believed him and went to fulfill his duty. After he left, the Mage of Light killed himself. The Mage lied so obviously, that noone would believe his words but the Heir, because the latter simply had no other choice. All his friends were dead, as well as their dreamselves - all of it was the Mage's work. There was no other choice but to believe his words. But as we all know, believing in something makes it less fake. And when someone like a Heir of Hope believes in something, it becomes not fake at all. ... ... ... ... ... The Witch of Mind looks out from the window. She is now 63 years old, but she didn't age at all - the Reward they got granted all the players an eternal life as long as they want to live forever. It's slightly raining outside, but the sun is casting its rays through the layer of clouds. Their lives after the Game weren't all easy and comfy - there still were ups and downs, arguments between the ex-teammates, relationships and breakups... but there was always hope. The dark times always came to their ends, and the light had always found its way through the clouds. All the people she loved were here, alive and safe. The Game didn't end up in vain. The only thing that started bugging her once she grew older was the faint... shadow of shadow of shadow of remembering someone. Like... as if there once was a person in her life, or rather had to be. The one who she was close to. But there was no such person, she could say that for sure. As an ascended Witch of Mind, she had an incredible memory that even included other possible timelines too, the ways the Game could be played if they did or did not do something. So she could say for sure: there was always 7 of the players. There could not possibly be any place for misunderstanding. ... ... ... ... ... The creature with no name, no past and no future is floating through the Furthest Ring. It has no face, no hair and no fingers, its wings have no feathers - it's just a silhouette of a humanoid being. It has no personality, no emotions, no thoughts of its own. Like a turtle that carries the Earth on its back, the creature carries the universe in its head. It's impossible to kill, harm or just distract it. It dreams.
On this day, almost nine years ago, a story no an adventure began. This adventure would go on to be one of the greatest adventure to be experienced. I have friends who wont waste their time and I keep suggesting it. Please, if you know anyone who would enjoy it, send them the webcomic. Let someone experience this great adventure. I know it will be worth it. What's not to like? The slow beginning? You will get past it. I promise. And watch out for the stairs 👌👌👌.

I suppose we wait till the game comes out. And after that, we start reading the next MSPaint Adventure. It was pretty painful for the people transitioning from Problem Sleuth too, but we've gotta move on. I'd reckon once Homestuck is over we will get the next big thing soon, after all Homestuck started some 3 to 5 days after Problem Sleuth ended.

The old man strolls into his kitchen, savoring the gentle creaks of the floor beneath his feet. He prepares a lunch, a modest affair, just some vegetables and some pumpkin pie. What pumpkin pie? His after lunch snack seems to have vanished! On the counter, where the small plate once sat, holding a slice of pie, an old woman now sits, though she does not look remotely her age. A gentle smile graces her lips, and the whole room feels just a bit brighter. The old man- No. _John_ places half of his lunch on a new plate. "Hey Rose, it's been a long time, huh?" Rose sits beside him, and though no tears trace her cheeks, the faint shine of her eyes betrays her emotions. "Too long, Mr. Egbert, too long." They eat without saying a word, the crunch of carrots and celery near deafening in the still air of the house. At last, they speak as one. "Happy birthday," and then bellowing, raucous laughter. John eyes the locket, recalling how he personally chose the velvet bedding, how Dave and Dirk crafted the body and chain, how Jade had procured the single fang which lay within, without a single word to Rose. She had resented them for that. It had been about a century of the silent treatment, and about twelve since the burial. The silence had stretched on for about a minute now, Rose was looking intently into Johns' eyes. "Sorr-" "No, do not apologize, John." What the heck, everyone else is posting their feels so I'll clean up my comment from the Horizon video and put it here: This is a sad song, but when John isn't happy, he's not suicidal like everyone seems to be thinking, he's just... listless. He needs something to give him direction, keep him moving, or he just drifts aimlessly through life like a character without a story. And really, in the end, that's what he is. He's trapped in the juju. He's locked out of his own story. He knows it's supposed to be over, that we're supposed to have won, but can't remember how it ends anymore, or why he's still stuck here. Didn't he have friends? Can't one of them set him free? Wasn't there supposed to be a happily ever after? But he's fallen into a hole in the plot, and now he's left in limbo, with no clear answer as to whether he got out of the juju, or even what it did, and now he's floating forever through the void, searching for something to point him in the direction of the ending. He is a hammer in search of a nail, an heir in search of a parent, and all he can do is drift, and breathe.

They happen seemingly at random, he just stops whatever he’s doing, and goes still. If it weren’t for the little breaths ghosting over your glowing skin, you’d guess he was dead. If this ever happens when you aren’t around to help...
You shake your head. You don’t want to think about that. He isn’t even 3, that won’t happen for a long time. You stroke his hair and hold him a little tighter. He shifts in your grip and whines. “Troll-Mom, your holding me too tight.”
You sigh with relief, and you don’t loosen your grip. He’s finally come back to you. “How long was I out for?”
You shrug. “A while. Long enough for me to worry.” It is and isn’t a joke. He can’t control these spells, so there’s no point in scolding him, but you doubt they ever won’t worry you.
He smiles, opens his mouth to say something, and then frowns. His small hands reach up to your face. A thumb on your lip, a tug at your hair.
You gently push his hands from your face, but he then turns to look at a small tattoo on your wrist. You ask him what’s wrong.
He stares at your face. “Porrim?”

you'd seen your Dad. You really missed those cakes now. You haven't slept much lately, because Lord English had destroyed the Furthest Ring and their ghosts didn't come to comfort you in your dreams. There were only horrorterrors now, and they all sing. The songs are so sad and you recognise their voices. You know what the horrorterrors really are.
They're the mangled souls of your friends, and everyone else who'd died in SBURB. And you can feel yourself becoming one of them.
I think of how awesome Mother the game is and how awesome homestuck is. Both with their sadness and flights of awesome and despair, but that tough luck courage always beating in the background. You guys for fictional heroes, rock so much. Just so much~

I'm not sure if this is correct, but my friend says that this was intended for Rose meeting Roxy and both of them dying, but
a) it was made a lot earlier than that animation

I know that when buying the album, you get notes from Scheele discussing the tracks, but it's not on my computer and I don't remember what it said for this one
7 year old comment, but i recently bought the track and found Erik's notes on "Mother" for whoever wanted to read them.
"Way back, before I was even on the team and before I thought I even belonged on the team, I recorded a simple piano refrain. First thing I'd ever recorded, too, and I want to say it was done a few months after Homestuck had started. In my head, it fit in as a possible refrain for one of the characters, and the idea always stuck in my head that it could also work as a piece for the very ending of Homestuck, a sort of “all is well” refrain. After two years, I was finally able to make something like what I was thinking and put it in the right context.
Like the Homestuck Anthem, I went with using the four kids' instruments: piano, strings, drums/percussion, and bass, and stuck mainly with those. I also got some help by Mr. Lake of Awesome Beats Inc. who was way better at beats than I am, and he made it way better too. Big props to him.
With the new universe and many new character being explored, this piece might not work for “the end of Homestuck” anymore, but if anything, I see it as a sort of moving forward. John's journey on that one day, when he turned 13, matured both him and his friends. Like many others, he took the hero's journey, and grew as a result of it, and so this piece could very well fit him leaving his universe and going on to the next, bringing his experiences and knowledge with him, just as well as it could fit him moving past Sburb to whatever adventures lie ahead."

A creature with no name is slowly floating forward through the Furthest Ring. Its form slightly resembles a humanoid with two wings, but it's hard to tell what exactly it looks like - it didn't bother to preserve its shell in a stable condition with its powers.
The only purpose of the creature is to carry the universe in its head.
It dreams.
... ... ... ... ...
It's hard to tell how many years ago the creature played the game along with its friend, how many years ago it used the "he" pronoun and had a name. There's no time in the Furthest Ring after all. But the Skaia, who was left behind long ago, remembers their session.
An unwinnable session was no surprise for her - but the fact that all the players' efforts will end up in vain would be unbearable for the havocated, exhausted and terrified team. Their Mage of Light, who learned about the outcome first, was the oldest and the most mature person of all of them. He looked through all the possible timelines, and there was not a single one that contained more or less lucky outcome. The session was doomed completely from the very beginning, and there was nothing he or someone else could do.
So, the Mage of Light had slain all his teammates exept for the Heir of Hope, whom he instructed about what he had to do next. The Heir of Hope had to ascend to the God Tier and, upon doing so, re-create their session anew. Not copy it, but revive all the members and let them achieve the Reward. The power of Hope has no bounds, for it is the source of endless possibilities. As long as the hero of Hope believes, things tend to become less fake, while the Heir who ascended literally becomes his aspect.
The Mage of Light lied to the Heir of Hope, saying that the latter's ascending will for certain avert their fates, and killing off all the other players was just a formality so that there would be no doubles from two timelines - the doomed and the hopeful one - after the Heir rises up. But the Heir of Hope believed him and went to fulfill his duty.
After he left, the Mage of Light killed himself.
The Mage lied so obviously, that noone would believe his words but the Heir, because the latter simply had no other choice. All his friends were dead, as well as their dreamselves - all of it was the Mage's work. There was no other choice but to believe his words. But as we all know, believing in something makes it less fake.
And when someone like a Heir of Hope believes in something, it becomes not fake at all.

The Witch of Mind looks out from the window. She is now 63 years old, but she didn't age at all - the Reward they got granted all the players an eternal life as long as they want to live forever. It's slightly raining outside, but the sun is casting its rays through the layer of clouds.
Their lives after the Game weren't all easy and comfy - there still were ups and downs, arguments between the ex-teammates, relationships and breakups... but there was always hope. The dark times always came to their ends, and the light had always found its way through the clouds. All the people she loved were here, alive and safe. The Game didn't end up in vain.
The only thing that started bugging her once she grew older was the faint... shadow of shadow of shadow of remembering someone. Like... as if there once was a person in her life, or rather had to be. The one who she was close to. But there was no such person, she could say that for sure. As an ascended Witch of Mind, she had an incredible memory that even included other possible timelines too, the ways the Game could be played if they did or did not do something. So she could say for sure: there was always 7 of the players. There could not possibly be any place for misunderstanding.

The creature with no name, no past and no future is floating through the Furthest Ring. It has no face, no hair and no fingers, its wings have no feathers - it's just a silhouette of a humanoid being. It has no personality, no emotions, no thoughts of its own. Like a turtle that carries the Earth on its back, the creature carries the universe in its head. It's impossible to kill, harm or just distract it.
It dreams.
On this day, almost nine years ago, a story no an adventure began. This adventure would go on to be one of the greatest adventure to be experienced. I have friends who wont waste their time and I keep suggesting it. Please, if you know anyone who would enjoy it, send them the webcomic. Let someone experience this great adventure. I know it will be worth it. What's not to like? The slow beginning? You will get past it. I promise. And watch out for the stairs 👌👌👌.

It was pretty painful for the people transitioning from Problem Sleuth too, but we've gotta move on. I'd reckon once Homestuck is over we will get the next big thing soon, after all Homestuck started some 3 to 5 days after Problem Sleuth ended.

He holds a small white ball in his hands, something which supposedly holds the secrets of everything, and invites dangers greater than he can ever know.
The old man smiles, and stows the ball away, not once has he seen it answer, but why should he?
He is no seer.
The old man strolls into his kitchen, savoring the gentle creaks of the floor beneath his feet.
He prepares a lunch, a modest affair, just some vegetables and some pumpkin pie.

His after lunch snack seems to have vanished!
On the counter, where the small plate once sat, holding a slice of pie, an old woman now sits, though she does not look remotely her age.
A gentle smile graces her lips, and the whole room feels just a bit brighter.

"Hey Rose, it's been a long time, huh?"
Rose sits beside him, and though no tears trace her cheeks, the faint shine of her eyes betrays her emotions.

They eat without saying a word, the crunch of carrots and celery near deafening in the still air of the house.
At last, they speak as one.
"Happy birthday," and then bellowing, raucous laughter.
John eyes the locket, recalling how he personally chose the velvet bedding, how Dave and Dirk crafted the body and chain, how Jade had procured the single fang which lay within, without a single word to Rose.
She had resented them for that.
It had been about a century of the silent treatment, and about twelve since the burial.
The silence had stretched on for about a minute now, Rose was looking intently into Johns' eyes.
"Sorr-"
"No, do not apologize, John."
"I-"
"I invited the others here, you still like surprises, right?"
John grinned sheepishly.
