My first vehicle was a 1986 Turbo 22RE Toyota Pickup. It had full chrome nerfum bumpers, sidebars, and bed roll bars. It was painted black with silver and maroon striping. It also had a 3" lift with 32" tires. The thing was a beast in the mountains. When the head gasket blew, like yours, I was a 17 year old dumbass and left it to rot. My dad ended up selling it for $400 to someone that just wanted the chrome. It wasn't until later in life that I realized how much of an idiot I was to get rid of it and every time I think of it, my stomach gets tied up in knots. It's awesome that you have kept yours and done some bad ass work to it. Keep it up and never get rid of that unicorn.
@@Bossman5674 I wish, sold my truck 1month ago. Bought it for 35,000 and sold it for 29,000 with 74,000 miles. Hated to sell it but couldn’t beat the price.
I love this truck it has got to be my favorite yota prob one of the yota that got me to love them and I am now on my second 2nd gen runner doing 3.4 swap now building it for a family trail rig
Sounds like alot of engine performance modifications to do the same as my stock 22 re with stock gearing on 31s. Thanks for letting me know theres no need
Beautiful truck. I have an 84 extended cab that's mostly stock. Question...if you could put another engine in it what would you use? I've been thinking of a newer toyota v6 or even a small diesel. Any thoughts? Thanks
22re and the 3.4 are probably the best toyota truck engines that we got in north america. I mean, sure the 3b diesel is a great engine but funding parts seems to be a problem.
Keep the 22R a in there I have it rebuilt by professionals Toyota knew what they were doing change only the cooling system to bigger radiator don’t let that puppy get hot and it’ll run forever
Honestly I would put a Chevy 4.3 in it. They are inexpensive and reliable and make good power without being too much for the rest of the drivetrain. I’ve got so much money tied up in this engine now.
VW tdi. 90hp stock and can easily reliably make 130hp and 300 ftlb with injectiors and a tune. Roughly the same size as the 22re. And will stay cool with a Toyota radiator. Oh and you can get 35mpg.
Okay thanks for reply, I own a 1987 turbo 4runner as well. I want to add a intercooler asap but want to keep my ac and not cut anything. I am going to do a side mount set up like the old hks intercooler kit.
I had a top mount intercooler and a good scoop previously but at trail speeds it created more heat than it dissipated. Never tried a side mount though!
I put my side tool box on the passenger side.. so ill have more clearance if was dead on freeway. And to have it visible from my window since we drive and park on the right side
I just specified "Forest Service Green" at the paint shop. They had three codes and we picked one at random. I had a Bug that I painted with another FS paint code and it was much less warm/yellow than my Toyota.
Harry Wagner Man I hate it that the ten is getting rid of 19 magazines which I subbed to 6 of them. I grew up reading all of the magazines that going away. I was hoping that maybe there was going to be an on-line version but the lady I talked to said no they are just going away. It's like my best friend and I always say Everything no matter what, It all comes back to money and that is a very sad thing imo. Good Luck where ever you end up.

I would pay 20 grand for this truck it’s beautiful well done! An it has a stock turbo I live in Hawaii and I’m trying to find one out here if you still have the truck when I can come up with the money I’ll buy it
Mike Victor yeah they VIN on the frame is from the original truck but has never been checked by DMV. The bed is original too but chopped down and doesn’t have any VIN markings on it. I’m not sure what a better way to do this would be.
I'm sorry but an T3 or T4 turbo is not bigger. It came stock with an T5. Bigger fuel injectors? To spray more fuel you need to widen the pulse width. Duh

The Wag Man is a Legend! And so is the Jr. MINT. That truck will do it all.
That Harry Wagner builds the coolest toys!
Yes he has very good taste.
Seen this truck so many times over the years in the background of shots in the magazine, very nice truck

Go for the 22re or newer 3.4 v6. Both are bulletproof

factory turbo sweet hows the frame ?
I love this truck so much!
So front mount intercooler and you still have ac correct? Nice rig came along way!
Alfredo Mendoza it actually doesn’t have AC anymore. There wasn’t room to package the condenser with the front mount intercooler.

Ms2 is the way to go.. that and 440cc+injectors will be a huge improvement.. very nice truck.. I'm sad mine is down at the moment
Any idea if he still has the truck?
He does! You can get in touch on hit TH-cam channel or on Instagram @harrysituations
@skankhunt42 already sold, but thanks! 😂
What company made the bumpers. Or did you have those custom made.
They were custom made by my friend Brian in Albuquerque.
Anyone know where i can find those headlight covers? And any possibility of a tail light version as well?
I put my side tool box on the passenger side.. so ill have more clearance if was dead on freeway. And to have it visible from my window since we drive and park on the right side
Makes sense! I didn't think about being on the side of the road, I like it on the driver's side since I don't see it when I look over my shoulder.
Bruh the drill on the ground and this truck is awesome
Love the logo
i still have boby long's pipe bender.
Who makes that case in the bed of the truck?
It is a Hardigg case. You can find used military ones on eBay for pretty reasonable. New they are spendy!
Dual Transfer Cases and Front Solid Axle!!👍
Megasquirt 3 in my 85 celica with a 22re
nice ride up here in canada its worth 18 cad no prob sounds like u have double that into it .what ratios r the t cases?
Braun Halliday the front case is stock (2.28) and the rear case has 5:1 Advance Adapters gears in it.

Jesse Rodriquez Right?! It’s so sorted out at this point. Plus... turbo!

It’s not “more than double the power” tho lmao. Stock 22RE makes 110-115 ish
lmao 110 at the crank, he said he makes 165 to the wheels. 22RE probably makes about 80 to the wheels. Think before you make a comment

No it came stock with a CT20. Which is tiny. And even these injectors are open 100% at full boost.

Sniffer yes, it runs clean. Visual might be tricky though with the aftermarket parts.
