respect for connecting the footsteps despite the grimness of the alternate! it's interesting, the CDT has much more choose-your-own adventure allowed, wide range of total mileages that constitute a thru-hike, so in one way it's less rigid, but in another aspect of purism, average CDT hikers seem much more ready to do roadwalks, whether paved or not, than PCT hikers. Probably because if you aren't willing to walk on roads, you won't get far on the official CDT either, especially in the southern sections, so folks are less fazed by them. with PCT hikers it's like... if the fire alternate is a road walk, they're skipping it. if there's a few miles' road walk into town, they're hitching it. but if a road is easier than the trail, they'll take it 😅 I try to mind my own business but it's always seemed a little funny. CDT hikers be crushing roads and trail alike

It does seem to be a different mindset. I like that a lot of the trail is make your own adventure. No need to stay on the FarOut red line.
