There are little hex screws in the K&F m 42 adapter, that way you can adjust it to get the "right" anamorphic look. There should be four of those little hex screws and when you bought the adapter it came with a small hex wrench. To be honest if you love that lens, you should get the K&F adapter with the matte inside finish. It makes the saturation and colors pop a bit more, more cinematic if you will, the one you are looking for is completely round and costs about the same as the one you have. I used to have both, but trust me there is a real difference. This is the one I use. K&F Concept Lens Mount Adapter M42-NEX IV Hope that helps. Thank you for sharing your experience with this lens. Have a magnificent day.
@@sethviews I don't think I understand your question, the 44M is always a manual focus lens. or did you mean the anamorphic version. I only have the normal version, but to get it modded to anamorphic is really easy, Well kinda, it needs some basic supplies for lens cleaning and some time and effort but definetely doable, here is a video going through the process. th-cam.com/video/H46HKg8C2OI/w-d-xo.html Hope that helps.
damn, apart from the whole cinematography, your color grading is just absolutely INSANE!!! You´re truly inspiring and I love that your films just look so different and authentic from all the other youtubers out there... they just have a special feel and look to it... your own look, I just love it :) thanks for all the hard work XX
So many youtubers reviewed and praised this lens. And almost none of them used this lens for short films, vlogs, travel films or in other projects. The main problem is that because of the unique look this lens does not match in editing with regular lens. For other focal views you have to use other old soviet like Mir-1B or Jupiter-37A
4:22, use the allen key that comes with the m42-Mirrorless adapter and align the lens correctly. The anamor-fake bokeh balls are vertical, they should be horizontal. Plus, when using the fishing line, try and replace that with a thin string pulled out of any leated 3D Printer filament, which makes the thin center line almost invisible yet retaining the anamorphic flare hack. Good luck
You know what’s crazy? When the first images on your video rolled through, I thought, “Hmm, that look gives me “The Batman” vibes…” Then you mentioned it used in that movie! Whaaa?! Talk about an iconic look. I LOVE the look of these lenses and will most definitely buy it. Like you, I’m not much for the clinical lenses, I like unique looks, mostly anamorphic. Great video, brotha. Keep pushing, you’re an inspiration
I really love how these old lenses that are made in USSR are now getting so popular. People used to say crap about literally everything that’s made in USSR. I’m from Latvia(it’s post-soviet eastern european country) and these lenses are very common here and cost almost nothing. My girlfriend’s grandma has Zenit E with Helios 44 brand new just in open box. I myself have a Pentacon 50mm f1.8 lens which has the same screw mount and I love this lens.
@ If it was a case of the Soviets simply copying an existing German lens, the Helios would not be remembered today. What happened was the Soviets took the existing German tech as reparations (look it up if you don't know why), modified it and made it their own.
God I love the Helios 44m lenses, I use them a lot for weddings. The swirly bokeh is cool but I just love the color, contrast and aberrations that I can get straight out of camera with this lens!
Hey bro any help on how to mount a filter to it? It doesn’t have a screw mount on the lense and I am struggling to figure out how to get any sort of filter on the 44-m. Any help would be greatly appreciated
I appreciate what you say about people preaching perfection and that imperfection is what adds character. I couldn't agree more. I find so many films being made today look too good. It's always sharply in focus, there's no bumps or jitters in any camera movement - when something is so 'perfect' I find it less interesting, it feels vanilla. I love watching older films where the camera wobbles a little, the focus isn't always on - but there's so much character to it; it reminds you there's a person behind the camera. And when it comes down to it, its always about the storytelling and how the director uses the camera to tell the story, not about how technically perfect it is.
I love my Helios. Meyer Optik Goerlitz is another eastern bloc brand with what I'd definitely call sleeper lenses as the character of both the 30mm Lydith and 50mm Domiplan is something very close to the Cooke Speed Panchro (although not as sharp, but also unpredictable because of inconsistent QC). Incredibly cheap to where they often make the Helios look premium in comparison.
Hey, I just want to say THANK YOU for the part of the video about perfection, it was really inspiring to hear! You're right, we do not need to be perfect every time, and with that we can also make something unique!
Great looking footage, man. I have one- not anamorfaked, but I still love it to death- the flaring, the warm color cast, the centre sharpness. It doesn't swirl as much as the 44-2, but that makes it a bit more versatile. Anyways.. I totally love it. My favorite lens ever- and I got it in Saigon for $50!
Hi, Vuhlandes. This Lens does come in a wider focal length ;) Mir 1 37mm F2.8. Check how to reverse the front element on it, and what it will give you.

I too have a 44M Cine mod and I love love love it! Its hard for me to switch lenses too. It is on my camera all the time. Love your videos!! You are a super talent.
7:33 - I don't wanna talk about how many aperture blades this lens has - well, that the only thing that matters for the Helios 44-2, duh; for the kids: don't buy those cheapos with 6 aperture blades, you'll never get that crazy bokeh, buy those with 10 - 13, or if you lucky find the one with 16, then you'll get amazing image
Funny that you’d put this video out now, I picked up this lens with the anamorphic mod a few months ago and absolutely love it. I’ve shot 3 music videos with it and plan to use it extensively on the feature film I’m making this summer. Big fan of your work, would love to link up sometime (I’m also in Detroit)
Just got my m42 adapter today, and I am going to pic up a 135mm f2.8 lens later. I know that this is quite telephoto but I like the compression that these lenses give and being different is good like you said.
I looove my Helios 44M since I got it a couple of years ago. got it adapted to my digital and all my analog cams and since it's so small and light, it's always coming along
Love your videos but this one got me good. Amazing footage. Been wanting to grab one of these and I'm sold. Which lens and adapter did you specifically get?
If you want something wider you might wanna check out the MIR 1V 37MM F/2.8 ;-) Another funky soviet lens which is also used in professional cine rehousings.

@@BrendanMiranda I used to watch all the helios videos again for fun. Why can't you do another video about Helios again for the love of the lens. A fan request please. I would love to see yours. I just posted mine few days back.
M42 adapters usually have screws on the side so you can turn/align them. At least my URTH adapter has them. It also blocks the little pin on the Helios. I heard some adapters don’t.
Great video. Incredible footage as usual. Love your stuff. I'm not a big fan of the thread down the middle of the bokeh balls in these mods. I love the oval shape and the Helios flares pretty well itself without the thread. I bought a mod front filter for my 442 as a test and the thread really put me off it. I might mod a 442 in the future but keep the original flaring. More a hybrid look. Oval balls but no horizontal flare lines
This is a dope lens and I’ve been wanting to get it, but for a m4/3 sensor it’s a bit too tight. It’s equivalent to a 110mm focal length lens. Which is very situational in my opinion. (Yes I’m aware that all lens are situational.) but it applies to this even more so. Love how it looks on full frame though!
Greeting from Australia bro I loooooove the look of your videos. Are you using the FX3 in the studio? And everything looks so rich and gorgeous. Do you have a video showing your setup and techniques?
Beautiful video, as always! Lens is stunning, especially with those anamorphic masks. Just the fishing line's projections into the bokeh drives me nuts. But what am I complaining, they are visible in John Wick 2 as well... 😉
Another lens to look at is the Jupiter -9 85mm . Its super soft but makes you feel like you are watching a dream . The super takumar 135mm and 55 are great too . The 135 mm is the GOAT though .

Russians have good taste, same for analog audio hardware, having a matriarchal society change mentality and taste also.
