The Metal Butcher..... A totally worn out 2 cycle Detroit not-withstanding.... All 2 cycle GM Diesel Power/Detroit Diesels that are in a proper state of tune with correct rack and governor settings and a "tight" blower, Will almost always light right off like that. My V12's that I built for my semi's (series 71 engines), would barely turn 1 complete revolution of the crank and they would fire right off.
Beautiful! That sound brings me memories from my childhood when my grandfather owned a Detroit Diesel powered Chevrolet truck. It's a pleasure to see a Detroit Diesel screaming in high RPM's...
They use synthetic 2 stroke oil like quiksilver, i got my 8v92 on 7 gals of xd-100 etec synthetic 2 stroke oil, way cleaner but kind of thicker though!
Love seeing this. I have a 59 350 that was my grandpas baby after he couldn't pass his physical and had to give up driving. He got it around the time I was born, and had my dad(who I lost a few years back) stretch the frame a couple feet. He always loved those old jimmy's, so me and dad decided years ago that a 6v53t is what it needs. Still no engine ($$$) but I have ten lug axles from an early 90s Fsuperduty and even found the transmissions, a 5x4 out of the 68 T850 that grandpa owned. I'm hoping someday soon I can get an engine and put it all together!
That's definitely the whistling Detroit Diesel! First truck I drove was a 1977 GMC cabover with a Detroit Diesel. It sounded a lot like this pickup. I remember having to tach it high in order to shift gears.
It's nice to hear a Detroit Diesel that the rack is set right. Tell who ever set the rack "good job" that's the way they are suppose to sound. About 80% of all two stroke Detroits are not running up to par and people don't even know it. I know two mechanics that know something about Detroit Diesels that the factory doesn't know, after hearing their motors run the rest are disappointing except yours. IT SOUNDS GOOD!!!
You forgot to do slam your hand in the door before you drove your truck, number 1 rule of a Detroit. Very cool truck, now I want to put a detroit in my 2500 Suburban!
West Chester, PA once had a '67 Seagrave pump that originally had a V-12 gasser in it and it was repowered in the early 1980's with a 6V-53. I rode in her and she got up to 47 MPH on the highway and 37 MPH on a fairly steep hill going back into West Chester. I know the turbo'ed 6V-53 was good for 225 HP and had 475 ft. lbs, of torque at 1800 RPM. The truck weighed about 14 tons.
How come this is the first time I see This? Look for this kind of stuff all the time! So cool. Love the truck! Dad had a 63 unibody shop truck. Detroit is king. 8v71 in my bus. Looking at doing 8v in my 83 k25
This one on my profile pic is just one I found on google. I have a 95 F250. It's currently a gas engine and I was gonna do a conversion to a Detroit diesel mainly because I love the sound of a good 'ol screaming' Detroit motor.
I didn't buy it. The owner was giving it away with a camper. My uncle bought the camper and decided to give me the truck because I was having a shit ton of problems with my chevy. Plus, money is a huge issue for me, the cheapest diesel I could find in my area was $4,500 and I sure as hell don't have that kinda money.
ThatKidd The truck in my profile pic is a 1996 F-450 with the 7.3 Powerstroke diesel. Got it got $2000 230,000 miles zero blowby and tight steering. Just gotta look around town man. Craigslist. I drove 50 miles to get mine.
Just to show you how powerful this 318-cubic inch 2-cycle engine is, I know a volunteer fire company near me who had a 1966 Seagrave K-cab pump that originally had a Waukesha 817 cubic inch gasser. They replaced it with a 6V-53T in 1983. Truck still had the same acceleration with the smaller diesel as with the big gasser.
they did, this engine was very commonly used in fire trucks and tug boats as they are a very high reving diesel. There is also a sweet 6v53 on youtube that is in a M113 A3
Alright, I've been wanting to build a 1 ton diesel 4x4 Econoline (75-91 era), but the Powerstroke and 5.9 Cummins are both too common. But a 6V53 looks like it's actually a great match.. and it's been right under my nose the whole time; you can find these anywhere cheap.
@streetwires01 When I used to be a volunteer fireman we repowered an old Seagrave KB pump with a 6V-53T. We had the exhaust tapered from 4" out of the turbo's outlet to 6" then had an 8" tailpipe from the muffler on out. No doubt that gave the engine a lot more pep than it would have had.
what it is is that the supercharger in the series on complete line of 2 or 3 stroke engines.. witch makes the compresion in the motor knock a little louder.. witch thats why the truck has no power stearing and makes it tuff to turn corners.. aslo the turbo puts out about 90 bk witch gives it about 5 extra horses.. dos every one get that?
Slick ride! I've contemplated finding a short-wheelbase, single axle '67-'72 Chevy or GMC medium duty cab & chassis and swapping a 6-53 or even a 6-71 Detroit into it. Those old Detroits sound wicked! One of my many projects is a '71 GMC sprint- the kissing cousin of the El Camino. I'm kicking around the idea of swapping in a 90's era GM 6.5 turbodiesel. What do you think?
@streetwires01 A non-turbo 6V-53 pulls about 450-460 ft. lbs. torque at about 1700 RPMs and is 215 HP (195 HP post-1972). The Cummins in a Dodge Ram is 300+ HP but the maximum torque is 400 ft. lbs.
It isn't "Forced" it is a blower and it already has one. You can however turbocharge them to gain some additional power. The blower is merely an air mover, it doesn't pressurize it as a supercharger or turbocharger does.
@vaccumme Simply this- the supercharger is not a supercharger. It's a blower. It's not providing boost, thus it is not a supercharger. That part, from that very engine (along with other detroits) has been modified in drag racing to supercharge those engines, but a blown detroit is considered normally aspirated. Turbo charging provides boost, boost gives more power. It's kind of like saying the Cummins is a 4 stroke, it takes in its own air, why turbocharge it?
reminds me of the old AM General Gamma Goats we tore down for scrap they all had 353N Detroit engines..man you need power steering!! 1,600lbs of 318 2-cycle fury!! A bid heavy on the front end??
@streetwires01 I'm a little confused (suprise!) I thought that the Blower was used to scavange the exhaust out of the cylinders so that the next power stroke could take place. If this is true, then the Blower and Turbo woud not have anything to do with the power stroke? What am I missing with my assumption? V.
That's one of the best starting Detroits I've ever seen. Nice truck.

I've never seen one that doesn't run even with a thrown rod or two as long as it's got one half cocked cylinder and fuel a detroit 2 stroke will run
Brings back memories when I was little. I miss those days.
Thumbs up to a Diesel swap, that's not a cummins!!!
Beautiful! That sound brings me memories from my childhood when my grandfather owned a Detroit Diesel powered Chevrolet truck. It's a pleasure to see a Detroit Diesel screaming in high RPM's...
I could listen to those old Detroits being rowed all day long...
Dry dump with oil injection to fuel for total
loss burn off, I’m hoing with Klotz ar50 2 stroke oil
my grandpa drove a 318 Detroit across country. He was stone deaf by 65.
Two things I like: FORDS and 6V-53s.
They use synthetic 2 stroke oil like quiksilver, i got my 8v92 on 7 gals of xd-100 etec synthetic 2 stroke oil, way cleaner but kind of thicker though!

God I love that year F-truck. That motor only makes it more badass-nice work!
so much torque that the rubber of the windshield wiper felt off!
He didn't waste his money on a supercharger, a two stroke Diesel engine REQUIRES forced induction. Look it up
Sound like riding school bus back in the days
Leonard Moul hahahahhahhahahhah
Klotz r50 2 stroke oil , can’t wait to try it in a 8v92
You have been on a Gillig Schoolbus so lucky
Well done. An amazing engine in a great truck. Nice Job
one of the coolest things i've ever seen
@ 0:37 mirrors folded in for less drag, nice touch
Lol sweet truck! Love those old Ford's
Just put a CO2 bottle, (fire extinguisher) under the SEAT.
JUST in case of a RUN-AWAY ENGINE & a piece of 1" x 6" to COVER the intake.
i almost had a runaway with my 74 JDX8 john deere snowmobile with a CCW 440 or 438 cc, i shoved my hand over the air intake and stopped it!
I dont think I can die happy till I build somthing like this
That is one freggin awesome truck, love it
if only my girlfriend would scream like that.....
You only need Jimmy, buddy.
Man I love that sound! I want one, so I can hear it purr if nothing else!
It's nice to hear a Detroit Diesel that the rack is set right. Tell who ever set the rack "good job" that's the way they are suppose to sound. Damn I love that sound!
Cool old truck. I would replace the wiper though on the passenger side.
old american motoxer but those are factory wipers!? 😂
Then send the man a wiper blade, if you're so concerned, dummy.
That is a beautiful machine you got there. Had a smile from ear to ear listening to that baby sit there and purr like a kitten.
love the sound of that 2 stroke diesel
best sound ever
You forgot to do slam your hand in the door before you drove your truck, number 1 rule of a Detroit. Very cool truck, now I want to put a detroit in my 2500 Suburban!
I smiled when I saw the Rx-7. Somebody loves oil burners. :)

I can listen to a Detroit diesel all day😈😏
...I would sell everything I own to have this truck!! Great work!!
Dude your truck is amazing, i'm kind of jealous!
How come this is the first time I see This? Look for this kind of stuff all the time! So cool. Love the truck! Dad had a 63 unibody shop truck. Detroit is king. 8v71 in my bus. Looking at doing 8v in my 83 k25
I love america
Kick ass!
Great rig you have, has to be a blast to drive.
I love the way that diesel sounds. I wish I could fit one in my f250 but, no money and no proper tools are stopping me from doing this.
ThatKidd I assume you have a 6.9 judging on your profile pic? if so I'd keep that, much better motor for a commuter. And a 12v cummins is even better.
This one on my profile pic is just one I found on google. I have a 95 F250. It's currently a gas engine and I was gonna do a conversion to a Detroit diesel mainly because I love the sound of a good 'ol screaming' Detroit motor.
ThatKidd If you have a 95 you could do a Powerstroke swap. And if you wanted a diesel why did you buy a gas?
I didn't buy it. The owner was giving it away with a camper. My uncle bought the camper and decided to give me the truck because I was having a shit ton of problems with my chevy. This F-150 is quick off the line!
That windshield wiper adds the class : )

I wanna buy it since I love a 2 stroke diesel !! Acceleration of your truck looks dramatic !!
gotta love the oil spots were he parks the truck you know thaTS A DETROIT
The idle of that screaming jimmy is like the Ford Vortex engine at idle (Basically a 2 stroke version of the powerstroke)
That sound is to die for

Sound awesome, but inside an Econoline Van? You WILL need hearing protection for sure! The noise they make is glorious but incredibly loud!
2stroke diesel were made to last. they were so tough. powerful too. so good
Sweet truck and a cool engine
Somebody inside their house might thinking the city bus is coming down the street.
She sounds like an old Commer TS3 engine, but this sound is brutal! Great vehicle.
AlmightyBanger they got 2 stroke as well
Bet the neighbors love you in the morning
318ci. Nice job. I've always wanted a 2 stroke diesel pickup.
2:03 VTEC KICKED IN YO!
That is so cool! love 2 stroke Detroits! ;)
Is that the aluminum 6v53 high output 2 stroke?
Not at 1600 lbs
takes off nicely, really like it
Dude.... That thing is fucking badass! Nice work!

I love than truck. Good job.
i would buy that truck in a heart beat even know im a chevy fan
That's a nice ride ,brother! Drive 67 Euke all day long in a quarry n then you will understand, what that engine was designed for !
Slick ride! I've contemplated finding a short-wheelbase, single axle '67-'72 Chevy or GMC medium duty cab & chassis and swapping a 6-53 or even a 6-71 Detroit into it. Those old Detroits sound wicked!

Sweet truck!
That is sick. I would love to make a pickup like that!! Good job

nice truck. what kind of trans + transfer case + gears r you running? hows the fuel milage?
SWEET, THATS ATLEAST TWICE AS QUICK AS MY 2001 FORD V8 HALF TON
all that torque
Great sound and looks like it moves along pretty quickly , what kind of fuel consumption do you get and what what did the motor come out of?
I love that sound
Neat old ratwagon (not a show truck)! Sounds great.
Bad ass Detroit
Damn that is kcufing awesome.

Sweet truck man
Its surprising what a 6V53 can pull for its size.
That truck is a fucking beast
Way cool. I got a 8-71t w a 8 speed I'm going to try to stuff in something eventually. Nice job

Living the dream. Go you good thing!

The Cummins/Powerstroke/Duramax folks don't know what hit them most of the time I bet.
sweet ride dude you need to throw a set of stacks on it with flappers
reminds me of the old AM General Gamma Goats we tore down for scrap they all had 353N Detroit engines..man you need power steering!! 1,600lbs of 318 2-cycle fury!! A bid heavy on the front end??
