This is exactly what needed to happen in my honest opinion, the other forwards that they brought in along with the other top guns need to start producing cause the defensemen are outscoring them atm. They are slower, softer, and no clicking anywhere on the ice. Brutal turnovers, bouchard and nurse doing bouchard and nurse things. Skinner stuggling with all this going on is very problematic in the start of the season. I dont see them making the playoffs this year considering how fast they were last year compared to now. I mean edmonton was known for their SPEED, losing all their young speedy players was their greatest mistake. This aint the same team as last year.
@@CaidenYoung-eo8xo This Oiler team may very well end up not being the same as last season, and sure hasn’t been looking that way on a consistent basis, with six losses this regular season, one of them in OT, during the first 10 games.
@wainber1 management has been bending this team over ever since Holland made that nurse signing and I've been following them for years, it'll be a miracle if they actually hit a wild card this year.
@ I haven’t yet found an authoritative list of teams that made an appearance in a Stanley Cup final one season, but missed the postseason in the season after that. That said, I count only two Stanley Cup finalists that the following season, if that season occurred during the modern salary cap era (2005-06 to present), to have the season after such an appearance, failed to see playoff action: - 2006-07 Canes, fresh off a Stanley Cup championship the season before that - 2021-22 Habs after having appeared in a Stanley Cup final the previous season, but having not won the Cup itself The Oilers, with 9 points (4-5-1-0 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record) over 10 regular-season games, arguably have more points than at the same point 3 regular seasons ago the Habs did (just 4 via a 2-8-0-0 record). Those Habs, over their first 10 regular-season games, played: - 8 during which they had scored under 3 goals (0-8-0-0) when compared to 6 such games this season the Oilers have played (0-5-1-0 record) - 7 and 6 respective games during which they had allowed at least three and four goals (leading to 0-7-0-0 and 0-6-0-0 relevant records) while the Oilers have so far this season played 7 and 5 relevant games (1-5-1-0 and 0-5-0-0 relevant records) While the Canucks, Flames and Jets have found ways to earn points in more of those games they played than not, the: - Flames have started to fade - Leafs, even with their not-great 5-4-1-0 record, have found ways to earn points in at least some games during which they’ve given up at least three goals and so far have only played five games during which they’ve given up at least three goals - Sens have played 7 of 9 games during which they’ve allowed at least three goals, but have found ways to win quite a few of them - Habs have a similar record to the Oilers, but at least aren’t expected to see playoff action this season Is it time for the Oilers to panic just yet? I don’t believe it is but there are signs of not enough players putting up points, with just Evan Bouchard, Matt Ekholm, Connor McDavid, and Leon Draisaitl having averaged at least 0.5 points per game. Among multi- goal scorers I count Draisaitl, McDavid, Bouchard, Ekholm, Jeff Skinner and Brett Kulak. Zach Hyman, Matt Janmark, Viktor Arvidsson, Derek Ryan and Vasily Podkolzin, among forwards, have yet to score despite having already played in at least five games each. this coming off-season, one or more of those forwards may be gone. Podz at least is signed a rather inexpensive contract and, because he is ineligible for unrestricted free agency simply based on age or number of non-preseason NHL games played, surely knows he needs to give a lot more if he is going to get a qualifying offer from the Oilers in June 2026. Yes, it’s pretty routine for players signed to entry-level contracts, provided the ends of such contracts take them to restricted free agency, but don’t give them the opportunity to exercise arbitration rights, but Podz is on his second NHL contract, so pretty much anything goes for him as to whether he will get a qualifying offer from whatever NHL team for which by June 2026 he is playing.
I agree with all of that, except I do think they are good enough to make the playoffs. But they are not a serious contender. Management failed them significantly this off-season.
This may be exactly what the Oilers need. Instead of relying on McDavid they are going to have to step up. Once this team figures themselves out then add McDavid.
It doesn’t matter that the game against the Blue Jackets started under 24 hours after the Oilers had beaten the Red Wings in OT. Nationwide Arena in Columbus is about as far away by driving distance from Detroit’s Little Caesars Arena as: - Belfast, Northern Ireland, and Waterford, Republic of Ireland - London Saint Pancras train station is from Manchester United’s home stadium of Old Trafford - the town hall of Hawkesbury, Ontario is from the Belleville train station in the same province Playing games on consecutive calendar days Mountain Time is a reality across the NHL and NBA, at least during preseason and regular-season play. So far this regular season, the Oilers have a rather putrid 1-2-1-0 win-regulation loss-OT loss-shootout loss record in such pairings of games, with, among such pairings of games that remain, 3, 2, 2, 2, 2 and 1 respective sets of games in November, December, January, February, and April, resulting in 12, 24 and 48 respective sets of games, games, and potential points the Oilers can earn. That’s 1/3 of the games the Oilers still have to play before the 2025 postseason although they may very well find out by the week of 6 April Mountain Daylight Time whether they have clinched a playoff spot or been eliminated from qualifying for one. The Oilers will have to learn to play as a team without McDavid in the lineup although whether enough of his teammates will step up to do so, to stay in the hunt for a playoff spot, if not actually get into one, still remains TBD.
All eyes on Leon 👀 he has carried the team before. Just like they just said gotta lead by example no bad penalties or bad body language if things get bad. I hate that shit
This is when Nuge becomes a Line Driver off the Half-Wall and when Nurse is used as a Hybrid Player and becomes a bruising tough as shit Winger who is a one-shot scorer on Leons line.
I think it's crazy that everyone picked this team to win it all. I know they play in the West and sure they have a chance to make the final, but my God, that defense and goaltending is nowhere near a playoff contender.

This will be the start of the test for the oilers lets see how they do in the next month
Didn’t we do this last year. Mc David is becoming the Mark Stone of early season injuries.
Mike Trout
What is this braindead take 😭
@jurassicfanboy1 idiot doesn’t understand a joke?
Oilers need to come out of this winning despite the loss 🇨🇦
Let's find out just how good this is 🇨🇦😁
Reaction is how the lineup reacts, and many forget the Columbus thrashing was on a road back to back
And no I didn’t listen and watch the video
The earth isn’t a globe

@@wainber1 Granted its a long schedule , you could have said it in much fewer words and useless statistics
@ I won’t apologize whatsoever for how I said what I had said thank you very much.

Not sure what happens with this team, they look slow and easy to play against.
Yeah its all on dr drai
henriique and savoi
The Zamboni’s faster around the ice
Ltir- they can make 8 th. Sign 12m worth of players, go full Vegas
I think they play better as a team with him out.
The Oilers will likely perform better in the absence of McDavid. ✔️
The cup feels so far away ✔🇨🇦😁

Defence is NO GOOD!!!!
Go fix it then
Your goalie is very streaky and the forwards aren’t producing enough like Hyman and Drai. More problems than D.
They will be say the same thing 50 games into the season. If you see it believe it, I haven't seen a soft hockey be successful
they wont make the playoffs / first round exit . No one believed me when i typed it in summer. Watch mcdavid wont be a oiler soon either.
I think it's crazy that everyone picked this team to win it all. I know they play in the West and sure they have a chance to make the final, but my God, that defense and goaltending is nowhere near a playoff contender.
Stuart Skinner is the downfall of this team.
SKINNER!!!!! says Superintendent Chalmers.
