I used to get lots of green water in my 90 gallon when the sunlight would hit it from a nearby window. I think a 3 day blackout cleared it up, but it's not harmful to the fish from my understanding. Love the name Luna!

Hey bud, thanks for comment :) It's in the basement, but I do have pretty large recess window on other side of room, so it can get some indirect sunlight down there. The 20 gallon long i have has not developed the green water, yet but it also had a low bioload... until now. This 40 gallon did same thing that happened outside, first water got cloudy more a white cloudiness like a bacterial bloom... then a few days later, green. I'm cool with that. I think it's because I'm running some stronger light (Two 30-36 inch Aquaneat) and dumped quite a bit of easy green in there early on. I know my valisneria is growing and propogating in the back there just can't see it. Yet. Eventually I think the bacterial colony will catch up, green water will subside. I probably overdosed the easy green early - nitrates are low, but... i'm sure other nutrients that algae love are high, as I do overfeed this tank with all these fish I'm trying to grow out. As I heard Corey from Aquarium Co op say, algae only needs one. I've added more of what I would consider high nutrient filters like hornwort and anacharis
