I feel the same way about Berkley Atomic Tubes, they are a tiny white tube that I bought for panfish, then I started catching everything. I have been hammering Large Mouth, Small Mouth, Pike, Perch, Catfish, all on these tiny tubes. I have people approaching me all the time because I’m pulling in Fish left and right. They’re great for lakes that are highly pressured with fishing, I wish I knew about them back when I was fishing local tournaments.
I’ve been using that exact rig for over a decade now. Super ultra light, 1” grub, 1/32oz jig head. And have caught slab gills, monster crappie, both large and smallmouth, even a few small stream walleye and a handful of respectable pike. I don’t only fish that rig exclusively, but my smallest ultra light is dedicated to the 1/32 oz jug and it is never far from hand. I’ll often still fish, minnows and shiners under a slip bobber, while casting that jig. However, when it comes to bedding bluegills, nothing will beat fly fishing, size 12 or smaller nymph will often catch gills one after another when they’re even refusing garden worms. I get the idea that when it comes to spawning gill’s you can’t fish too small. I look forward all winter to fly fishing for bedding gills from a float tube late may and early June, absolute favorite season.
Those baits have always worked well for me. Nothing fancy they just work. Love the sound of line peeling off that reel. Light tackle sure makes fishing for bluegills a blast. Great tips to get someone out there and onto some fish. 👍
Brother, what a great easy to understand tutorial video that helps both new and old fishermen to fish simply and catch fish! It is also nice that it is affordable for everyone. Blessings, Rob
You’ve definitely inspired me with this to get back to my roots and give the old spinning gear, ultralight to be more specific, another go. Used to love the Mister Twister grubs when I was young and caught all kinds of species. Great breakdown and video man!👏
I have been ultra light fishing since I was about 8 or 9 ill be 45 soon. I still use this similar set up. I use to use white or a chartreuse grub. One mourning me and my neighbor went in my small boat we tied to a old natural gas well and caught over 100 bass. They were so schooled to that spot that day.
Awesome man!!! I love that to this day this set up is pretty darn hard to beat. So many memories going to random places in a small boat as a kid trying to catch as many species as possible. Ultralight fishing is great
I definitely love 1/32nd oz heads and have pretty much exclusively settled on that weight on my ultralight rod. You can swim em a lot slower. I’ve been digging a lot of the stuff from eurotackle, like the bug bodies they have. Nothing like having the occasional big channel cat smacking it too!
1/32 oz is the gold standard for ultralight fisherman and Gods gift to panfishing. If I could only have one that would be it without a second hesitation!
Great tutorial on how to fool these fish. I have some Mister Twister tweenies that would work. I'm always chasing the big fish but these little guys look fun on ultralight, they sure do pull the drag, haha! Nice video, and I returned the sub!
Amazing Video and great catches! I am looking to get my first UL set-up and was thinking about a Daiwa Exceler 1000 or a Daiwa QZ750 reel paired with a Presso 4 piece 6ft travel rod. Unfortunately the hear you're using is out of my budget, have you used what I mentioned before or are there other rods / reels you might recommend?
Hey man what you mentioned would be great. I love that rod and those reels are proven. Have fun and keep me in the loop, Any questions feel free!!! Good luck!!!
It was my dream boat as a child I’m really lucky it worked out when it did trading in my old one. I fish the Carolinas, June is always a great time buddy
I just found your channel and interesting that I found this particular video right now. For some reason the bite has been slow for me this year. I fish a lot of creeks and even the tried and true trout magnets have been slow. This past weekend I swapped to a 1/32 ball jig and pack of 1ish in Yum curly tail grubs that have been sitting in my bag since last year unused and bluegill and redbreasts are hitting them. Best weekend I have had yet this season.
Man those bluegill look like such fun on those ultra light rods.. I have been telling myself I’m gonna get one for a few years now and just still haven’t done it haha .. hard little fighters tho!👍💪
Hey man! Dude… get one. Please do. It will blow the doors wide open for you and create a new lane. When you are ready I can help point you in the right direction, any budget
@@TheUltralightLife I wish I could get into it. I'm down to try any kind of fishing, but salt water ruined me. I can hardly get into bass fishing and I'm throwing 6 ounce glide baits and crazy stuff. It's just not the same
Great job out there! I've caught plenty of bluegill myself on those little grubs over the years. Really should get back into using them. Been stuck on using berkley trout worms lately, they can be pretty expensive, and honestly, i know those little grubs work just as good and so much cheaper
Most definitely! I bought it when the yen/usd exchange rate was much more favorable, but it still isn’t cheap at all. I will say, it is perfection at what it is however
What line would you recommend for someone new to ultralight fishing and does 2 vs 4 pound matter? Been loving these vids man thanks for a breathe of fresh air.
Hey, I would definitely start with 4lb first!! Then go to 2lb! If you catch a lot of fish over 10” then I would stick with 4lb for a while. Learned how to let them run and playing them out is going to be a key.

@TheUltralightLife i have the 5'5 "modle specified as light game rod. Believe their used for horse mackeral in japan. I use the 5'5 because i fish from a float tube. I have it paired with a c2000 22 stella.
