I have been fishing seriously for over 20 years and have caught over 300 species of fish! 2 fish have been over 400 pounds, but my passion is light line angling. I am in constant search for the perfect setup and have bought/sold/traded many rods and reels over the years. I have a never ending addiction for technical fishing techniques and high end JDM tackle!

In this video, I highlight two set ups that yield great results. I spill the beans on a system that has caught me thousands of fish.
One set up is a super ultralight spinning rod with 2 pound line featuring the donkey tail Jr soft plastic bait.
Here are the exact specs:
Rod: JDM Shimano Cardiff AX 62XUL-F
Reel: JDM Shimano Soare BB 500
Line: 2lb Trilene XL Smooth Casting
Lure: 1.25g iFish BG jighead and Mule Fishing Donkey Tail Jr

This setup catches tons and tons of numbers. I have had more 100+ fish days within a one month period with this bait than any other. When this setup doesn’t seem to produce due to conditions (muddy/windy water) or I am looking for that bigger bite I opt for my second weapon:
Rod: Dobyns Sierra Ultra Finesse 700c
Reel: JDM Shimano SLX BFS
Line: Varivas Big Trout Nylon 8lb (this line is super thin for 8lb, other lines I would choose 5-6lb). This Varivas line fishes similar to 6lb.
Lure: Berkley Fishing Money Badger Crankbait 1/5oz

The Berkley Money Badger and the Megabass Griffon BFS Crankbaits have allowed me to go from having a 0 bass day to 20+ in some situations. The same could be said about jdm bfs spinnerbaits like the Evergreen D-Zone, but I seem to catch so many more with the bfs cranks.
This 1-2 punch has saved the day many times for me, and I am sure you will enjoy it as well. You can fish the bfs crankbait in conditions less optimal for the super ultralight presentation and still have a blast on light gear. I have been fishing ultra lite for crappie for the better part of 50 years. But not only crappie but blue gill are a lot of fun.

Does that rod feel more like a extra fast action or fast action?
That’s a very good question! It’s the best of both worlds in comparing those two actions, I feel like it is extra fast in my hand by the way it receives bites, but it definitely has a more parabolic bend once setting the hook. Have you ever used an “ajing” style Japanese rod? They are very unique in this respect. What would you like to use it for?

imagine a time when all you had to do was row out to the weed line and catch them all day long
Still like that in some lakes, including my home lake. I have many videos using my other boat. That has no electronics and catching my bigger crappie. It’s all relative. This lake is 100+ feet deep in some places, and without livescope I wouldn’t have found this fish. In comparison, another lake a few months ago the boat caught 100+ off a structure you didn’t need any electronics to find. Just your eyes. I will say, I’m no longer a fan of using livescope as a main method. After the arcade like experience

Yes would pair lovely! That 1000 reel is gonna weigh a little more but totally will do good with the 60xul!

Those rods have a tonne of guides don't they? What are the rod specs and guide count?
Unsure of the guide count, most Americans casting rods have a lot of guides throughout the blank relatively speaking I’d have to see. It works well for the rod and its bend. The whole rod is specd weird. It is extra fast on the label but has a tip for reaction baits, and its parabolic bend is far from extra fast. Essentially it is a bfs moving bait rod rated up to about a 1/4oz lure
