In this three-part video, I talk about how to use the mini sewing machine from the point of view of an absolute beginner.
It can be very intimidating to figure out all the different 'rituals' that sewists appear to do before they start sewing a project or right after they finish sewing. Today, I do away with the mystery by talking about WHAT all those cryptic sewing rituals are, HOW you can sew using your mini sewing machine and IS THERE ANY TRUTH to all the mini sewing machine advertising videos you see online.
I will be using my KPCB Tech Mini Sewing Machine but you can use this tutorial for any sewing machine in the world.
Learning to sew with a sewing machine can appear to be a daunting task for beginners . But it really doesn't have to be at all. The most important thing is to have fun while sewing and just roll with the mistakes and imperfections.

This is excellent. At age 68 I am a beginner sewer and I just want to be able to make small repairs and hem pants. I have a different model mini sewing machine so I am not sure how to loosen the thread on mine after finish a seam but I will try to figure it out. Thanks
Really good tutorial. I find hand sewing tedious but I could never justify buying and learning to use a machine for the small amount of sewing that I actually do. The only way I'll know if a mini machine can stitch two pieces of cloth together like put a new seam in my worn out trousers is to try it, but for the price who cares? Your vid has inspired me to to give it a go.

I realise this video is a few years old now, however a tip - leave the presser foot lowered whilst you raise the needle at the end of sewing a row. Once the needle is raised, lift the presser foot. It's better for the machine, especially the bobbin race.

I am French and a store (Gifi) sells this sewing machine for 15€.
According to some people it is very good but for other it's a big crap.
What are the + and the - ?
What is the maximum fabric thickness? Can we use it on satin?
Currently I don't have a sewing machine
My sewing machine stopped stitching, Though The electricity is coming. I already opened the lower bobbin to see whats the problem . The thread goes into the hook everytime i turn the handwheel the timing is good but everytime i put on the fabric, the the thread does not meet the hook anymore so there is no stitches at all. Please help me i just bought it days ago.

Thank u...i'll try wheeling my needle into the fabric b4 sewing..i finally found my manual and saw the name of wt i was saying...the name is the thread collecter..u described it in this video as the fragile lever that pulls the thread up n down..mine keeps twisting the thread n cutting it...it pisses me off bt i'll try doing what you said.

I didnt...i give up on that machine..its a total waste of my mony..i cant even sew fr 1second..the thread collector will js curl.up the thread and cut it..i've abandoned the machine..i regret buying it.

I'm so sorry the machine was such poor quality. It's very frustrating, especially since you also said you cannot return it. I hope you will find a better replacement for it and that you will continue to try sewing. The handwheel of my mini sewing machine is not rotating smoothly and also lots of thread coming out of the bobbin while stitching. Please help.
How to adjust stitch length on mini sewing machine? At first I was facing the loop catching problem. I corrected it by watching your videos but now the stiching length become very short.
Sounds like the tension is too high. Use the square method to fx this:

thank you this video is very helpful, I still have a couple questions when you cut off your thread at the end of making like a line of sewing do you need to knot it so it doesn't come undone or is it fine to leave it and if you make a project how to end it like with a knot or something else?

This only does a straight stitch. Also puffers would be too thick for it.

Hi Areeba, if your mini sewing machine is so new, could you possible return or exchange it? The electricals sound faulty.
On the other hand if you cannot return or exchange it, you could try opening it and check the wiring inside. You can take a look at the inner mechanisms here:

Heyy .... I have problem with my mini sewing machine , can I know .... how can I slove the thread clusting problem , the outer bobbin thread is gets cluster when it goes down with the inner bobbin (inside the machine ) and the sewing so done is very messy and clustyy.... Can you please help me.... what should I do????
What thread are you using?

I never use the front bobbin. I only use the top spindle and bottom bobbin of course.

Is the electricity coming through? If yes and if the needle is moving, then it is most likely a timing issue. I have solved this problem in a video just yesterday. Check it out here

Does the needle only fall out or the whole tall shaft?
If just the needle, the screw or needle is faulty.

My mini sewing machine just stitches with the top thread and not the bobbin thread. Whats going wrong? I tried fixing the timing from your other video and then also did the nifty 9 and perfect p. But it still just stitches on the top

I've been trying to figure this out too because so many users are facing this problem. The only thing I have experienced is when the thread pops out of the tension discs while sewing, this happens. But it's very fixable. I will keep trying to find a solution. If you figure it out, please post here! xx

Hi Lucy, thank you for your comment. I'm so sorry to hear that your machine is giving you trouble. I think it is is a timing issue. I will be opening up this machine in a future video to figure out what the problem is. Meanwhile, I would urge you to put this machine away for a few days and focus on a different hobby. x
