That’s my most hated film of the last 30 years. I’m in graduate school for clinical psychology with an emphasis on addiction medicine. My bachelors was in behavioral science and my undergraduate thesis was on opioid addiction. I was addicted to heroin from when I was 15 until I was 22. I experienced amphetamine psychosis during a particularly difficult finals season because of the adderall I was prescribed. That is the most histrionic, unrealistic and cartoonish depiction of drug addiction to have ever been put to film, or even to print. It’s ‘Reefer Madness’ for the 21st century. Absolute manipulative garbage, just like everyone of Darron Aronofskys movies.
Talking about the movie High Fidelity and the way those used record stores were much the same in the UK, Canada OR the US (and probably elsewhere, too). I remember a wonderful used record store back in the UK in the early 1970s. As a student in Manchester I used to wonder in regularly just to flip through the records, listen to the choices the sales people played and generally have a really nice, relaxing time. And I STILL have a number of the used record albums I bought from there. My particular favorite is Harry Nilsson's Aerial Ballet. I still play it regularly and everyone who hears it still likes it immensely. Even young people who have never heard any of the tracks before, or even heard of Harry Nilsson. I also got Curved Air's Air Conditioning album there. The original with the graphics on the 12" disk itself! And Lou Reed's Transformer. And I also got the Andy Worhol produced album - The Velvet Underground and NIco (again with Lou Reed). Another iconic album from the late 1960s.

Still impressive that a 2000 movie took note of how nasty politics was getting and accurately predicted the brutality of trying to elect the first female president.
Roeper said Hudson and Crudup would be big stars in 20 years. Hmmn, Hudson shone bright for a while and then kind of fizzled. Crudup never really hit like Hollywood wanted him to.
I went to see Traffic but I was really disappointed as there were hardly any scenes actually set in Traffic. There were a few car scenes but they were always moving along so I’m confused as to why they decided to call it that. I asked the cinema manager for a refund and he refused. A more appropriate title should have been, Druggy Druggy Talk Politician Film.
Unfortunately Billy Crudup did not become the major star that they predicted. I'm not sure why. I saw him around 1996 in the Tom Stoppard play Arcadia and he was brilliant in that and I followed him after that. Both he and his co-star in Sleepers Ron Eldard should have become stars. Instead it was Keanu Reeves for no apparent reason.
eldard and crudup are terrific actors. dont why their stars dimmed, especially eldard. for confirmation, just at look at crudup in two different roles: Almost Famous and Stage Beauty.
I have never seen Crouching Tiger. Every time I DVR it, I just always decide that I don't want to see it that bad and delete it when space is needed to record something else.
They didnt have Erin Brockovich on their lists?!? What the heck??? That's crazy!! Erin Brockovich is one of the best movies ever!! It should have been a Top 10 for sure. I loved that movie.
Ebert didn't like it at all. Roeper wasn't on the show yet in March 2000 when it came out, and I don't think he ever had an opportunity to clarify his opinion.
No one ever discusses the set design on these shows. The dismal, shadowed black balcony of their PBS and Tribune programs has aged poorly and looks cheap, but the theatre sets got progressively better in my opinion, until the change in 2001. This multicolored galactic set was the coolest - the producers should have maintained it for much longer than they did and it ought to have replaced S&E's dark blue background years earlier. The dark blue was easy on the eyes (a definite improvement over the grotty brown and orange from 86-91) but it stuck around for too long.

Roeper said Hudson and Crudup would be big stars in 20 years. Hmmn, Hudson shone bright for a while and then kind of fizzled. Crudup never really hit like Hollywood wanted him to.
Kate Hudson's priority is focused on her Fabletics brand of fitness clothing. It recently expanded to men's clothes after being exclusively for women.
That doesn't mean they didn't have the ability
The Cell?????
Every time I DVR it, I just always decide that I don't want to see it that bad and delete it when space is needed to record something else.
just press play on it one of those times. It will be worth it
They didnt have Erin Brockovich on their lists?!? What the heck??? That's crazy!! Erin Brockovich is one of the best movies ever!! It should have been a Top 10 for sure. I loved that movie.
Ebert didn't like it at all. Roeper wasn't on the show yet in March 2000 when it came out, and I don't think he ever had an opportunity to clarify his opinion.
One of the best films EVER? Come now. Really, you need to see more films. Very good movie but that's about it.
It wasn't that good and A Civil Action from 98 with Travolta was better.
NO GLADIATOR LOL
Pollock is Very depressing
I think The Contender is OK but not great, too much does not hold up.
Cruddup and Hudson must have made a few poor choices after this.
The Cell is great.
"The Cell" had good visuals and a good performance by Vince D but not much else.

That's the worst list I have ever seen, ever! Of any list ever made!!
Mission to Mars sucks, and Dr. T is fucking garbage! Holy shit!
Mission to Mars was horrible....and DePalma is one of my favorite directors but that was his worst film...
2000 was a bad year for movies. Gladiator winning the Best Picture is a testament of this.
So you don't think their lists were good movies?
@@kevinwilson3609 I'm saying the output of movies in 2000 was weak.
I don't know if it was a bad year overall for film, but Gladiator certainly didn't deserve to win Best Picture. In my opinion, Traffic should have won, but I guess it was too controversial to get the top prize.
It's not the best year but it was better than 2011...
@@historybuff1986 2011 was a very weak year in film. Only best films that I can think of that year were “shame” and “hugo”
Pollock a great artist? I could shit in a blender and get the same results
Once again movies that general public does not watch or care to watch. Half of these here are big flops in the theaters.
no what women want, no final destination, no X-men, no what lies beneath, no meet the parents, not even best picture gladiator. They hate popular films or films that General population like.
Overrated so called film critics. Only a section of Americans take these guys seriously 😅
Traffic aged like milk and Almost Famous was always bad.
NGL full agree, but I also feel that way about gladiator
Preach
Not a great year for movies.
What are you smoking? Gladiator, Requiem for a Dream, Traffic, Cast Away, The Patriot, Erin Brokovitz, American Psycho, Road Trip, Boiler Room, Best in Show, Meet the Parents, Memento, lots of others that other people like, but I didn't like Pollock, Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon, Almost Famous, O Brother, Where Art Thou, Wonder Boys, You Can Count On Me..
