From the British perspective, we really aren't that phased by it. Our history stretches back a few thousand years, the American war of independence isn't really focused on in schools. I studied it as a history grad/major. For the Brits we just want to see the really great broadway show promoting equality, diversity and pretty sick beats thats been tearing up New York for years! It was worth the wait!

They got in a fight and had a rap battle. I went to go see it and there is no bad things about the French and also the French were talking about Alex so yeah.
I don't understand these 'make fun of things', maybe it's because I saw the London version but the only country really made fun of was modern america by king George (as lin manuel miranda says in this video: th-cam.com/video/4j2-3O9t7eI/w-d-xo.html)
‘I don’t get Hamilton being played in Britain. It’s an American play...’ Gosh! You’re right! Music and stories don’t cross boundaries to become universally loved at all! 😂
jesus that interviewer was so patronising, how many times did he have to say "this is a play about the winners, you're the losers"...that is not what the play is about. It's about Hamilton, not about the war jesus.
No one in America cares about Vietnam War. It was a very unpopular war that many people believe we had no business in fighting; which is why so many people burned draft card and escaped to Canada to avoid the draft. We don’t even really talk about in our history classes just gets glossed over.
To be fair the us was the one making those movies lol and its not like the people in the us even supported those wars at the time. But still I see your point and I agree with you
Why are they being so rude about the British? I love how the presenter keeps saying that Britain lost the war as if that would make it hard to do the music but they had no idea/ didn’t care 😂
I wonder if the reporter would have been that rude to actors of his own age and race. Probably not. Can you see him interviewing a Richard Burton or Lawrence Olivier and saying "you're the losers"?
@@MaryLou913 I thought they said whew thank god in the context that if they did sound the same on and off then their acting wouldn’t have been very good/convincing
When I saw it in Colorado, when he went “forever, and ever,” etc, oh the second “and ever” he got this super angry controlling tone, and then went back to this nice sweet tone for the rest of the Evers.
Trần Tường nope, I went to see Hamilton in London and have seen it on Disney+, and personally found the one in London more funny. He was amazing u were laughing so much but there was still the scared aspect it was amazing
I saw it a week ago here in London and the cast is absolutely brilliant! Much better than I had expected! Everyone loved king George, people aren’t sensitive about being “the losers”. It was a long time ago. Btw the fact that only the person who buys the ticket can see it is a great rule that prevent people/robots from buying and reselling masses of tickets to a higher price. It’s a much better system than in America (I met an American family who’d come to London to see it and they love our system saying that the way tickets are sold in America is ridiculous).
As someone who saw both the Original cast and the London show(As well as a musician myself) I must wholeheartedly disagree. The London show lacks everything that made the Broadway version great. If you are unable to see that you were simply blinded by the novelty created by the hype.
I mean I haven't seen any other cast live than the London cast so I can't properly compare but I have listened to the original cast album thousands of times (and seen clips of the original cast) so I had high expectations. What was it that made the Broadway show great that the London show lacked? I maintain that the London cast (June 2018) was amazing and I couldn't have asked for anything to be any different.
The difference was the intensity created by the sustained increased tempo.Which the Broadway show held they also managed to maintain complete clarity. The London show however did not taking continuous small pauses at time when they were meant to be powering through. This ruins both the intensity and also shows the difference in class as the cast could not fully perform the songs.
I attended this show on 5/10 and it was awesome! There were so many Americans in the audience..."it is less expensive to come over here for a long weekend and see the show than go to New York!" King George was hilarious!
Eric Bowers sort of makes sense, though. The American Revolution is just a small drop in the history of Britain, but it's the beginning (and arguably the most important part) of ours. Though I have to admit the "haha, we won, you lost!!" attitude, THIS long after the fact, is ridiculous x'D
khaza1wolfgurl oh yeah im not denying how vital that was when i got into hamilton i had no idea what was going on because schools here literally just don’t teach about it at all yeah that mentality is what’s funny
I’m not being funny but just because we’re British we feel any different about us ‘loosing’ the war. We’re not bothered, you deserved your freedom but the fact you think we feel different about the show is just absolutely ridiculous. The actors were literally laughing at you and it is just funny you think you’re superior over something that happened years ago. Stop talking down to us, your current leader isn’t exactly the best person to be ruling your country now is it. This reporter needs to stop
It’s like the reporter thought all us Brits were fighting in the American Revolution. BRUH I can guarantee you we aren’t bothered by a TWO HUNDRED YEAR OLD WAR.
‘How would a musical about an American victory and British defeat’ ‘this is a play about the winners in the place of the losers’ Lol have you seen it? It ain’t. This guy really gets it wrong. It’s a great musical. Everyone laughed at king George in the states and they laughed in the uk. Character is played the same.
As an American it's just annoying to always hear how much my fellow Americans obsess over their freedom and independence. The war was centuries ago shut up and enjoy the musical no matter where it's at!
“Aaron Burr played by a Londoner” “Wow how will that work since the character is American?!” Well the actual Aaron Burr tried to make New England a separate country after failing to become a politician so...
MBM1117727 what?! What is this witchcraft you speak of?! I’m an American living in the UK and I physically can’t watch American news anymore. It’s set for the lowest level of comprehension.
It's not like the real Aaron Burr had an American accent. He was an aristocratic colonial, probably with something close to RP with a mixture of classic Dutch in his accent, and Hamilton probably had some French Creole quirks hidden behind a fake proper colonial New England dialect. Modern English and modern American (Midwest or New England) accents are equally as foreign compared to the sounds of the 18th century folks. There are recordings of seniors in the late 19th century that might give one the idea of what their more proper grandparents spoke like.
Chris Gray We should have went full on into the war or should have not entered it all. It was a huge mistake how the war was handled, but it was an equally huge mistake for how the Soldiers were treated upon returning home. Most were drafted and had no choice, yet they were spit on and treated like garbage when they returned. We also helped win in World War II and without our help, inevitably Britain would have been defeated as they couldn’t hold out forever with no alies
Okay. I'm only halfway (3:25) through the video, but what does it matter if the British/English decide to allow other British/English people experience the musical/play of Hamilton? Just because England and America fought like 200 years ago doesn't make it any different. It's not weird or illegal that/if English people want to see Hamilton. Take me, as an example. I'm English. I don't live in London, but near it (approximately a 45min - 1hr drive), and because of that, I cannot fly all the way to New York just to see the musical. In all honesty (I've watched clips of the original musical on TH-cam etc.), the musical that I saw was equally amazing to the American one, and the cast is equally wonderful as the original/current American broadway cast. I'm sorry if I'm misunderstanding the narration, but nonetheless, this is my opinion. It may change in the near future, but for now, it stays as it is. Also, please do not refer to British/English people/the English country as [the] "losers [land]". It's disrespectful. EDIT: Um, excuse me, but have you ever even seen Hamilton? (5:47) The British and Americans do *NOT* make 'fun' of the French. France and America were working together to fight the war of independence against Britain. At no point of the musical does anyone insult France.... I think
Also hello fellow brit, I live on the border of North Yorkshire so getting the train down to London is more expensive than flying to Spain for 2 weeks all inclusive lol
But you wont experiance hamilton. You'll experience an approximation with little soul. (It was still very good but not as) its a problem with the British performing not experiencing
Brad Murray have not been to Broadway but want to been to the west end because london is a few hours on the train from me and have to be on a plane overnight to do Broadway so have seen the london cast so also to be fair isn't there one character in Hamilton who is french so as well as pepole critsising us english for not doing a perfect american acent shouldn't the same be said for the french accent are full cast in the west end are from all the way around the world also my family on my mums side are originaly from japan but like Hamilton moving from the Caribbean to New York they moved grom Japan to England
I was online at 3:30 am CST to order our tickets when they first went on sale. We loved it! The cast and theater are amazing! I would travel to the UK again to see this cast and show!
The difference is that England has a much longer history than America, so when considering the American war of independence it’s a small event in our history whilst the biggest in there’s. So it is understandable that it can be lost in translation when considering the actual emotions towards ‘winning’ or ‘losing’
Yep!! She was soo frickin amazing!!!!! She nailed the vocals and was sooo good! I didn’t know what I was expecting but I was definitely not disappointed!
I think the American obsession about winning the revolutionary war with Britain is quite unhealthy :p Americans need to realise no one else is as hung up about the revolutionary war as they are! Plus Britain had more important colonies elsewhere and never commited as much in the Americas as it did in places like India :/ but you don't see the English getting upset over it :p Edit : I made this remark in regard to the reporters comment "land of the losers", not Hamilton. I loved the musical. It's just seeing some Americans like this reporter go on about Britain losing is rather silly.
whakabuti lol, they use them as jokes! I don’t think I’ve ever met an American that actually cared. But the war was also their call of independence if I’m not mistaken, which technically made the country? Fourth of July is a big date for them for a reason!
We really don't care that much. Not as much as this (embarrassing) reporter makes it out to be. Nobody calls the British "The Losers" for instance. Before this musical, the Revolutionary War was just something you learned in History class, or an excuse to have fireworks and barbecue on July 4th. This musical really brought it alive in a way I think most Americans never imagined it. There's a difference in seeing young, vibrant people who remind you of people you know "living" through this American Revolution and reading boring passages about it in your 8th grade textbook. Also, I wouldn't say the British weren't that committed to the Americas. It was popular territory in Europe in general. And the British did go to war with the Rebels about it (I say "rebels" because some of those people ultimately ended up being Canadians, because at the time... the only clear distinctions were which colonies were British and which were French, and some of the British ones became Canada.) And I think India, which wasn't under British rule until way after American independence (Am. Ind. circa 1783, Indian occupation or British Raj circa 1858), became as central as it did because Britain no longer had their main/most lucrative American territories. (The Southern part of the US grew a lot of crops, which were lucrative af. Plus, Britain could tax the American colonies higher, which they took full advantage of.) Also important to remember is, at the time, Britain was obsessed with Empire, which is why they had soooo many colonies around the world. Losing the American colonies was a bad thing, for them. Especially because it set the precedent for other revolutions around the world. But also, they still have a territory here, in Canada. Canada is still part of the British Empire. (Orrr however you say it. At any rate, the British Monarchy is their leadership aside from Trudeau, and Elizabeth is their Queen, too.) And before you say I do seem to care a lot; I'm just a nerd lol. I don't care, in that I'm American and think our country is so great or anything. I just like accuracy, and discussing history is fun for me. And, as a person of color, I'm not that impressed with the American Revolution because, well... slavery was still legal for another century (Declared Independence in 1776, slavery was abolished in 1865 and some people remained enslaved for up to another decade). So, "freedom" was a false concept, anyway. Freedom from Great Britain, meanwhile you're keeping African people enslaved, and you're displacing or murdering thousands of Native people. Yeah, no, we're not deluded about our revolution and what it really meant.
most people think it’s stupid how patriotic some people are. But the revolutionary war is what started the whole country, it’s probably the most significant period in US history. Other than maybe soldiers and history teachers most people don’t care that much about. The real reason people are making a big deal out of is because of the quality of the play- it’s funny, tragic, and the music is surprisingly good and broad. The reporter was being kinda stupid and trying to be funny, but yeah most people don’t think like that (I don’t know anyone who does) Oh and if it wasn’t obvious enough I’m American
whakabuti well I've seen several comments complaining about obbesion with winning and no obsession with winning so it looks like there is more of an unhealthy obbesion with complaining
This cast is amazing on and off stage ! I’m a family friend of one of the cast members and we got to go backstage . We got to meet a bunch of them and they were all so sweet ! ❤️ (oh and I hate how the reporter calls them losers 😒)
We didn’t lose we just surrendered because we were fighting France and Spain at the same time. As stated in ‘what comes next’ “you cheat with the French now I’m fighting with France and with Spain.” We only stopped fighting the Americans because we couldn’t fight three countries at the same time. Money was low due to the war.
This is not at all a criticism, the cast sounds awesome, but is it just me or do the songs seem a bit "off"? Not bad, just like they've been brought down a pitch or put into a different key maybe? I don't have enough musical knowledge to indentify exactly what it is, but I can notice a difference.
I think in most musicals, if someone in one of the casts has songs that don't suit their vocal range, particularly with solos, they change the key slightly to accommodate for it.
This Burr has been very divisive. I saw both their London stand-ins and thought they were excellent, though - much closer to what I heard on the soundtrack recording.
EtherealAstraea I think it’s just the way they’ve interpreted the song and music. Also, we’re so used to hearing Lin, Leslie etc that it sounds so strange to hear other people sing it. I’m British, and I am completely agree that the British cast do sound slightly off, but I think it’s just a case of hearing it differently.
“There is one slight adjustment in the play here- the character of the British King at the time, George the Third, is played a bit more for laughs- less, perhaps, as a villain.” Uh.... have you SEEN the American one? Have you even listened to the recording? Then again, this guy is so American that maybe that came off as a realistic portrayal of Brits.
I saw these terrific actors on the west end a couple of days ago and am still out of breathe...it was amazing. there wasn't even a empty chair in the entire place and during the encore there was not a single seat taken with everybody giving a standing ovation.
I saw the West end production back in January, and the whole cast has since then made it to the cast of my heart. I love them all so much and wish there was an official recording of their version of Hamilton.
I saw Hamilton in London before I saw it in the US and it was amazing. The audience got a KICK out of making fun of the king, just like we get a kick out of making fun of our government.
Excuse, maybe my english is not good enough, but the play never make fun of the Frenchs. Lafayette was one of the heroes of the US independence, sent by the French king to emmerder the Brits :p the original character in the US adopted a french accent while singing to make it more real, not to mock him. Font chier les anglais comme d’hab! Anyway « Say the King casse-toi who is the best, c’est moi »
Me as an American, used to Burr being played by Leslie Odom, mildly disappointed, I guess not disappointed, more shocked because the actor in this is very... He sings very differently than Leslie so it's mildly odd to me
I know this isn't a very important detail, but they casted a dark skinned, plus sized woman in a leading role. As a dark skinned, plus sized woman, this is a big deal to me.
0:29 I'm So Excited For Lin Manual Miranda And Cameron Mackintosh's Hamilton The West End Hit Musical At London's Victoria Palace Theatre This Year. Thanks Mate. X
I'm 99% certain, a bigger percentage of the people who liked the play, were British. In the UK, we love how King George is portraid to maximum extent. It's only sad we didn't see more of him. We don't really care we lost the US revolution, nor the 'patriotic' fever in it. It's just a damn good play and musical.
Many Americans are still highly sensitive about it so they like to mock us for losing , which makes them look rather childish in the process especially when we don’t do the same thing over 1812.
MiChAeL RoSeN honestly him and Eliza are probably the best members of the cast in terms of what they can do. He is not Leslie, but that's not a bad thing imo.
I saw one of his standbys just yesterday perform and he was absolutely incredible. We thought him and Eliza were the best of the cast, as well as king George
yes its a play about america being better but england dont care anymore about that war we have a different goverment now and everything has changed we're not a hung up on it as america
The US production could easily institute the same ticket scalping prevention measures. BUT the theatre here also has a daily £10 ticket lottery that people can join for affordable tix. That's why I love this city. I was lucky enough to see this a couple of weeks after it opened in December. It is wonderful, and absolutely deserved the Pultizer.
I'm just gonna say it, after watch the play with the original like 10 times... Seeing and hearing this cast just doesn't hit like it should. Not to say they sing or act bad, but it just doesn't.. hit?
Glad to hear it. This is a major problem. In the past people would start conversations before a performance. Now everyone is texting or surfing, in the past people would use film cameras. They were easy to stop but now with phones all I usually see is a glow during performances. One women once streamed part of it back to her family. Really rude.
When I saw the show I didn’t really notice anyone using their phones. I had to quickly use my phone because I’d forgotten to text my relatives that I’d reached the theatre safely, but that was it. Otherwise I hate using the phone myself or seeing someone else using it. I mean how can you pay attention to your phone when you’re watching such and awesome musical??!
No you’re not allowed to use them or flash photography during performances, if you are spotted by an usher you will be asked to turn it off or to leave
Right there at the end, the guy said that Americans and Brits can join together to make fun of the french(which... yeah), but he said that the show does that... at what point does Hamilton make fun of the French? The one French character is, in my opinion, one of the coolest in the show
I really don’t get the fascination that this reporter with reminding British people that we lost the American Revolutionary War. We know. It was also like 250 years ago. No one has a dog in this fight anymore except the US. We find the story of independence of your country just as cool as you probably do. Don’t forget the people of my country at the time that benefitted from colonialism were a very small part of affluent society. Most of modern British society have no kinship to those who would wanted to have been your colonial masters. I’m not a loser of a battle that happened to found (at its core) a country that was founded on greater values than my own, but yet follows a similar timeline to the same empire it struggled so righteously to release itself from
The bit they said at the end about buying tickets and the what if it’s a gift is the problem me and my friend had cause her mum bought the tickets for us...
*Angelica* We have the best Angelica, but their Angelica is amazing, and she is really slick and smooth with her movements than ours, ours was more stiff, and both had amazing voices. *Eliza* Our Eliza suprised me physically and mentally, and blew me away with chills, but their Eliza is amazing, but both have the most amazing voices in the real show, but their Eliza is way better. *Peggy* Honestly, what I can think about Pegyy is she is underestimated considering she dies later in the play, that's one of the reasons, but she doesn't die until the close to end last songs, sometime near congratulation, both Peggy's are amazing, but their Peggy shows way more expression.* *Hamilton* Although, Lin Manuel created the show, he is not really as much of an actor or singer, he sings good, don't underestimate what I am saying, but their Hamilton guy is a bit better. *Burr* Honestly, their Burr sounds quirky and weird, he has a good voice, but he is very tiff in some parts to me, and it confuses me, I haven't seen the play in their country, but from the clips I've seen he looks weird to me, and his singing is eh- our Burr is a bit better than theirs, and shows way more emotion and sings really well. For the Hamilsquad, and Washington, I really don't know what to say about them. {Edit 1;} Although, I do like the overpowering, and voice of someone being in command thay Washington has on their show, not like ours doesn't have that though. {Edit 2;} Honestly, Lin Manuel shows more expression that their Hamilton actor, and he can also keep in key more than their Hamilton, so it confuses me, also the Burr sounds really weird to me.
Hannah Mowbray Nope, I thought I said this in that comment, but this is my opinion, if others have opinions, I might have to do more research honestly, but if you've seen it I'd love some details if you can offer.
LuckyPride AJ based on your edit I thought you might have seen it. I have seen it and I can promise you that you’re opinion is invalid until you’ve seen it. Nothing compares to seeing it live.
Hannah Mowbray Thank you for telling me this, camera seeing it is always seen as not valid, as the recording of Renee's voice in other videos are horrible, but when you actually hear it, it is just amazing, glad we can talk efficiently instead of someone coming up to me telling me I am stupid or I don't know what I am talking about, thanks.
i saw it in london lmao. they were really good but the guy who played hamilton’s accent was really hard to understand. overall it was way more interesting to hear all the different voices instead of what you’re typically used to
I saw the west end version last month and everyone other than the british characters had perfect american accents, idk why but the footage didn’t really do that much justice
I've been living in Asia for over a decade, I LOVE meeting people from the UK the most. Such a great sense of humor, the revolution always pops up and we banter about it. I've been told many times that the Brits are just waiting for an apology and they will take us back 😂😂
Usually musicals cast don't cross borders. A classic like Phantom of the Opera would have a cast in France using french actors. Sweden would use Swedish actors, etc. When the Brits write a great musical you would have to travel to England. When the show gets to America it gets a American cast.
There are Equity and American Equity regulations governing American and British casting not to say the substantial costs incurred In accommodating a full cast transfer.
That's definitely a matter of opinion. I prefer the WEC Angelica to the OBC Angelica, but I prefer the OBC Hamilton to the WEC Hamilton. Sometimes it's a matter of what your personal preferred sound is, and sometimes it's entirely for technical reasons. For example, I was lucky enough to see the West End show very recently and I noticed that the actor who plays Burr has a speech impediment that makes him a bit difficult to understand (No offence to him or anything, He's still a fantastic singer despite the impediment) so I prefer the OBC Burr, simply because he's easier to listen to. And In some cases I can't decide, like, I prefer the OBC Jefferson/Laffayette's voice, But I prefer the WEC Jefferson/Laffayette's energy on stage (I mean he is the master of sass, sweet jesus). Anyway, I'm rambling so I'm gonna stop.

Someone needs to tell the reporter that the war is over lol
Sophia Gainsford or to shut his TRAP

my thoughts exactly

This cracked me up, I totally agree
American here✌🏻- I was literally just thinking the same!! "So what's you're answer?" he said. How R-U-D-E. The reporter has not seen the show. "One slight adjustment : King George here is played for laughs, not a villian." YES. SAME as in the US you buffoon.
exactly. when i heard that part i was like???? he’s always for the laughs???
For real. Does anyone who's seen the musical actually think George is the villain?
This lady at the end even even called him out on it. I mean honestly could they have found a less qualified dunderhead to do this story?
I thought the same
The male anchor needs to watch the musical. Hamilton does not make fun of the French, it celebrates their support in the Revolutionary War. Lafayette gives a couple of chuckles and King Louis' head has a great quip, but the British, Charles Lee, and Samuel Seabury are the targets.
yeahh charles & sam
wait wHAT DID YOU SAY ABOUT THEM-
Jarrell Dickey thank you! I'm French and I absolutely adore the show. We're really not made fun of, quite the contrary...
Thank you so much for saying that! Lin would never do such a thing EVEN by accident! He is an incredible writer!
‘I don’t get Hamilton being played in Britain. It’s an American play...’ Gosh! You’re right! Music and stories don’t cross boundaries to become universally loved at all! 😂
Yea who is Shakespeare again? 😂
Pumpkin Patch Who is Mozart again?
@@radiantshay2146 😂😂
What's ''Don Quijote''?
Yeah, I don't get it too lol. English is originally from the British but you don't see them complainin' 😂
Yeah, like, wtf is Kpop?
jesus that interviewer was so patronising, how many times did he have to say "this is a play about the winners, you're the losers"...that is not what the play is about. It's about Hamilton, not about the war jesus.
to people like him men are men, women are women, and there are winners and losers, blacks and whites, everything is simplistic dichotomies.
Sore loser
Lol it's not even a play too
This war happened over 200 years ago, so the actors aren't the losers. The reporter is all wrong.
Buga Duga it’s ok to be a sore loser. I understand (well I really don’t bc we won)
The way he talks about Britain enjoying the musical despite losing the war is ironic, given how many Vietnam War movies the US made
hot tea hot tea-
oooof
No one in America cares about Vietnam War. It was a very unpopular war that many people believe we had no business in fighting; which is why so many people burned draft card and escaped to Canada to avoid the draft. We don’t even really talk about in our history classes just gets glossed over.
Syrina Crockett and the revolutionary war isn’t even glossed over, it’s not even mentioned.
Grace Heather good point and hang on rememberd something else not all of them are american because isn't one of them suposed to be from France
I wonder if the reporter would have been that rude to actors of his own age and race. Probably not. Can you see him interviewing a Richard Burton or Lawrence Olivier and saying "you're the losers"?
Maybe he got offended when he mentioned they sounded different off stage and they all said, ‘ Whew! Thank God!’ 😂 Maybe 🤷🏽♀️
@@MaryLou913 I thought they said whew thank god in the context that if they did sound the same on and off then their acting wouldn’t have been very good/convincing
Why do the actors have to explain to the reporter that this play isn't about winners and losers? That's not the theme.
CreamedKitty x its about the American soul and experiance . you can't get that in london
its about Hamilton. Nothing more.
I also loved the reaction of the actress who plays Angelica, she was like, "Oh, so we're the losers? I didn't know that" ;) :D
Brad Murray man i watched the London one it isn’t about the “American soul” it’s about Hamilton
It really pisses me off how the reporter calls it a play, Hamilton is a musical
Lexi Brown Let him be.
technically, STILL. A. PLAY.
Uh, it's a play and a musical. A musical can also be a film.
Bradford73 Aka Brian Bradford. Don’t modulate the key then not debate with me

hi so I wonder how the audience reacts when George iii struts onto the stage during the reynolds pamphlet
Sam Lozada when I went to see it in London, the audience adored King George and when he came back in the Reynolds Pamphlet everyone cheered 🤣
When I saw it he just seems to be there for the drama
I saw it in London and king George was amazing. British people love making fun of ourselves so it went down really well!
It was the greatest thing.
When I saw it everyone in the theatre loved him!
I loved the king george in london he sounded like he was ordering them to sing along rather then asking
King George in the West End Cast was I C O N I C
When I saw it in Colorado, when he went “forever, and ever,” etc, oh the second “and ever” he got this super angry controlling tone, and then went back to this nice sweet tone for the rest of the Evers.
I really wanted to see how would the British version of King George looked like. Did they made him sing the song in a more modest and less funny way?
As an Englishman I can say he was by far the greatest and funniest part of the entire show.
Yeah, the United States is quite off.
Yaiyasmin
Ye i loved KGIII too
I attended this show on 5/10 and it was awesome! There were so many Americans in the audience..."it is less expensive to come over here for a long weekend and see the show than go to New York!" King George was hilarious!
hi quick question did someone,,, lets say "unexpected" come onstage during The Reynold's Pamphlet? if so how did you & the audience react? >:3
I didn't know anything out of "norm". So I would guess they did not.
@@kasakro9829 everyone laughed and cheered, we're not like you think! Haha

Eric Bowers sort of makes sense, though. The American Revolution is just a small drop in the history of Britain, but it's the beginning (and arguably the most important part) of ours.
Though I have to admit the "haha, we won, you lost!!" attitude, THIS long after the fact, is ridiculous x'D

khaza1wolfgurl oh yeah im not denying how vital that was when i got into hamilton i had no idea what was going on because schools here literally just don’t teach about it at all

Brad Murray yeah but you don’t hear so much the same thing when you interview on, say, the great war
but yeah we get what youre saying
I’m not being funny but just because we’re British we feel any different about us ‘loosing’ the war. We’re not bothered, you deserved your freedom but the fact you think we feel different about the show is just absolutely ridiculous. The actors were literally laughing at you and it is just funny you think you’re superior over something that happened years ago. ‘How would a musical about an American victory and British defeat’ ‘this is a play about the winners in the place of the losers’
Lol have you seen it?
“Aaron Burr played by a Londoner”
“Wow how will that work since the character is American?!”
Well the actual Aaron Burr tried to make New England a separate country after failing to become a politician so...

Yeah Fox News is just propaganda
It's not like the real Aaron Burr had an American accent. He was an aristocratic colonial, probably with something close to RP with a mixture of classic Dutch in his accent, and Hamilton probably had some French Creole quirks hidden behind a fake proper colonial New England dialect.
Modern English and modern American (Midwest or New England) accents are equally as foreign compared to the sounds of the 18th century folks. There are recordings of seniors in the late 19th century that might give one the idea of what their more proper grandparents spoke like.
It doesn’t make fun of the French.
An English Rose good point and why can in both of these see a certain french man
"..which the British famously lost" LOL - that may be what 'you' think and maybe you also think the USA is famous for losing the Vietnam war?
Chris Gray We should have went full on into the war or should have not entered it all. It was a huge mistake how the war was handled, but it was an equally huge mistake for how the Soldiers were treated upon returning home. Most were drafted and had no choice, yet they were spit on and treated like garbage when they returned. We also helped win in World War II and without our help, inevitably Britain would have been defeated as they couldn’t hold out forever with no alies

@@christinasamuel3947 yeah, Lafayette helped the Americans. France was on the winning side, they even gifted America the Statue of Liberty
its not about the revolutionary war...it's about the life of Alexander Hamilton.
And yes the war is a part of it..in the first act. But nothing more.
I think what they meant by insulting the French is when G.Washington says “When the French figure out whose gonna lead them”
Christina Samuel what about Lafayette?
Americans: Make Fun of Britain’s casually
Britain’s: Say one thing about Americans
Americans: HOW DARE YOU WE ARE THe BeST shsnmHsmHgdjdmB
I was online at 3:30 am CST to order our tickets when they first went on sale. We loved it! The cast and theater are amazing! I would travel to the UK again to see this cast and show!
The difference is that England has a much longer history than America, so when considering the American war of independence it’s a small event in our history whilst the biggest in there’s. So it is understandable that it can be lost in translation when considering the actual emotions towards ‘winning’ or ‘losing’
WAIT A MINUTE Is Eliza played by rachel ann go?!
joyce chua yep
The reporter was being kinda stupid and trying to be funny, but yeah most people don’t think like that (I don’t know anyone who does) Oh and if it wasn’t obvious enough I’m American
whakabuti well I've seen several comments complaining about obbesion with winning and no obsession with winning so it looks like there is more of an unhealthy obbesion with complaining
whakabuti I think it’s unhealthy that England is so hung up about how we “Are obsessed about winning”. Like you realize that’s not true right 😂.

I really don't understand why the American's think anyone still cares? Like what century does that reporter live in lol
This is not at all a criticism, the cast sounds awesome, but is it just me or do the songs seem a bit "off"? Not bad, just like they've been brought down a pitch or put into a different key maybe? I don't have enough musical knowledge to indentify exactly what it is, but I can notice a difference.
EtherealAstraea Yes! The person who plays Aaron Burr and Hamilton seemed strange.
I think in most musicals, if someone in one of the casts has songs that don't suit their vocal range, particularly with solos, they change the key slightly to accommodate for it.
yeah this is normal! Michael Ball talks about it a lot if you want to hear about it from someone qualified to discuss it hee.
'I don't like that rule' uh maybe because you can afford the ticket low and high...
5:36 “don’t like that rule”; ok, see if you like it when you get ripped off for £3,000.
“There is one slight adjustment in the play here- the character of the British King at the time, George the Third, is played a bit more for laughs- less, perhaps, as a villain.”
Uh.... have you SEEN the American one? Have you even listened to the recording?
Then again, this guy is so American that maybe that came off as a realistic portrayal of Brits.
Hamilton is such a masterpiece💯
Agreed.
Brilliant!
I saw these terrific actors on the west end a couple of days ago and am still out of breathe...it was amazing. there wasn't even a empty chair in the entire place and during the encore there was not a single seat taken with everybody giving a standing ovation.
can we please have a interview with them again with someone who ACTUALLY has listened to the musical and isn’t trying to pick a fight?
I saw the West end production back in January, and the whole cast has since then made it to the cast of my heart. I love them all so much and wish there was an official recording of their version of Hamilton.
Saw it in NYC and I wish I could see it again....anywhere, but especially in London. It's just a great piece of art.

I saw this cast while in London, they were epic! Loved the show so much.
3:30 - literally my reaction. They need a new reporter 🤦♀️😂
I saw Hamilton in London before I saw it in the US and it was amazing. The audience got a KICK out of making fun of the king, just like we get a kick out of making fun of our government.
it takes a lot to have Britain’s perform about a war that they lost...
tbh we don't really care about being called the losers it was ages ago it wouldn't really effect us
Excuse, maybe my english is not good enough, but the play never make fun of the Frenchs.

Ok, but can we talk about how the West End cast's Lafayette/Jefferson is the MASTER OF SASS?
RIGHT???? I loved him as Lafayette but when he played as Jefferson it was utter perfection

I love how much the Americans think we care about losing the revolutionary war.
Many Americans are still highly sensitive about it so they like to mock us for losing , which makes them look rather childish in the process especially when we don’t do the same thing over 1812.

I think everybody is okay apart from the guy who plays Burr

He just seems wrong. It's just my opinion tho
Totally agree, Burr's standby was fantastic
I've seen Giles as Burr three times now and I absolutely LOVE him as Burr. He's amazing!
I honestly have an unhealthy obsession with that Burr
Kind of annoying how the actor that plays Aaron Burr can’t get the high notes on “The Room Where It Happens”. Who agrees?
I don’t know about the high notes, but I really really REALLY like the way he ‘slides’ through the word “ro-oo-oo-oom”
yes its a play about america being better but england dont care anymore about that war we have a different goverment now and everything has changed we're not a hung up on it as america
I love how britan incorporates Asians too!

They need a better reporter , at least one with more manners .
I'm just gonna say it, after watch the play with the original like 10 times... Seeing and hearing this cast just doesn't hit like it should. Not to say they sing or act bad, but it just doesn't.. hit?
If you attended a performance in London are people using phones during the performance as bad as in the US?
Jeep Cherokee When I saw it I didn't notice any phones but I wasn't really looking at the audience
Not in the UK. No way. You'd be bailed from the theatre.
No you’re not allowed to use them or flash photography during performances, if you are spotted by an usher you will be asked to turn it off or to leave
i really want too see the play but i live in Denmark and i don't think its playing anymore if it is can one of you tell me?
*Some random guy walks on stage*

Right there at the end, the guy said that Americans and Brits can join together to make fun of the french(which... yeah), but he said that the show does that... at what point does Hamilton make fun of the French? The one French character is, in my opinion, one of the coolest in the show
Seeing the london caston Saturday
I really don’t get the fascination that this reporter with reminding British people that we lost the American Revolutionary War.
We know. It was also like 250 years ago. No one has a dog in this fight anymore except the US. We find the story of independence of your country just as cool as you probably do.
Don’t forget the people of my country at the time that benefitted from colonialism were a very small part of affluent society. Most of modern British society have no kinship to those who would wanted to have been your colonial masters.
I’m not a loser of a battle that happened to found (at its core) a country that was founded on greater values than my own, but yet follows a similar timeline to the same empire it struggled so righteously to release itself from
I think Rachelle Ann Go was the better Eliza in comparison to the original Phillipa Soo!
Eh. Her voice in Alexander sounds like "sitting in dawown sick, the scent thick”. But it's your opinion
The bit they said at the end about buying tickets and the what if it’s a gift is the problem me and my friend had cause her mum bought the tickets for us...
*Angelica*
We have the best Angelica, but their Angelica is amazing, and she is really slick and smooth with her movements than ours, ours was more stiff, and both had amazing voices.
*Eliza*
Our Eliza suprised me physically and mentally, and blew me away with chills, but their Eliza is amazing, but both have the most amazing voices in the real show, but their Eliza is way better.
*Peggy*
Honestly, what I can think about Pegyy is she is underestimated considering she dies later in the play, that's one of the reasons, but she doesn't die until the close to end last songs, sometime near congratulation, both Peggy's are amazing, but their Peggy shows way more expression.*
*Hamilton*
Although, Lin Manuel created the show, he is not really as much of an actor or singer, he sings good, don't underestimate what I am saying, but their Hamilton guy is a bit better.
*Burr*
Honestly, their Burr sounds quirky and weird, he has a good voice, but he is very tiff in some parts to me, and it confuses me, I haven't seen the play in their country, but from the clips I've seen he looks weird to me, and his singing is eh- our Burr is a bit better than theirs, and shows way more emotion and sings really well.
Soooo you've seen it in London?
Hannah Mowbray Although, I did hear the show was more alive than the original, and seeing this I can agree.
i saw it in london lmao. they were really good but the guy who played hamilton’s accent was really hard to understand. overall it was way more interesting to hear all the different voices instead of what you’re typically used to
This interviewer is mean
I'm seeing it in London in February and I can't wait!
Okay, let’s stop focusing on the reporter...
This cast has some very questionable choices...
What questionable choices
What questionable choices
Let’s admit it nothing can replace the OG cast
they could have tried to at least put on american accents
Maximus it’s seriously not hard to put on an American accent when singing. Even I can do it. They really should’ve tried but it’s still a good cast.
I saw the west end version last month and everyone other than the british characters had perfect american accents, idk why but the footage didn’t really do that much justice
But... The American accent wasn't really that around yet considering it was the 1700s and most had just moved from England to America????
Plus, I don't see how an accent really affects the overall performance. You clearly haven't seen it, so why judge on a few short clips??
I've been living in Asia for over a decade, I LOVE meeting people from the UK the most. Such a great sense of humor, the revolution always pops up and we banter about it. I've been told many times that the Brits are just waiting for an apology and they will take us back 😂😂
Wait !!!! I thought the American actors came to London to do the musical .
I am Dissapointed its not the Americans
shankar reddy why does it matter if it’s Americans? British people can act too...
Usually musicals cast don't cross borders. A classic like Phantom of the Opera would have a cast in France using french actors. Sweden would use Swedish actors, etc. When the Brits write a great musical you would have to travel to England. When the show gets to America it gets a American cast.
The original cast was pure gold, for sure, but this cast looks solid too. :)
There are Equity and American Equity regulations governing American and British casting not to say the substantial costs incurred In accommodating a full cast transfer.
Acturly our dance captian on the west end is origanly from Brodway also forgot Jason Pennycooke `s character on the west end is supposed to be french
The ending of The Room Where It Happens by Giles is absolutely amazing
The UK version is so much better
Sure about that
That's definitely a matter of opinion.
I prefer the US version because Jonathan Groff's voice & face
um no. Just no. the original will always be better.
i don’t see how
