my dad was like "why would you want to go see the show if you already know all the words from listening to the soundtrack 4000 times?" THIS. THIS IS WHY.
the lighting design is amazing also, so don't be upset if you get seats high up because then you will be able to see more of the cool stuff happening on the floor of the stage with lighting
Yet, I saw the show (because I love the songs and the story), but the dance moves were just that, moves for me. I saw literally no meaning in them. Yeah, I am REAAALY bad at seeing hidden meaning in things in general, let alone in dance moves.
I’m supposed to see Hamilton next year in June and we have to sit in the balcony cause we poor 😂 but my cousin saw it a few years ago and she said it was the best thing she’d ever seen
geniuses attract each other--Lin has amazing people around him. Look at some of the Lacamoire videos too. Mind blown. Tommy Kail needs to make some videos!!!
What gets me is how much thought and time goes into 15 seconds of choreography... and then thinking how long the show actually is. Fantastic! Would love to see more break downs of the reasoning behind the moves, especially for those of us who can't see the actual show!!
This guy is such a genius it makes me sick. With so much attention paid to Lin's music and lyrics (deservedly so) it's so awesome to see videos like this and just be reminded once in a while of the genius of Andy, Tommy, and Alex (sorry to use their first names like I know them, I just don't want to misspell their last names) is just so mind blowing. Sometimes thinking about what Andy put together can seem almost more impressive than Lin's work when I think Lin got to write, rewrite, tweak, workshop, all of his brilliant ideas for 7 years and the choreography has to get done how quickly? My god to be a fly on the wall when this creative team is in a room bouncing ideas off each other. That has to just be insane. I love creative masterminds.
have you gotten a chance to see the bandstand pro shot? it had the same choreographer and it blew my mind! i already loved the story and the songs but then to see it with andy's one of a kind choreography. well it was no wonder why he won the Tony for bandstand. this guy is out of this world talented. every time i here him talk my jaw drops
Wondered why despite the leads being spectacular I kept getting "distracted" by the dancers in the background. This explains why. Absolutely amazing. And I'm totally going to use an hour of my life to learn this.
Thank you ... I always find it so fascinating to hear what artist and entrepreneurs are thinking. And with this... each step and gesture has a deeper meaning.... amazing. THANK you! riveting!!
Whenever I watch Hamilton I cannot stop watching the ensemble dance. Oh my gosh they’re so good. The choreography just. I genuinely don’t understand how this man did all of that and made it FLAWLESS.
it can mean both. one of the mysterious things about great art is that sometimes a message comes through that was not consciously intended by the artist but the Higher Inspiration makes sure the underlying meaning comes across
I came in this thinking I could learn the routine easily within 10 minutes. I was wrong. I am 13 and I have been doing hip-hop my whole life yet i've never met a choreographer who actually uses the lyrics to make his moves (apart from lyrical choreographers) and I love how meaningful they are. I am hoping to learn this routine now within a week so hopefully I can! Wish me luck :)
My high school is doing a kind of Hamilton tribute as the finale of our cabaret performance and our choreographer gave us a dumbed down version of this choreography. Knowing the meaning behind the actual moves is really cool!
wow as someone who does not like theatre or dance (except Hamilton) this breakdown added SO much artistically to my understanding of the musical who knew dance could speak so much
We just watched #HamilFilm and we cannot stress enough every little thing in Andy Blankenbuehler's choreography. Just amazing mastery of movement as an art form and as the message.
Having seen the live performance 4 times in San Francisco and now having the ability to replay on Disney+, I am even more amazed by the choreography! I remain mesmerized and vow to learn a few! It's July 7, 2020! Thank you! Thank you!
ok, now we just need this for every second of every song so that 10 years from now when I finally score Hamilton tickets i can stand in the isle and do the moves with the cast
This is amazing. I loved hearing the thought process behind it as even if we never really understood the meaning behind it before. The breadcrumbs were always there. Which is why it looks so great. The choreography is a masterpiece in itself as it been planned and thought to the second.
This is absolutely brilliant! These details always fascinate me and intrigue me. I love finding out new things about something I am obsessed with and seemingly know lot about.
I wish he was facing the mirror and the camera was diagonally behind him! (does that make sense?) It's hard to match this choreo head on without mirroring it. facing the mirror would make it feel more like a choreo rehearsal. Maybe i'm just a bad dancer who's alone in this thinking lmao
Just remember, the dancers do this on either side of Hamilton so there is no "correct" hand to do this with. Look at the Grammy performance for more reference if needed.
I kept on having to pause just to turn around because I got confused when I was first trying to learn it. Now I come back to the video once in a while just to see if I actually remember as much as I thought I did.
Right...This untalented, unathletic piece of flubber that happens to be me is now going to put everything she has into learning 20 seconds of professional hiphop/musical dancing - wish me luck...
Let's be honestly. No matter how much work and time we try to put into learning this dance, we're never gonna be satisfied with its outcome... All well I'll be practicing it anyway.
Hamilton's lyrics are the same - I feel like Lin Manuel really thought about every single word and didn't waste even one; everything had a meaning and made sense in the story.
This and the other video was fascinating! Both so we could learn the backstory behind each move and so that I can possibly learn how to do these two parts of the show!
I Actually loved the moves of the Next verse ... Please explain and demonstrate that one. 59:59 x 1:00:00 (Take the Bullets out your gun as we Move as one) One of the Best Moves .. Jon Rua Mastered that move ..Flawless ..Awesome!!
Meanwhile at our annual Easter play, the “choreographer” is always like....”uhhhh__ You guys stand over there and tap your feet. Try not to bump into each other. Flag ladies... just keep twirling. Don’t stop until the music stops. Everyone else... just clap on the 1 and 3 until you get tired, ok?”
I need an entire documentary on Hamilton's choreography.
Same
same
PLEASE. Then I could learn it all for when I audition one day. :D
My thoughts exactly. 👌

i’m seeing it as soon as broadway reopens, but i watched it like a bajillion times on disney+ lol. still wanna see it in person tho.
He's a genius. Everyone in Hamilton is freaking amazing.
Sofi Nencini ikr
It's true
Okay so EVERYONE behind this project is a genius. Cool. Cool cool cool.
I've been binging community again so I might just have abed in my head. But you are quoting abed right?
+Anna Emiko omg I literally just thought about the exact same thing ahahahha
No doubt. No doubt. No doubt. #99

You want to be in the room where it happens?
(me too)
I agreed with you, buddy 👍🏾

@@hyperfocusworkshop AHAHAHA UNDERRATED COMMENT
We need a breakdown to every single choreography aka all the songs
YES PLEASE, SIGN ME UP
Especially You'll Be Back
It's amazing how you can almost hear the heart beat just by watching their dance moves
The heartbeat TOTALLY makes sense.
Wondered why despite the leads being spectacular I kept getting "distracted" by the dancers in the background. This explains why. Absolutely amazing. And I'm totally going to use an hour of my life to learn this.
I watched this in Buffalo and couldn't figure out what to focus on. It was awe inspiring.
I'm a trained dancer so you can only imagine my eyes going straight to the dancers and their moves according to the lyrics.b
I love how every move means something! It really helps remember the routine as a dancer. Amazing
Thank you ... I always find it so fascinating to hear what artist and entrepreneurs are thinking. And with this... each step and gesture has a deeper meaning.... amazing. THANK you! riveting!!
Mc Kenna ikr same
So much thought has gone into every moment. This is why every component of this musical is magic.
Whenever I watch Hamilton I cannot stop watching the ensemble dance. Oh my gosh they’re so good. The choreography just. I genuinely don’t understand how this man did all of that and made it FLAWLESS.
I love how you can see how much passion and sentiment he puts into his every move 😍😍😍
This is got to be the most mind-blowing breakdown of how choreographers visualize and conceive their next moves to make the total thought complete
Ok I'm gonna start a dance class that only teaches the Hamilton choreography
Who wants to join?
Jadecherry 505 Meeeeee!
Hmu 😂
COUNT ME IN!!!! WHERE?!!!!!!
I'm honestly trying to start a theatre club at my school so I can relate 😂😂😂
That honestly would be amazing.

So I always thought that when they point to their heads and curl during the heartbeat, they were standing like a child in the womb...

have you seen Andy's My Shot video? th-cam.com/video/VmYTsOrnWP0/w-d-xo.html
omg you’re 17 now
yALL but in satisfied and helpless the ballroom dancing in the background is amazing
This makes me miss my dance classes so much!!!!!

wow as someone who does not like theatre or dance (except Hamilton) this breakdown added SO much artistically to my understanding of the musical who knew dance could speak so much
I need to rewatch the musical just for the choreography now
Absolutely brilliant. Everytime I watch the show, I notice more nuances with the choreography. I really appreciate this break down of the steps
We just watched #HamilFilm and we cannot stress enough every little thing in Andy Blankenbuehler's choreography. Just amazing mastery of movement as an art form and as the message.
I really want the choreography for non-stop
now i spend all my free time learning this.
RIGHT. haha hope it went well!
This is so beautiful.
Love the moves and the sound effect he is adding when he shows the moves! Artttt gives me lifeeee
Having seen the live performance 4 times in San Francisco and now having the ability to replay on Disney+, I am even more amazed by the choreography! I remain mesmerized and vow to learn a few! It's July 7, 2020! Thank you! Thank you!
Love seeing this broken down because you don’t realize why it’s powerful when you’re watching it, you just feel it and know that it is!
I would watch an entire documentary on the choreo pls make it happen!!
I wanna know about every single move of every one and what it means. Damn it. Can this be a Netflix show? please?
Wow no wonder I love this show when not only the lyrics and music but the choreography has been thought through so beautifully 😍
Needed this
As an actor I subconsciously took note of everything he was saying and now in watching this once i have completely memorized and perfected the dance
ok, now we just need this for every second of every song so that 10 years from now when I finally score Hamilton tickets i can stand in the isle and do the moves with the cast
It’s amazing that every move is intentional, I stan with the crowd that we need videos like this for every song
I could listen to him all day talking about every move. So, so interesting to hear his ideas.
This is amazing. I loved hearing the thought process behind it as even if we never really understood the meaning behind it before. The breadcrumbs were always there. Which is why it looks so great. The choreography is a masterpiece in itself as it been planned and thought to the second.
I love his constant WHOOMPS and WHAMS
I love that there is a story and meaning behind every move
I want to see how they did the chore for Satisfied with the slow-mo reversal
i love everything about this show so much. there is just so much talent within the cast and crew and im just amazed
I NEED MORE
that's incredible that there's a story behind every move.
My thoughts exactly MC. Fascinating. Made me go back and really watch it.
I'm so learning this, even though I've never done hip hop dancing before and don't really know what I'm doing
This is absolutely brilliant!
These details always fascinate me and intrigue me. I love finding out new things about something I am obsessed with and seemingly know lot about.
I am in love with this choreography. It is a wonderful idea of moves towards the song
Wow. So much thought behind every move! Thank you!

No, I understand. I'm a dancer and I'm having a lot of trouble learning it because of the same reason.
Just remember, the dancers do this on either side of Hamilton so there is no "correct" hand to do this with. Look at the Grammy performance for more reference if needed.
How long would it take professional dancers just to learn this bit? Like after once or twice through do they have it?
I kept on having to pause just to turn around because I got confused when I was first trying to learn it. Now I come back to the video once in a while just to see if I actually remember as much as I thought I did.
I’m not a dancer but when it comes to shows I’m all in XD
Wow I love this! Andy is such a genius. I’ve always been so intrigued by Hamilton’s choreography

Wow, no pensé que le pusieran tanto significado a la coreografía. Todos en el cast de Hamilton son una especie de semidioses ❤️
I wish my teacher would play this smol documentary of choreography of Hamilton.

I tripped two times today and once yesterday over my own toes, I do not understand how these people do this and don't trip once (that I know).
It's amazing how every single movement means something.
Hamilton's lyrics are the same - I feel like Lin Manuel really thought about every single word and didn't waste even one; everything had a meaning and made sense in the story.
YES THANKS YOU FOR BREAKING THIS DOWN FOR ME I NEEDED IT SO MUCH
Just found this and need more
Watching this til I get it
It’s a very choreographer/dancer thing to “whomp” every move haha love it

Andy. Alex. Tommy. Lin-Manuel.
The four geniuses of Broadway.

I had no idea so much thought went into this, bravo.
wow. he's amazing..
I really wish I could dance now.
I always thought dance was cool but I never understood the poetry of their movements. This is amazing.
This helped so much I had to choreograph a broadway musical easily done
