There is some sanctuary in every one of Joel's videos.
Twin Peaks! This guitar sounds incredible
I'm happy I wasn't the only one who recognised it!!!
i dont like so much SG but this sound amazing! and the vintage ulala!
Exactly my thought! Unmistakable resemblance, that song is absolutely unique, one of the best tv show intro ever made..
love it that he lets us hear the tone of the pu`s at a lower volume before he winds it out,,great stuff
The more I listen to Joel playing on different guitars the more I realize it's his playing I like regardless the model.
The ending was...so relaxing. The tone on this guitar is out of this world. 10/10.
this sg is the best sounding and looking i've ever seen!
That is the most beautiful SG ive ever seen, without a doubt. Absolutely gorgeous
Joel wasn't kidding when he said he likes that vibrato... HE LIKES IT A LOT.
ikr
*Jim Carrey voice* He like it A LOT.
Absolutely majestic guitar and one of my favourite players to go with it! Perfection!
You're a gentleman and a scholar.
This guy should release a record of just guitar ambience. His chops are just as enjoyable as those vintage axes.
I bought a 2013 Kirk Douglas signature sg after this video. Closest I can get to something that looks like this guitar. I am just in love with everything about it
that guitar is so beautiful..
Just bought an Alpine White ‘90 SG Custom - just an awesome guitar. Never realized how the thing people complain about with an SG, neck stability/the way it can slightly flex with pressure … makes the SG actually fee alive and an extension of you. More feel and connection… unlike so many guitars that are stiff feeling (like playing a dead log). Playing the SG requires a new sensitivity to how the guitar reacts to your movements (the 3rd pickup also makes you learn a new way to pick too). What a great instrument. Never liked SG’s until now … because I didn’t understand the genius behind them. Almost like there is nothing extra on them… slimmed down and nimble… Sorta like driving a super car vs. muscle car.
What a unique and beautiful guitar....yes that is the Mac Daddy of SG's. More, please.
Where can I just watch Joel play for like an hour or two
You're tearing my heart out! with that intro
Beautiful playing. I'm a sg guy. Right now I only have a newer Gibson sg with mini humbuckers. I was going to change them out, but decided against it. I know I'm blessed to have a good guitar. It has been hard but, every now & then I can get her to sing pretty to me 😁
"Falling" is the theme song, by a band I am sure has faded into the rock & roll ether. It is very cool to include it. He always picks great songs for his demos! Beautiful SG... I don't know why, because a lotta great guys played the custom version (Ollie Halsall, Frampton, some others... maybe?) but I always thought 3 pickups on an SG looks goofy. Not that I don't drool over instruments like this. Who else played a 3 pickup SG?
Why can't you buy it, Joel? Go ahead...treat yourself. You deserve it!
I definitely deserve it. I definitely don't have the money. Such is life.
Joel Bauman Such sad, much sorrow, wow.
I hope you're able to get one of these awesome guitars you demo one day Joel. You da man. 👌🏻
awesone guitar playing, wish the newer generation would forget about their djent and play more like this
I'm amazed that that thing holds tune so well... even with all that tremolo...ing? is that a word?
sounds awesome !!! great clean tone with the amp too . every time I pick up a Gibson I always seem to end up just playing the blues to get the most out of the pickups both clean and driven
Joel is magic
Best looking guitar that exists!
Was waiting for Joel; to say... Hi this "NOT ANDREW" from CME. Today I will demoing this awesome SG.
Never. I run this shizz.
Joel Bauman Easy Batman. On a serious note really enjoy your reviews
My dream guitar!
@ 3:10 the feeling I have in every guitar store because im broke
Me too, lol
Me three.
Me four
Me five
Me six
Some honestly nice playing here mate
I am seriously in love with that tone. It does not sound like SG at all! What is the secret to this perfect crystal twang? PAF pickups I guess?
Actually those would be T Top pickups in the 69. Bright pickups but also bright amp.
Some people claim SGs with pickups mounted in pickguard (like a strat) as opposed to mounted in rings on the wood (like a les paul or regular SG) have more twang / less snarl (that archetypal Gibson sound). I don't know if it's true. Gibson keeps switching pickguard styles on SGs every few years so who knows. It does sound awesome.
Daniel Nance I think the ebony fretboard is maybe the biggest factor in that crystalline tone -- along with the pickups of course. And on another note, god that twin peaks theme brings back memories!
Joe Madden Fretboard physically can not be the biggest factor in any sound. I'm not saying it does not affect the tone at all, but it definitely can not influence such a drastical tone change. It is obvious to anybody who played Les Pauls with rosewood, ebony and richlite - the difference really is mostly cosmetical.
+Mykyta Panarin Probably the fretboard doesn't affect the sound at all!
Yeah man you're a very talented guitarist. I want to start to pick up some of that style, it's very beautiful.
Twin Peaks? I love it!
Back in 1980 or 81 I was interested in learning to play. I had a friend who played so he says "let's go find you a guitar". At the time AC/DC ruled my world. So here we are, my friend and I, in an out of town pawn shop and there on the wall is a 1969 SG Custom, exactly like the one in this video. I don't know man, that's a lot of money. Friend says buy it! So I did. The price? $375.00 out the door
You must be the luckiest guy on the planet
This made me cry
Do I hear a little bit of Twin Peaks inspired riffage? SGs Rule! \m/. .\m/
Very nice! The sound is Beautiful and so nice the filmage :)
I got this exact guitar❤️ What a beauty !
for how much?
Love at first sight
I've wanted one of these ever since I watched Hendrix in Sweden 1969 play Redhouse on TH-cam
That is just insane.
I zoned out listening to his paying. The video ended and i was so calm it took me a minute before i snapped back. lol That amp is beautiful btw never heard of that company gonna chec em out now.
Marco Resendez divided by 13, oh yeah, the guy started out repairing and making amps ,i think the first was for the guitarist for paul McCartney's touring band, this was like 10yrs ago
Joel Bauman, please use loop pedals more! The e-bow video, the jim ramage,… very inspiring stuff. And you playing Debussy made me want to buy an SG.
is the first riff the Twin peaks theme? if yes, do I win this beautiful guitar?
It wasn't on purpose, but in hindsight it definitely sounds like the Twin Peaks theme. At least the first part of it.
Beautiful tone ;-)
Joel, I LOVE LOVE SGs TOO!!! Was my first REAL GUITAR, REALLY Digging this 69 Custom as well. Never had one of those in my hands, how do you feel about Les Paul Jr's and Melody Makers? Love the way the P90s Drilled into a Slab of Mahogany Sound, ESPECIALLY THE SINGLE PICKUP! Anyways Love your Demos and Decided to SUBSCRIBE......🎸💚
Basically, Gibson's Stratocaster.. Double cut, big pickguard, 3 pickups, tremolo arm... Nice
@@vandal_dk I meant the amount of pickup wise, not the type of the pickups.. Lol...
that intro riff sounds suspiciously like the Twin Peaks theme.
If my memory dont fall, this guitar was the first guitar of James Hetfield, nice playing! :D
Close, but his was a standard, this is a custom.
All I could hear in that intro at first was final fantasy 7
WOW.
I soo need a tutorial on the Twin peaks intro right there
Must be brand new strings. The tone has quite a clean bite.
Microphonic pickups. These pre-date wax potting. Won't like gain much but imho they sound so cool. Even with gain. You just need to ride the edge of feedback like that dude in Point Break.
I meant to say I do like it tho....everything....the store the axe the reviews..the killer amp
I know this is an old video.. but strange question, is there any chance of having the twin peaks part on a loop for 10 hours?.. I think I could fall asleep to this :)
ROCK ON
Cream pickguard or parchment?
nice
Hot guitar..... a real beauty
Im assuming this is a bright amp cause this sounds bright. Does the ebony fretboard make SGs that much brighter? I have an SG standard with rosewood but the rosewood is so dark it looks like ebony. Its an awesome contrast cause my SG is white.
Dreamt 😢
You can't fool us! That was Twin Peaks 😝
holy crap that gretsch amp in the background is huge... what is that model, and do you have a demo of it? (i presume it's a bass amp, and i feel sorry for whomever had to haul that thing around back in the day...)
love it
Twin peaks at the beginning?
I made a replica of this after seen this video ahaha
Can I borrow this guitar? I'll give it back in about 3 years, promise!
kinda reminds me of the Kirk Douglas sg
Calvin D captain kirk Douglas? the roots, nice
I'm in love with this guitar but it's too expensive.
Is there any reissue? at least with the same colors?
+Maafa 1619 That's the bad thing. Instead of Gibson is CAPTAIN.
Really? awesome then.
Twin Peaks?
she is perfect
that chord progression he plays in the beginning, is that from a song or just improv?
JayOneAlumni its the soundtrack of the tv series twin peaks
whats that song in the beginning
It's a variation on the Twin Peaks theme I believe.
Gerry Leonards guitar :)
Just like Terry Kath's!
How much did this sell for?
Thought he was playing twin peaks at the beginning there haha
slacks he was
I dont think SGs are very good lookin guitars but damn thats a sexy axe. Bit like a when u see a women whos technically ugly but theres somethin about them that is hot.
Great guitar. Looks like the basis for the 2013 Captain Kirk.
So...you get neck, middle, or all 3 pickups. No bridge/neck.
neck, middle + bridge, bridge 2:15
So this is a divided by 13 huh......sounds like a super.....with cool colour tho
So ugly it's beautiful 😍
Looks like the Kirk Douglas sg custom
Justin Vernon
Little too jangley. I don't hear the wood.
james madison " Hear the wood"???
? I thought we heard the pickups...
Pistachio green? That's sea-foam for sure!
james hetfield's first guitar
Vibrola best ???? Um ok
Beautiful guitar but ugly amp.
