The second verse hits so damn hard! "They told me all of my cages were mental So I got wasted like all my potential And my words shoot to kill when I'm mad I have a lot of regrets about that I was so ahead of the curve, the curve became a sphere Fell behind all my classmates, and I ended up here Pouring out my heart to a stranger But I didn't pour the whiskey"
He's Jack Antonoff, her longtime collaborator and producer. He has a lot of mental health issues he's discussed. She maybe struggles (seemingly from multiple songs from when she first put out Tied Together With a Smile when she was 16 on through Midnights) with depression, body image issues, self doubt/self hate. If you've never heard Tied Together With a Smile, do listen. It saved me at 16 (She and I are the same age and I've listened to her since she first came out). For 'didn't pour the whiskey" to me imo is that they have a problem with sobriety and they were close to relapsing... they were sad and pouring out their heart but they didn't take the step of pouring a drink... they stayed sober... and they're wanting to tell the person that they did that... they accomplished being sad without pouring the whiskey.
That’s actually Aaron Dessner in the beginning and playing the instruments in this song. This whole set is on Disney+ Taylor Swift: Long Pond Studios. I’m sure it’s on TH-cam by now, though. That’s actually Aaron Dessner in the beginning and playing the piano. Jack Antonoff is playing the guitar. Both men are just SO TALENTED! This whole set is on Disney+ Taylor Swift: Long Pond Studios. I’m sure it’s on TH-cam by now, though.
This is one that hits pretty hard, it's so honest and vulnerable. When she says, 'pouring out my heart to a stranger, but I didn't pour the whiskey'- what they were talking about at the beginning of feeling like you're trying your best but still seeming like a mess to everyone around you, that line hits hard for me- from the outside it probably seems like someone sitting in a bar pouring out their heart to a stranger is someone whose life is in shambles, but the fact that they did that rather than have a drink (but I didn't pour the whiskey), is probably a huge accomplishment for them. This song just reminds me to be a bit kinder to people around me, we're all really just trying our best out here :).
Thank you for this. It makes you think about how one can deal with addiction. You may think they're not trying but for them it may be the best they can do on that day. Its such a powerful video and hard to talk about. But I guarantee you that most everyone knows someone struggling on a daily basis. ❤
Great reaction, this song really does hit hard. For the Folklore: The Pond Studio Sessions they showed clips of Taylor and her collaborators Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner discussing most of the songs before they played them. It was really great getting to hear their thoughts on the songs. You would probably enjoy those discussions.
Great reaction! And this is Me trying....not to cry.. cause thats the greatness of Taylor....if you want to take lessons of Dance or Hear Voices on old Vegas neon streets, you have choices... but No One cuts You through your ❤ and Soul Like Taylor Swift
I believe the alcoholic may be in AA pouring their heart out to strangers as they have struggled with sobriety and saying, “This is me trying”. This sing is very beautiful and haunting, every one of us has or knows someone (or ourselves) who have struggled with depression & other mental illnesses, not feeling like they’re good enough, not feeling self worth but never giving up. 💔❤️💔🥺
Thanks for another TSwift reaction. BTW, you might want to pay attention to your sound levels. I had to turn the volume up high to hear your voice (and then turn it down to avoid getting blasted by other parts of the video). Also, for people who are relatively new to your channel, you might want to always give a quick recap of your "journey" with Taylor Swift. Just 3 or 4 sentences about when/why you started listening to her, what was your general impression of her before you started, and which songs changed your perspective on her, etc. With most reactions, you might also want to mention something related to any recent news (since there is never-ending news about Taylor). These evolving tid-bits of commentary will tend to keep the interest of swifties who, it seems, can never get enough Taylor content. And don't be afraid to be honest about any no-so-positive feelings or thoughts you have about Taylor. I know that swifties are notorious for being sensitive to attacks but if you are simply being honest and respectful, your critical comments can inspire swifties to comment and, perhaps, suggest songs or videos to address your negative feelings (and thereby keep them engaged and wanting to keep coming back to see your reactions). Perhaps this applies to all fan bases, but it certainly applies to swifties.
She is talking about when your speaking at a Alcoholic Anonymous meeting in the second verse when she said pouring out her heart but she didn't pour the whiskey.
If anything, this seems like a reason not to give "gold stars" for everything in childhood just to reach the real world and be in immediate withdrawal.
@odile8701 You challenge children to develop positive growth. They become stronger and more resilient to face a world that is unpredictable and can not be controlled or sanitized.
I'm so impressed with this empathetic compassionate young woman! This is an example of thoughts of good people.
If people who complain about her Albums of the Year ever listened to her Albums they'd get it. Her music has substance.
Beautiful.. Folklore is a must ❤
She really nailed the essence of addiction, and how hard it is to not pour the whisky when all you want to do is pour it.
I’ve never been touched more.
You’re correct, the conversation on the lawn made it even more so.
I’m trying and I’m crying!
The second verse hits so damn hard!
"They told me all of my cages were mental

Really appreciate you putting the video full screen and yourself in the corner, makes the whole experience better for me 👏🏻👏🏻😻😊

she spoke to my soul on this one. damn what a song.

So make childhood harder, instead of the rest of life kinder?
