Easily my most listened to artist of the last 5 years. KV is just unreal. Found him in 2011/12 and the streak of albums he has put out in that decade......they will be with me for life.....i NEVER tire of them or his catalog. This is so fantastic, this cover is new to me, but exactly as you'd imagine it.
You can't dislike this guy.. I mean he really seems like he is having fun doing what he does. I just wanna pick up my guitar everytime I listen to this guy! Thanks btw for covering the legend!
Kurt really has SUCH unique guitar picking style. Like as soon as he stated up it sounded SO Kurt Vile instantly even though it was his take on such a classic Petty tune.
Kurt Vile is a pretentious, talentless, sack of shit, he destroys Tom petty’s great song, it seems all you guys are watching too much brokeback mountain and getting too much off on mr Vile in a certain kinda way
im 43 and grew up listening to and was lucky enough to see Tom Petty and THB several times, this fucking sounds great. he and mike and the rest of the band would approve im sure.
I heard this on my trip back to horrible Texas from Colorado and completely fell in love with the world of Kurt Vile. This was only a few days ago and it's kind of mind blowing to see all of his works that completely went under my radar. Thank you Kurt for doing what you do and for reigniting some sort of inspiration in me. You have taken a great song and actually added so much to it. This so warm and has something magical that I can't put my finger on. This is how any cover should be, or else it is better off destroyed!
When I've listened to Kurt do a song like "I'm an Outlaw," I've always thought vocally, he reminded me of an indie-rock Tom Petty. When I actually hear him do a Petty song, I hear the similarities less, but I appreciate it just the same. Talented dude 👏
I was once told by a very wise man, " if you ain't got nothing nice to say it's better not to say anything at all " because when you say dumb things, you look dumb.... f ing awesome music, I love this dude !
I agree that most people are dumb and say dumb things, but art critics are just as important as the artists. Everyone should be playing both roles as much as possible without shame or apprehension. As we contribute more and more to this process, we grow as individuals and press humanity to new grounds. Imagine if everyone actually listened to this advice throughout history.
I don't know much of his stuff, but love this. In addition to the Neil Young that people are hearing...does anyone else get a bit a Lou Reed vibe as well? I hear both, yet it manages to sound completely original at the same time. Great take
Amazing cover! Kurt Vile is a storyteller much like Tom Petty. Would have been excellent to have seen them collaborate. Oh well. This is the next best thing.
This song officially "Violated!" What a great musician. KV you are an artist that is few and far between. Keep on being true! "Coming down....is the hardest thing."
If he had done a carbon copy cover y’all would be bitching about the unoriginality of current artists. Kurt does a completely original cover and y’all bitching about that. I guess that’s why he’s making a living playing music and y’all are sitting behind your computer screens.
Well I've scrolled down a page or two and I don't know if I missed something, but nobody's bitching... apart (perhaps) from yourself. I mean that in a nice, non-bitchy kind of way etc.
I think Kurt did this cover on xmu the same week that Shooter Jennings played Kurt's Bassackwards on his show on Outlaw country. Def some connections between some of the popular xmu artists and the older stuff on Outlaw that isn't straight country - Bruce, Neil, Tom Petty, etc.
This sounds exactly like Kurt Vile covering Tom Petty and that works for me.
That's fuckin right my man
Well put.

First time discovering "Wakin On A Pretty Daze" is a damn, magical moment.
A unique artist with a sound and a style all of his own, the wonderful Kurt Vile.
I think Tom would love this.
The way he bounces the high note off nearly every other note when he solos is amazing. Has his own style completely he’s great
You can't dislike this guy.. I mean he really seems like he is having fun doing what he does. I just wanna pick up my guitar everytime I listen to this guy! Thanks btw for covering the legend!
I honestly think he goes right over most people's heads.
Pompous hippy junkie trying be cool, doesn’t work for me, he butchers everything he touches
@@andtothewestamerica This one goes right over my head. What am I missing?
Jerry Athena’s Why are even in here, pathetic.
@@jerryathenas2122 Your opinion is subjective, which only makes sense to you. Dont poison your ppls taste, just because your isnt positive
He Kurt Viled the shit out of that Tom Petty song... nice.
This is my favorite youtube comment. Well done, sir.
KV’d for sure! 🙏🎶
he Kurt'd the fuck outta that chunky solo at the end
Haha yes he did
Wonder what the late Tom Petty would think of this cover of his.
this is the most beautiful song intro i've ever heard in my life and that is zero exaggeration...
kurt is a pure artist
Kurt really has SUCH unique guitar picking style. Like as soon as he stated up it sounded SO Kurt Vile instantly even though it was his take on such a classic Petty tune.
He started on the banjo.. changed his life I’ve heard him say
Never realized how many common KV themes this song has. Flying, coming down, clouds, etc. What a perfect cover!
Kurt is pretty great 👍. Love his voice and whole vibe. Hero artist . Glad he is finally getting recognition

Absolutely hands down my favourite artist ever. KV is musical God.

That was just excellent-he plays a real nice guitar and has a voice to boot. Thoroughly enjoyed
it.

"THE WORLD OF KURT VILE"
@@Berus7777 yep, the world of kurt vile.. Feel free to expound
I've recently discovered him too. It's been quite the experience.
@William Lewis your attitude is just as bad.
This extremists maggot destroys Tom Petty’s great song, and if you don’t like Texas get the fuck out of there
Amazing, Kurt. Such unique style, voice, mannerisms, picking. You’re one of my favorites.

I have quickly and deeply fallen in love with Kurt Vile's music. Looking forward to much, much more. Like this.
Classy tribute. Wow. He is unique.
I clicked like before I even heard it. I hope Kurt covers Neil Young next.
DeeDees Defiance when when when?!?!
yessssss....this!
I concur totally
He rocks that Mushroom print shirt in Loading Zones as well as a bad ass Beatles t-shirt. Man I love this dude.
Pretty Pimpin' !
Love Tom Petty ... love Kurt ... great cover with an original twist. Enough said.
what a cool and distinctive voice. love the little yelp he does
I love his voice and his unique guitar play.
Tom would be happy with this. Great work Kurt.
Hey Kurt, we're enjoying the ride along your path, in your world. BTW, it was great to see you in concert the other night near Lyon in France.

@William Lewis is it you again? You hypocritical Texas worshipper, what do you know about philosophy!? LOL

As a guitarist I find a new kind of inspiration from Kurt Vile. He is playing some next level stuff for sure.
I really love Kurt Vile, when I'm high.
Thank you so much, Kurt. Tom is a genius and so are you. ✌🏻
Nice job Kurt.
He is so awesome! Saw him live recently one of the best musicians I have ever experienced live.
Tom Petty is my favorite artist of all time, and I like Kurt’s version. Sorry people.
haha hey timmy
Goldenspur yoooooo!
AlternateJunkie never say your sorry to the sorry bastards. Cheers
He is my favorite too i saw him 4 times live, but theres nothing wrong with Kurt lol.
That's awesome. I agree with no apologies. Piss on the critics. Open minds change society. Stay true. Stay Vile....
Now this is how covers should be done , your own way , gosh this is so good !
I dont normally comment on videos but i love it! Every little detail has a Kurt spin.
He is such a guitarist. And I love this...

@@SimonRobeyns in the phrases where it is almost spoken word. It definitely has a Lou vibe.

Bought his last two albums. This guy is awesome
Joey Freedom I bought all his albums :D
I really like this cover! It sounds like a Kurt Vile Song. Talk about making a song your own! He owned it and plays brilliantly!
I like the "Ain't got wings no-oo" and "coming Down-wown"
KV’s signature sound 💟
Love this so much. My goodness
I thought this was awesome! I'm on board with you Kurt!
What a genius Kurt Vile !
Great cover, I became addicted for long
Great cover!
That pure guitar. So refreshing.
Really put his personal stamp on it! Apparently playing Learning to Fly is the hardest thing.
Kurt put his own stamp on this classic song pretty dam good in my humble opinion!
Perfection don't exist - just put his beautifull human being in this great song, that's the real hommage.
Very good indeed!👏
I knew you had it in you to be better then the rest, just knew it was sitting waiting to burst out!
Solid guitar solo
Kurt never ceases to impress!
In many ways, this is a song Petty wrote about manic depression. Kurt is the best. Love this cover!
This is so perfect.
Kurt is just an incredible genius, period.
I dig it. Dude put his emotion in it.
Awesome guitar playing! Vile is the real deal
Talented dude total respect
FAAK YES KURT! do your thing brother, that's what it's alllll about! The best version of everything is YOUR OWN PERSONAL VERSION!

He's got the lyrics written on the microphone
Fantastic!
Love you, Kurt.

I agree with you Ian. He was paying tribute to a great artist in his own way. R.I.P Tom. & Play On Kurt Vile.
Have you ever heard the original? He just did an acoustic cover of it using a looper. Not bad, but far from "completely original."
Would love to hear Courtney join in
Totally clicked on this thinking it was Floyd's "Learning to Fly". Still pretty cool.
Realy cool man😎👍
Brilliant.
Makes me sad to hear this song. Thanks kurt great great cover
Unique
He can play a guitar.
Some day life Will beat you down..
just excellent
Brilliant
2:18 His guitar solo style reminds me of Willie Nelson's. Kinda plucky, interesting unorthodox timing, but it has so much character and works nicely.
Good on KV for close micing that Martin.
