I will never get over the fact that you can charge the dolphins at quite literally any point in the game. Because of this, my favorite thing to do with May just to meme is to charge the dolphin *during the countdown* so the first thing my opponent hears frame 1 of the round starting is “TOTSUGEKIIIIIII”.
How to play May: End every combo string with Totusgeki
And every totsugeki with a totsugeki
Also begin every combo with a Totsugeki.
And after the second totusgeki a VERTICAL totusgeki
everything starts, progresses and ends with totsugeki

This video has taught me that I'm still too much of a beginner to know what "this combo" or "this combo" (different one, but same name^^) is just by seeing it executed. xD

This video helped me so much with May! This is my first Guilty Gear game to actually have people to play with and after sitting for 2 hours watching the video soaking everything in like a sponge i feel more confident to play her how she was intended
4:45 May's dust actually IS start of the round. Makes for a very good punish on hard reads if your opponent likes to crouch block at the start.
EDIT: after some further testing, May's dust IS start of the round, but it doesn't work on every character. Here's the list of characters it works on:
Sol, Chipp (looks really jank), Potemkin, Faust, Zato, Ramlethal, Leo, Nagoriyuki, Giovanna (also very jank)
So just over half the cast. It's so fun to notice an opponent crouching at round start and hard punishing them with a dust combo, please try this if you play May and notice it.

At 7:03 you can get more damage by doing c. S, 2HS, [2]8HS, super

if you have an opponent blocking on the corner you can go for a prc on a dolphin and command grab, it's a nice little trick that i usually do

Not sure what most combos are, such as corner or after throw>RC or OHK, but looked up some stuff on Dustloop wiki.
Really good guide. Two questions; what is May's best meaty option? Also, is there a consistent way to get Mr. Yamada to cross up? I've done it half a dozen times now where the super comes out as I'm changing sides and hits the opponent in the back.
I'm not sure of anyone else has found this but you can also Armour through a lot of projectiles with her forward punch, ive had games where I just straight beat out some of kys supers by running up and forward punching to finish off a low ky, not sure of anyone else has similar experience with this or not (just to be clear it's also works with a lot of different moves its easiest to replicate with a ky super)

The only thing I would add is sometimes it’s worth not RCing after a 3K because the knockdown leads to good mixups. You want to always take advantage of knockdowns because her throw game and jump ins are so good. Mix that with run in combo strings and most people will just start panic DPing on every knockdown, and that’s if they have a DP. Characters without reversals are screwed. Also most people are not punishing 3K even on 10f.

It’s worth noting that while hs.dolphin>s.dolphin is a frame trap, knowing that isn’t worth a lot above low level play because a frame trap isn’t worth anything unless you tell players what you would do off a hs.dolphin that would make them push a button for the frame trap to hit the next time

Wait, did you use R2 for Roman Cancel??? Is it set up like that by default or do I need to manually set it up? That would make Roman Cancel combos so much easier instead of pressing 3 attack buttons

Got a great beginner guide on running mix ups and a highly applicable bnb 9/10 wud watch agen (and will cuz i forgot everything already loool)

2 questions:
I can't get the combo at 6:38. To my understanding, he's doing a 4S after he hits the ground, which is the same move as 5S but allows him to charge mr dolphin. Is that correct? When I try, he falls and hits the ground before the second mr dolphin hits so he doesn't break the wall even though all the moves hit.
Second, why does he consistently use duster to break him through the wall? Is it the most damage? I would think HS would deal more and I think you have time to get it off
I’m having trouble with the bread and butter combo after the down hs and I Charge up my dolphin it won’t hit
So I get the the opponent in the corner, do my 50/50 combo, he blocks all of 'em, what's next? Do the combo again?
And what if he jumped? What do I do to jumping opponent? If I have a shoryuken I could knock him off, but I don't, or do I have to use the horizontal dolphin?
And what do I do when I'm cornered? Should I mash jab? I'd exdp if I'm playing SFV
For the 50/50 … I keep getting hit when the projectile is coming out . Do I need to Roman cancel right after or is my timing off ?

Hello guys I have a problem playing as may: When I try to use totsugeki as a combo ender, its just impossible. I need to charge back for atleast a second or two before I can execute the move. So how can i try to do it while comboing without breaking the flow? I hope you understand what I am trying to say. I use a controller btw

I'm new to fighting games. On a ps4 controller should I be using the stick or dpad? When I try stick i end up jumping over and over on accident but on dpad i can never get dolphin to come out.
most people use the d-pad, if you're having input trouble you want to go into training and watch your inputs to see what's happening, i would guess you're releasing the back button too quickly but yeah. Stick can be ok but I would say learning d-pad is the way to go, especially because there are advantages the d-pad has over even an arcade stick and you're not taking advantage of that if you use the stick.

i personally use both, i only use the D-pad for charging dolphin and dash

Hey so I'm a big fighting game fan. I didn't play alotta MKs but I always loved watching your breakdowns about virtually everything in MK11. I played a GG once like ten years ago and my buddy said "Use May, since you're a charge character player in SF" I played one day with her and he was shocked at how natural I was with her. Sorry I'm trailing off, what I wanted to say is that I picked strive up and of course picked May. I just peed a lil when I saw that you're doing a video covering May. You have some of THE most thorough break downs and very well constructed videos I've ever seen. THANK YOU! I've been subscribed to you on my other account for quite some time. Anyway man I just wanted to show some support! Keep it up!

I've been practicing in training mode recently and while I was trying the overhead wall break combo, half the time it just drops the person after I land the full combo instead of putting the person into the position where I could dust and wall break. Any idea why this happens? I can upload a video if you need to see it.

I just started picking up may because I was stressing a lil too much with my mains (nagoryuki and pot) because at least for me they are quite intense, and some matchups are really stressfull if I get behind.
But playing may is just fun, her combos and gameplan is easy and adaptable to most matchups and her combos arent too hard. Thank you for this condensed yet insightful guide for a beginner may player like me :)

Forward + light can get people off you since her punch has an I frame
6p is only upper body invul, but nonetheless, it's still a good move to counter poke and anti-air.
