Pv narsimharao and Manmohan Singh build modern India.. But nobody in India recognise it
Narsimah Rao as PM had a major role in Globalisation and liberalisation than Mr Manmohan Singh. He was captaining the ship then. He gave free hand .
Congress never admit it ; they just glorify Mr Singh .
Rao was more of a right wing guy then Congress men.

It would have been a better quote than gawaskar's ,in context of Advani retiring too late.

Advani didn't divide the nation infact he tried to unite the fragmented Hindu community. I would say he is the face of unification of Hindus which is much needed to stop the caste system and tackle problems of another scale.

It was the " Ramayan " serial on the TV, which gave impetus to the Ayodhya movement. Hindus have to be quietly assertive. A growing economy wedded to a Hindutva ideology can make India very tall and very erect.
I dislike Indian history under Muslim rulers and I am going to stay that way. Hinduism does not dictate religious laws and fully supports secularism.
I wish these boring journalists do a story on Pakistan's troubles with secularism - how the Punjab governor Salman Taseer of the PPP was shot by Mumtaz Qadri for advocating secularism. These compare and contrast stories throw up startling insights. Do it, Sekhar Gupta?

I personally don't think that it was Mr.L.K.Advani who divided India, it is divided since the Mugals invaded India what he did is just to bring out the hidden feeling which most of the hindus were feeling to the public platform.
Advani's divisive politics is nowhere near what Jinnah did.
I hope he gives his valedictory speech. It will be very interesting to know what he thinks now about India, BJP, Congress, etc
Advani was unfairly demonised by the lutyens ecosystem as was Modi, rajiv Gandhi was only criticised mildly that too episodically for the 1984 pogrom by this same group compared to Advani's sustained demonisation

Sir, in this worst time of Indian Media you are possibly the only journalist of acclaim who has still not forgotten the basics of journalism that is honesty n neutrality. Apart from you, in Indian media today, everybody seems to have a specific agenda. Journalists of all hues, it appears, have turned more into a propagandist with the sole aim to advance a certain propaganda. It gives me a huge sigh of relief that we still have people like you who, despite all temptations, are true to their profession and responsibility towards the masses.
Sir, I've been a huge admirer of urs since my college days and I continue to be so. During my college days I used to follow many journalists and their works. They would inspire me by their sheer dedication towards the profession. But today it feels sad that most of those journalists have turned into the spokesperson either of Party A or Party B. This is largely the state of Indian media today and I must say that if people like me still believe in the idea of free n fair journalism, we owe it to you n your kind of journos.

Shekarji your past explanation and recording of the Indian politics is very informative and also very useful to a student of Indian foreign affairs and politics. However can you give us some light on our present and future politics, So like who are true nationalist leaders amongst today’s politicians who can lead India into the future as we need India to be A tough nation but also a united nation that believes in peace and progress amongst itself and with all its neighbours. May be a new young Modi who is very much a believer of a united and progressive India in all fields of education, sports, business and industry etc etc.
ummm :-) Didn't Mandal word come out even if he didn't want :-). Advani used Mandhir to counter Mandal divide. First division was done by VP Singh, the second division (the successful one) was done by Advani. So he is not the only dividing figure - there were many - he is the successful one.

Shekhar, advani has said in rahul kanwal's interview that he didn't push back strongly against calls for Modi to resign. It was suggested modi should atleast offer to resign which he did but was rejected by the party's national council.

If u believe the parties they belong to are corrupt then u can't survive without being corrupt urself. At the very least they are complicit as they surely are overlooking the corrupt practises their respective party members are engaged in. So I don't believe any politician is above corruption.

Sirji, concerning the terrific alarm you've raised sounds a imminent danger.
When I retired in 2002, the meagre amount, even compared to situation then, was invested in GOI tax free 9% pa bonds which means that my ROI was a wee bit more than my last drawn salary. The point was because of that I was comfortable for just , 5 years till they removed it.
My question is why does all the ruling dispensation are becoming rapacious and insensitive to the vulnerable segments like the old, infirm , women , children, farmers and last but not the least the army's needs and hobnobbing with and being hand in glove with robber barons for whom 3 fold ROI is God but not the tears of their motherland. There are many Arab pathis who are contrarian to this attitude though too but their's munificence is not recognised.
L k Advaniji was rejected by the people of India in 2009 as the PM candidate. Modi worked as hard as he could in 2009 elections. After losing if Advani had realised that his time was gone and had gracefully agreed to the candidature of Modiji for PM in 2013 Goa convention he would have retained the respect of many. Instead he behaved like someone who was after the chair forgetting about ideology, party and the Indian people. Advaniji's character putting his self interest above everything was seriously exposed. The final ignominy was getting booed by the crowds in Delhi when he went to a kabaddi league match with no one wanting to listen to what he had to say. Sad indeed.

People like Shekhar Gupta cant understand why people who dream of & believe in Akhand Bhaarat take some decisions thinking about Akhand Bhaarat in mind. For example:
1. I believe that Advani ji wanted to become prime minister not out of personal desire, it was more out of representing India by somebody who was born in Sindh which is Mr. Advani himself.
2. Advani ji wasnt supporting nuclear deal in 2009 because this has been the stand of BJP government since 1998. So Shekhar Gupta is wrong that Advani ji out of the desperation to become prime minister in 2009 didnt want to support nuclear deal.
He is is a sindhi, never took up the cause of Hindus who are facing persecution and still come here. He himself came here during partition. He must know what it was like. All he did was created more decisiveness. How can you celebrate such a person
