Thank you for this wonderful video. I could not get CarPlay on my screen ... went to 2 separate Verizon shops. They had no idea how to pair my cell with my Audio. I watched your video and presto CarPlay is now working in my car. Easy to follow instructions.
Just a small note, SIRI has to be active otherwise Apple carplay won't start. The car won't recognize the phone. Thanks for the video.

Can I use CarPlay without cable? I manage to pair it and it’s working fine, but I don’t want that cable hanging around all the time.
2020 and newer is wireless, you can buy a wireless adapter for these on amazon

Yes! I've done so countless times. Make sure Carplay is connected and working, switch the MMI to radio or other source and then click menu and scroll back to carplay to get it back on the screen. or you can also change the audio source on the steering wheel.

Seems so archaic that a 2018 car requires a wired connection for Car Play.
My 2017 Q7 Premium doesn’t have an “Audi smartphone” option. Only “Bluetooth” & “Bluetooth Audio Player”.
How do you activate the digital speedometer?
Just use the two arrows on the left of the steering wheel he mentions at 5:39 and go to the leftmost tab (it says "380 mi" on this video). Then use the little wheel below those arrows to switch between views. I believe the speedo is second from the top.

you can upgrade by buying the mod directly from audi, its not cheap tho, its arround 700 (350 mod + 350 hand work)

Wasted 45 minutes minutes. Either national car rental disabled it or Audi charges extra 🤔 . So annoying that Apple car play or Android auto isn't standard by now

Depends if the option was bought. You can go to Audi Dealership and tell them to install the software for your MMI Phone Interface. It usually costs between 350-450 dollars depending on the country.

I have a A4 B9 From 2018. I only have one USB Connection under the Hand lean but it says for charging only. Any ideas? I habe MMI plus should/can i Upgrade this as well? Inhaber No nav and small screen. (Germany though)

I have an Audi A4 2018 with the Charge Only USB too. After researching for one month I found out the infotainment system doesn't support Apple Carplay. To have it, the MMI unit and the USB module under the armrest need to be replaced. The guy I talked to told me to change the screen to 8,25" as well, I don't know why. After doing this need a software update and coding too. After doing these steps, the Apple Carplay can be used with cable.
But I changed my direction. I found a company located in china, Road Top, and bought the Carplay module, they sent it from Germany to Sweden. One-hour installation and I am now using Carplay as wireless without a problem.

All of the B9 Audis (2017+ A4, 2018+ Q5, A5) will all have Android Auto in the USA. If you are from outside the USA please contact your local Audi dealership to confirm android auto availability.

Farhad Ahmadzai You cannot have the phone connected to both Bluetooth and Audi Smartphone. Try unchecking it where it says Bluetooth in the connection manager and then you should be able to connect via Carplay under Audi Smartphone.

Mine has the same issue but even when I uncheck it it just disconnects Bluetooth but doesn’t connect “audi smartphone”option, when I click on Audi smartphone it doesn’t even let me try to connect it

Which country do you live in? Some countries do not allow Carplay. In America yes a 2017 A5 Sportback will have this.
Do maps display on the dash? Or is that only with virtual cockpit?
Apple Carplay can show maps on the instrument cluster (I think iOS 13 onwards), but very few car manufacturers support this. So currently you can only show Audi's maps on the virtual cockpit

Leonard Negrea this is the base package, no Nav and small screen. It comes standard in every b9 a4 from 2017+ in the USA.
