Paint the receiver, free float the barrel and bed the action. Use a torque wrench to find the best setting for your action screw. Your groups will shrink even more.

Not required but it would make it look better

Why do you need to clean the dust off for the true oil? And then you using steel wool which is lots of metal dust you don’t want. Usually what people do is use the dust to fill pores in the wood and sand in the tru oil for best protection and a glass hard finish.

Better trigger and a red dot sight.

WD40? There exist numerous gum lubricants which actually lubricate. WD40 is a joke.

It’s not a joke it’s just not a good lubricant and tends to get😊 sticky quickly. I don’t use it on anything that ain’t wet.
Won’t do much harm In this case as long as he doesn’t use it on the trigger group or ejector.

i say why the hell bother swapping internal parts,ok first off,we all love and bought, purchased and own the ruger 10/22 why /?? because its a damn good gun,why would you buy a corvette and swap the engine, dumb, pointless, now a set of new custom wheels and some other mods to give it a rumble and hey your there,i am with this guy,i love doing wood work so what he did is really nice and free doesnt cost anything,i want a carbon fiber bull barrel im not into rapid firing or contest shooting,so just for looks basically and i would use the stock parts just like he did,i mean after all thats why we bought the gun, because it works flawlessly ,if you want better grouping, adjust your scope or get a reflex or something.cheers

You sir have a custom 22lr. Thought you were just going to change the barrel, you 100% changed your stock as well. Like to see what kind of muzzle, comp or flash hider you'll get for your one of a kind 10/22.

@@MrAwsomeshot what does that mean, bedding the barrel? And how do you free float the barrel? Sorry I have had my 10 22 deluxe for 2 years but just started looking into custom builds.

A bit baffled here.... While I really liked the result of your stock refurbishment, I'm not understanding the short barrel for a target gun. Shooting at only 20 yards, I would've expecting your groupings to be a lot better. I've been shooting my standard (as is) Ruger Carbine and my groupings at 50 yards are substantially more consistent. Regardless the gun looks great. If you ever decide to redo the stock plate again, you might want to try spraying the sanded metal with 2-3 light coats of Primer first. I prefer to lightly sand the dried primer with a few swipes of the steel wool and finish if off with 2-3 light coats of the black, instead of one heavy coat. Nice job!

Looks like a much better rifle but I was expecting more improvement in consistency at that distance. Perhaps different ammo or a play with the stock bolt tension? I have the 16.25" target barrel and i know the above 2 have a huge impact on grp size @100 yards....
