Not really, no torque down those bolts that hold brake caliber to manufacture required, no silicon to lube those brake pads on 2 touching points top and bottom with the hardware, no checking the 2 pins, clean and lube them, on the caliber that guide the pads, I bet he will not torque down those lug nuts to hold the wheels to 80lb-ft either. No brake cleaner used to clean the rotors and pads surface either..., those small but very essential things will keep your brake smooth, no squeaky, wear evenly and last much longer...
Just want to tell you thank you for your every informative and descriptive video. I was able to replace brakes and rotors. And save me some money at the dealer! Thanks again!
Thanks for this video. I was killing myself trying to get those rotors off until I saw on your video about the two screws being used as clamps to push the rotors out. The rest was easy. Very very helpful video. Thanks again.
I just want to thank you for this walkthrough. I did the front and rear brakes on my 2012 camry this morning in about 2 hours. Thanx for all the detail its guys like you that make mechanical issues easy to fix.
I'm so glad I watched this video before working on my car, I had a stuck rotor and had to go buy a pair of 5/16 x 2 1/2 inch bolt for .65 cents each at Home Depot ( any length will work ) came off like a charm. Thanks
so the size screw i need to remove the rotor is 12mm bolt or a 5/16 x 2 1/2 inch bolt? Thank you for giving the specs on the bolt info. I'm little new to all this, but i'm going to attempt to do this myself
Thank you so much for the tutorial. I have always replaced my pads but thought that the disc would be too difficult. The 12mm bolts trick looks really useful. Great video!
Thank you so much. What I liked best about your video was how slowly and calmly you walked thru the process, all the way up to the rotor removal. So doing it myself on my Camry.
Very informative and it helped me tremendously! Got to switch out the break pads and rotors with my father in law! I drove with the new set up and after a week I started to hear a bit of squeaking. Any suggestions as to what can be causing that ?
Thanks for your videos buddy I apriciate it I'm a watch do it type of mechanic I feel like I can do it I'll try and tackle it these helped me change the brakes all the way around my lady's car
Do you know if the 2012 Toyota Camry 4cyl LE has only front brakes? I will need to know this because I'm going to take it for a brake inspection, but I am sure the brakes may need replacement, for they haven't been changed in 9 years. I tell you this, for I don't want to be had since I am sure I may need brake pads and rotors replacement. Does anyone know how much I should pay in November 2021? Thanks for your video.
Great vdo! Thanks so much. I just replaced the brake pads about 5 months ago but now the rotors are no good and it needs new rotors. The brake pads are still very good and the question is: Do I need to replace the brake pads to go along with the new rotors? Thanks!
Anim8tor if you watch any of our Toyota front brakes removal, it’s all the same. All Toyota has the same set up so you can compare a different video to this one and it’ll be the same.
Thanks for explaining in details, I got toyota camry 2013 and it got ABS brake system, do I need any other tools or any other way to change the brakes or it just normal way to change ABS brakes. Thanks BJ
one more question? Is it possible to just use the same spacers those metal tabs for the fit kit, on a new set of brake pads. In other words will they fit the after market non-oem pads. It should right? At least I hope so.
The hybrid is a little different... If the Camry is like the Prius, you don't want to accidentally open the doors, because it'll activate the ABS system, which in turn will cause the caliper piston to engage and it'll be a problem if you're changing the brake pads. It'll be a pain in the butt to push the piston back in. So make sure to not open the doors while doing the brake job, or you can just disconnect the negative terminal to prevent any electrical activity.
You gotta turn or replace the rotors folks. Sometimes you get lucky And you wont feel a pulsation in the pedal if you dont but in my experience Most of the time you dont and also like he said. Apply grease to the slider pin and at the corners of each pad Then when everythings put together you have to remove a lil air from the calipers from when you pushed the piston in so your pedal wont feel spongy
Hi,....i have put new brakes up front (ceramic). I have noticed that there is a bit more dust on the rim on one side than the other. I have used a infrared thermometer to check the heat and I have noticed on driver's side the temperature rise an extra 5 degrees. Is that normal?
When do you recommend replacing brake pads? how many miles? When do yo recommend replacing the rotors? do you eyeball it or do you just go by the miles traveled or yearly use?
depends on your driving habit, just keep an eye on the brake pads and rotors, when you feel the brake pulsating when you step on the brakes, then I would recommend inspecting the brake pads and rotors and replace them if they look bad. Sedan usually last up till 80-90k miles depending on driving habits.
I changed my 07 camry rear rotors four months ago. O'reilly sold me two different rotors. One is black-coating, the other is non-coating. I just noticed the non-coating one has a lot of rust now. Do I need to do something with the rust? Or just leave it there? Thanks.
+Will Smith it should be rusting if you're driving it since the brake pads grind on the rotors when you use the brakes. If it's bad, you should return it and ask for an exchange.
Thanks for a great video. I also have a 2013 Camry and although I have done brake jobs on other cars, at least now I know what to expect on this model. In the midwest with all the rusting that goes on, I think it is a good preventative measure to take those brakes apart just to clean and lube them up, and thus prevent those seizures which can be a bitch to solve. BTW, do you take the cap of your master brake reservoir or instead just loosen the brake bleeder when compressing the piston back into the Caliper. Seems there are two different schools of thought as to what is best if the car has ABS. But I normally just take the cap of the master brake reservoir and never had any issues. I wonder what your opinion is on that matter? I will also check out your Rear Brake video on the Camry.
No cleaning off rust around axel nut or back of rotor to mitigate rust then applying antisieze? Or tightening slide pins or caliper pins to proper torque specs? Someone is going to get hurt. Also applying antisieze to brake hardware will cause it to loosen during use. Sometimes a little rust is a good thing.
Hi, on 2012 camry, what about the brake pad wear sensor? Is it required to replace it with the brake pad? I know on other cars if i don't change the brake pad wear sensor and try to reuse it the brake light error on dash might not go off if the sensor is worn too much.
if the brake pads didn't come with the hardware, you can reuse the old wear sensor. It's a detachable metal clip that goes onto the brake pads. It shouldn't cause any error codes on the dash.
How do I know when the rotors need to be changed? I've felt the symptoms of warped rotors and rotors with grooves before on an older car of mine but this Camry I have doesn't show any signs of that. there are small grooves in the rotors from the brake pads but they are still relatively smooth to the touch. Do I need to change the rotors? the car only has 20k miles and I haven't noticed really any change in the brakes. I'm about to change the pads though since I used this car to deliver for 10k miles.
pads and rotors usually last longer than 20k miles, it should be good until 70k or so. When your brake pads are bad, it'll start making a loud noise, that is the brake pads wear sensor that is contacting the rotors and causing that screech noise. As for the rotors, you will feel a pulsation when you step on your brake pedal, it indicate your rotors are warped or need resurfacing if its within specs. You want to change the brake pads if its less than 2mm on both inner and outer pads. Your rotors minimum thickness specs is stamped on the rotors, it should say "min" on there and it'll tell you whats the min. thickness before you can discard them. I hope that helps.
+NutzAboutBolts WOW, I didn't realize the pads and rotors lasted that long. you just saved me some money and I greatly appreciate that! thank you for the speedy response as well!
np, always check your brakes or eye ball then when you're doing an oil change though, its for safety issue and you always want to be on the safe side. The Sienna brakes don't last long with run-flat tires though, I've seen one's come in with 20k miles and their brake pads were worn down to 2mm. But Camry's I haven't seen anything too crazy.
+NutzAboutBolts I'm actually about to perform an oil change so I will definitely eyeball them. I just went out to check and the rotors are actually perfectly smooth still I could have sworn they had small grooves starting but I was mistaken.
it'll have scrape marks from the brake pads, as long as its not warped or have deep grooves in them, then they should be fine to machine/turn when the time comes.
You have your wear indicator clips on upside down. They go on top of both pads, not the bottom. If you look at your video, when you removed the pads, the clips are on top. But when you reinstalled, you placed the clips on the bottom.
Can you just take the whole caliper assembly off rather than separating the caliper from the bracket and then taking out the pads? Just need to replace rotors on my dad's 2013
NOLAItsNotOva You can do that, but if you're going to replace the rotors, you want to replace the pads as well because the pads already has the wear and tear from the old rotors, which in turn can cause scorch and pit on the new rotors, which can cause the new rotors to cause the same vibrations and problems as the old rotors... So we always recommend when changing your brakes, you want to replace both rotors and brake pads, or cut/turn the rotors and replace the brake pads, since new rotors are cheaper now a days, its best to just replace them. I hope that helps.
I'm trying to remove the caliper, however a 17mm spanner wrench doesn't fit over the bolt that keeps spinning and as turn the 14mm socket. Is the size different on the 2012 LE v6 model?
Hej can you tell me ? I have toyota avensis 2009 Diesel and I have electric brake I need to open the brake with the help of an interface computer program or I can normally move back with the help of a tool ?Thank you.
Hallo I have 2015 Toyota Avalon when I need to change my front brakes a Toyota dealer told me that I have to surface a rotors before he put the pads is that true thanks
NutzAboutBolts Cool. I have another question. I JUST replaced both front and back brakes....now when I drive it they pulsate. Why do you think that is?
i left my car in a parking lot for 2 weeks while i was out of state. when i came back the brakes were scraping. toyota said it is a moisture problem and it cost me 600 dollars to fix the brakes. think of trading my car in if this happens again. in my opinion toyota has sucky brakes. can u comment on this?
if you don't drive it for a while, the rotors will rust up due to the weather. Once you start driving it, the brake pads will start scrapping off all the rust when you use your brakes, so it'll start squeaking. Once all the rust is off, it'll start to drive like normal. If anything, you can replace the rotors and pads yourself for a lot cheaper than 600$.
Yeah it sounds like you got scammed. The material rotors are made from they will rust in rain overnight. But like stated once you drive the rust will wear right off. $600 is absolutely insane.
There is a new invention out.... it's called a torque wrench. By not using one, you ruined what would have been a great-again video.... Better luck next time. I still gave a thumbs up.
Those V springs are about stupid. Everytime I tried to put caliper back on they would fall off...nope left them off. I have done alot if brakes and Toyota has the worst/ cheapest brake design by FAR. The pads would not hold those useless V wire clips in so nope.

I changed my rotors and pads this weekend. Glad I saw the way you got your rotors off because the hammer method wasn't working!
Just want to tell you thank you for your every informative and descriptive video. I was able to replace brakes and rotors. And save me some money at the dealer! Thanks again!
good work!
Yeah man you save like 400$
I went to autozone for the bolts to pop the rotor off, they have it under M8-1.25 and the MM's is the length of bolt or thread
Gage Woods M8 is the head bolt. The 1.25 is the length of the bolt
use the brake line bracket bolt
Thanks for this video. I was killing myself trying to get those rotors off until I saw on your video about the two screws being used as clamps to push the rotors out. The rest was easy. Very very helpful video. Thanks again.
What size were the screws
@Kevin Thien, yes I used the 5/16 x 2 1/2 bolt, got it at Homedepot, length is not that critical, but i won't go shorter than 2".
I just want to thank you for this walkthrough. I did the front and rear brakes on my 2012 camry this morning in about 2 hours. Thanx for all the detail its guys like you that make mechanical issues easy to fix.

Anyone else feel like this video is being narrated by Mike Ness from Social Distortion? the voice is uncannily similar. Great video, thank you
I used your video and performed my first front brake job yesterday. Easy and cheap. Thanks!
This was a very great tutorial.
Very informative and it helped me tremendously! Got to switch out the break pads and rotors with my father in law! I drove with the new set up and after a week I started to hear a bit of squeaking. Any suggestions as to what can be causing that ?
The Cue Up did you used anti seize for the brake pads back plate and the silicone grease for the sliding pins?
NutzAboutBolts yea I used grease for the caliper pins but I didn’t use anti seize ! The anti seize just goes on the back of the pads?
The Cue Up yes, they touch the piston and caliper brackets which can cause noise if it’s not lubed
NutzAboutBolts thank you so much for the quick reply. Merry Christmas and happy new year !
The Cue Up thanks! You too
Thanks for your videos buddy I apriciate it I'm a watch do it type of mechanic I feel like I can do it I'll try and tackle it these helped me change the brakes all the way around my lady's car
Nice Job, i have question : do i need to do ( brake bleeding) , when i return the piston of the caliper?
No
Should you have torqued the bracket bolts? If so, what is the setting? BTW great video thank you!
I noticed you installed the brake indicator plate on the break pads on the bottom of the brake bracket, does it mater if it goes on top or bottom??

NutzAboutBolts thanks! Do I have to resurface the pads if I reuse them?
Minh Phan you can if you feel that it’s uneven.
Thanks for your good video. If I changed break front pad & rotor, do I need to make the break bleeding ? If yes, could u pls advise how.
No bleeding needed.
Thanks for posting this, however, it is a little hard to see some of what you're doing. For the most part it was great. Thank you again.
Anim8tor if you watch any of our Toyota front brakes removal, it’s all the same. All Toyota has the same set up so you can compare a different video to this one and it’ll be the same.
no quiet lube on th clips of the pads, didn't see you put it on?
Hi, great video. Where did you get the breaker bar that you are using. I have not seen one with jointed head.
Peter Leon it’s by Matco tools.
Thanks for explaining in details, I got toyota camry 2013 and it got ABS brake system, do I need any other tools or any other way to change the brakes or it just normal way to change ABS brakes.

its normal, just follow the video procedure.
one more question? Is it possible to just use the same spacers those metal tabs for the fit kit, on a new set of brake pads. In other words will they fit the after market non-oem pads. It should right? At least I hope so.
you can reuse the shims from the old brake pads onto the new ones, doesn't matter if its aftermarket or not.
This is great. I'm just wondering how different (if any) is it for a hybrid model? Thanks!
The hybrid is a little different... If the Camry is like the Prius, you don't want to accidentally open the doors, because it'll activate the ABS system, which in turn will cause the caliper piston to engage and it'll be a problem if you're changing the brake pads. you do it once all the pads has been replaced.

FYI....79 ft lbs for caliper bracket bolts and 25ft lbs for the caliper pins
Thanks for the Video and torque specs.
I'm fixing to do this exact job this weekend.
Now I know what to expect.
+Alex Lachino not a problem, its easy :)

Are you sure 12mm head bolts will pull that rotor off they seem pretty big
How would you know if you need to replace the rotors?
When your balls smack together when youre using your brakes to slow down
I changed my 07 camry rear rotors four months ago. O'reilly sold me two different rotors. One is black-coating, the other is non-coating. I just noticed the non-coating one has a lot of rust now. Do I need to do something with the rust? Or just leave it there? Thanks.

RonGJX Don't top off the brake fluid and you can compress the caliper piston without any issues. The only issue is overflow at the master cylinder.
as for a 2015 toyota corolla , would the procedure be the same as shown for the camry or is it a totally different approach ?
+jaysonrocks thefinest (rane0ne) its the same.
Whats the pitch for the rotor screws ?

does it matter if you have regenerating brakes on a Hybrid 2014
Yes, your brakes won’t wear out faster compare to non regenerative braking system.
what is the bolt thread pitch/size you used to remove the rotors from the hub assembly?
+streetracerofGTs I believe it was 8.25, the head is 10mm bolt, you can find it at home depot.
I'm trying to remove the caliper, however a 17mm spanner wrench doesn't fit over the bolt that keeps spinning and as turn the 14mm socket. Is the size different on the 2012 LE v6 model?
+Gregory Young yes it should be the same size.
A bit late but as NutzAboutBolts mentioned, he had to grind down the face of his 17mm wrench some to get it to fit into the narrow gap..
Thx man use the bolt. Smooth job. Save 100$ labor
The slide pin on my bracket is SEIZED stuck. It won’t compress or slide out. Any ideas to get it out?
Heat up the outside of it with a torch and then try to remove. Also, a good lubricating oil should work if the heat doesn't.
Hej can you tell me ? I have toyota avensis 2009 Diesel and I have electric brake I need to open the brake with the help of an interface computer program or I can normally move back with the help of a tool ?Thank you.

yes, you need to resurface the rotors or replace them if it can't be resurface.
Do i need to remove the whole caliper is i'm just changing the pads ? not the rotor?
Omer Malik you have to move the caliper out of the way for the new brake pads to be installed, you don't have to remove the caliper bracket though.
Does this work for the 2018 as well
I dont understand why you took the rotor off if you werent replacing it
was a demonstration.
NutzAboutBolts Cool. I have another question. I JUST replaced both front and back brakes....now when I drive it they pulsate. Why do you think that is?
if you replaced just the pads, then the rotor needs to either be cut or replaced.
I did rotors too
yes
You don’t resurfaced the rotors, when you replace just the pads without resurfacing the rotors the brakes can make noise when you braking
why replace the rotor with the brakes?
He is just showing how to replace them! in case you need to!!!
Do you have a video for the rear rotors?
Justin Williams yes we do, if you do a search, it should be in the toyota playlist. Let me know if you don't see it.
Is there a difference with a hybrid
Yes, they have a different braking system
Whats are the best rotors and brake pads to buy for 2013 camry?
we always recommend OEM.
Thank you.good job.God bless you.
great job...thanks for sharing this 👍🏻🔧🔩
For a 2012 Camry xle we got the m7-1.0 from Home Depot, in case anyone is in my situation, wasted 3 hours trying to find the correct size 😅
Add a little grease to insure your rotor comes of next time.
where did you guys find a 17mm wrench that fit?
we grind down our 17mm wrench. You can also use a 17mm bike wrench as well.
+NutzAboutBolts where can I buy one?just ordered some brake pads. i would appreciate it, thank you.
yeah, use this link amzn.to/2brjlou It's a good looking tool to use for holding the bolt.
What type of lubricant do you recommend?
***** 3M brand if possible. If not, then just any brake lubes

How do I know if I need to change the rotors?
when your steering wheel vibrates when you step on the brake pedal.

Those V springs are about stupid. Everytime I tried to put caliper back on they would fall off...nope left them off. I have done alot if brakes and Toyota has the worst/ cheapest brake design by FAR. The pads would not hold those useless V wire clips in so nope.
You reversed the pads, that's not really good!!
Looking through to say this. The brake pads were reinstalled upside down.
B Bowling I just changed my pads and placed the spring clip up is that correct
He replaced them right I just got done doing my sister's Camry 2014 LE
Do I need to surface the disc brakes every time I replace the brake pads?
it is recommended since the old rotors wear pattern from the pads is still there and can cause vibration from the new pads. I always do it.
Do you need to break the center bolt of the rotor
I have a 2015 camry
