Repairing a driveway for a local business!

  • Using my Bobcat s-185 Skid loader to repair a driveway leading to a parking lot I built, the stone I used in the first place didn't pack together as well as I had hoped so I fixed it by adding 3-4 inches of 2A limestone over top and compacting it with my International 4900 Dump Truck!

    In Norway we would have sprinkled salt,the kind you would have used during winter to remove ice on roads,on a roadway like this.It binds the dust and makes the gravel stick better together thereby making the roadway harder!

    Nice creative job man !
    Just a note from a retired marketing and advertising Old Geeser : You have a very clean looking truck and trailer combo. You should clean and repaint your skidsteer too. Just masking the rust spots would make it look a lot better.
    Remember that people make themselves an idea on someone, a product or a business in only 3 seconds. And are very hard to change their minds afterwhile. First impression is very important in any business. Look at Letsdig 18, his equipment is always clean and look good.
    I don't want to nag nag nag you, just to help ! Kudos man !

    I use to run a bobcat 773 a lot when I use to be a heavy equipment operator and I noticed that using the rock bucket (the one with the teeth) was great for leveling ground. Because you could lift the rock bucket and tilt it in and use the teeth like a rake and drag rock bucket in ground causing it to loosen gravel and then go back and level bucket on ground causing it to level surface. I don't mean to tell you how to do or use your bobcat because you do an awesome job with it anyways, but just wanted to help you out with a idea if you didn't know already brother. Take care sir. Your friend Eric Houser

      What I’m using here would be the closest thing we have to that in limestone, there is a place right across the line in WV that sells steel mill slag products. They have something that sounds a lot more like what you are describing.

    I just came across your channel and video this evening. I really enjoyed it. How did you go about charging for this project? Also, what do you charge to deliver a load of stone in your dump truck?

    • @DieselCreek
      @DieselCreek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      I’m probably gonna do a video about how I charge for things in the future because I get that a lot. I’ll tell you I did this one cheaper because it was almost like re-work I have an hourly rate I charge for machine time, have a minimum number of hours I charge for and also make sure I charge time for moving the machine to and from. As for stone delivery I typically double the price of stone as a rule of thumb. I buy it for 9.50 a ton and sell it for $19, and the truck can haul about 9.5 tons at a time. That covers my time and fuel within a certain area, outside that area I charge an additional delivery fee depending on distance usually $30 per load. I also have an advantage because the quarry is less than an air mile from my house. Thanks for watching!!!

    Just found you today by way of the Autocar Vids you did, which I really enjoyed. Been an Andrew Camarata subscriber for a long time so it was an easy decision to subscribe here as well once I saw what else you had on your channel.
    A year from now, we plan on building a home and unlike our other homes, I plan on doing the earthwork myself. I've decided that a used skid-steer would be the most versatile machine for the whole job as I do not have the resources for an excavator or multiple other machines. My choice was a tracked machine but the prices seem high and the selection is limited compared to a wheeled unit. Will you give me a quick rundown on the pros and cons of using a wheel machine with the overlay tracks as you have on your S185 versus a dedicated track skid-steer? Finally, is it a lot of time and effort to remove those tracks or put them back on if one needs to do it? Thanks.

    • @DieselCreek
      @DieselCreek  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      fridays video will talk alot about the tracks but they are a great addition to a wheeled machine! they give added stability over tires but still not as good as real tracks, they arent too bad to take on and off once you get the hang of it, tho I seldom take them off. if you can afford it id recommend getting a tracked machine but ultimately you can get by doing most things with tires.

      @@DieselCreek I have a t190, it is an awesome little machine, after running a skid,the track machine is way more solid feeling. Looks like the best solution for the drive way is asphalt or concrete.

    Why roll it. Why not just let the nautral traffic roll it ?

      because the likely hood that someone would spin it up and cause another hole before it was packed was high, also they wouldn't get the edges and a heavy rain may wash it out, also my truck will pack that harder than cars would get in several weeks of travel. its not a super busy lot.

    Don't you fix the autocar truck dose not move it right. I honestly enjoyed this video aslo Bobcat s-185 Skid loader to repair a driveway leading to a parking lot I built, the stone I used in the first place didn't pack together as well as I had hoped so I fixed it by adding 3-4 inches of 2A limestone over top and compacting it with my International 4900 Dump Truck! :)

      @@DieselCreek can you look for a 10 foot dump bed for me and where did get that control box for the up and down for the dump box

    I would have started that job by first taking the bobcat and angling the bucket more toward the vertical and then raised the wheels off the ground to cut down the high points to level. Then add the gravel to the low points then back-blade to grad. and ground pound if needed to finish. ..... (just an old man's suggestion.)

    • @DieselCreek
      @DieselCreek  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      the way the gravel was the machine would have just spun its wheels if I did that, some of the larger rock had come up through the top coat because of people spinning, so i just laid it all back down as flat as possible (carrying the material up the slope) then put the top coat on! Thanks for watching!!
