    Yes, I am moving! This was built at our current home as a way to tidy up the backyard as we prepare it for sale. The bench will stay at this house.

    I'm glad I ran across this video today. My daughter and son-in-law are going to have a pool installed and they will need some storage space for pool items. This is the perfect solution. I have all the tools needed and my son-in-law is a great helper. I'm sure if we had all materials on hand, we could build something like this in half a day.
    BTW, I love the bike t-shirt. I've never seen one quite like that. Since you obviously are a cyclist, you will know what I mean when I tell you I am and old guy and I now ride a 'bent and love it. With degenerative disk disease in my upper and lower back it just became too painful to ride an upright, but the 'bent has enabled me to keep riding into my 70s.

    Looks good Bob! the only thing I'd change is when laying the deck boards out is to have the exposed surface of the deck boards be the crown of the wood grain. For longevity, as the boards move around the pith, you want the board to take a crown shape instead of a cup shape. This prevents water from laying on the boards

    • @gregmfarmer
      @gregmfarmer 7 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hi there - I am new to DIY and wood work, is there an obvious way to tell which is the crown of the wood grain? Sounds like a great tip.

    i love building stuff that my parents could use every day, makes me feel good when i see their faces light up at what i've created. My father needs this for his pool. so i think im going to build a 5 foot long one (as he doesnt have a very large amount of pool stuff). thanks for the inspiration! Keep doing what you're doing, you're great at it!

    mesh bottom, great idea.
    perhaps he already mentioned this, but an advantage of using just the mesh on the bottom is that you won't have moldy wood at the bottom. whatever you put in the storage box is probably wet/damp from the pool.

    Can we get a complete list of the lumber please. I really want to try this

    • @karenavery3672
      @karenavery3672 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      in the picture in the beginning I counted 8 2 x4s, and I saw 11 1x 4s. You need 4 of the former, just for the frame, plus there were 12 of the smaller pieces, which would depend on the width and depth you want. The 1x4 s require at least 5 for the top and 10, for both sides, plus the ends so that is at least 16 or 17. Correct me if you see otherwise.

    • @schase02
      @schase02 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I could see the following for a cut list. take the cut list and plot it out to see the optimal lumber purchase.
      (6 pcs) 2x4x8 cut at roughly 18.75"
      (4 pcs) 2x4x10
      (6 pcs) 2x4x8 cut at about 22" 1" overhang for feet
      (8 pcs) 1x4x12 cut at about 10' then remaining 2' for ends
      (4 pcs) 1x4x10 decking boards
      (6 pcs) 2x4x8 about 15"
      screws 2"
      screws 2 1/2"
