    Wow you just described my childhood. I miss these. My father made the best pickled eggs. He sold them in his bar in the 1970s for $0.25 each. He would make me some for helping him.....I miss my dad and these eggs......thank you.

      My grandpa's bar in Fox Lake Illinois had the best fresh beer smell. He raised chickens behind the bar and made pickled eggs. When my mom and dad took me to visit from Chicago my favorite time was chasing chickens, collecting eggs, and eating grandma's red pickled eggs while sitting on a bar stool. I'm 78 and everyone back then is gone, but I have the memories.

    When I was a kid just under drinking age but with a fake ID I went into a bar and while we were having a beer I seen a sign.
    " Boneless chicken with beets 2 for 25 cents. "
    I said to the bartender I'll try that boneless chicken. And he proceeded to serve me 2 hard-boiled pickled eggs. I laughed my ass off and I have never forgot that.

    The easiest way to make pickled eggs is to place hard boiled eggs in the left over pickle juice after you've eaten all the pickles. My grandmother used to do this all the time, she was a frugal New Englander

    • @pinkyackerman677
      @pinkyackerman677 7 ปีที่แล้ว +14

      LOL! I still do that to this day, it IS the easiest way tho. If you use Claussen, they won't pickle right, the juice isn't strong enough. Thanx WolfPit!! This will be my NEW way of doing it and, something new because i LOVE beets too.

    Great recipe! I just wanted to say that you should temper your jar before adding boiling-hot liquid to it. Just fill the jar at least half way with very hot tap water, cover it and let it set for 5-10 minutes. Dump out the hot water and then fill it as shown while the glass is still hot. This helps prevent the glass from breaking due to heat shock.

    • @mouldiepops1618
      @mouldiepops1618 7 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You should really sterilise the jars before adding the ingredients. Just wash and rinse, then put in a low oven for 5 to 10 minutes and allow to cool in the oven before removing them and adding everything immediately.

    I have only been in 2 or 3 bars in my lifetime, not somewhere I go since I don't really drink, but I developed a taste for pickled eggs somehow--maybe the idea just appealed to me so I started making my own by simply buying a jar (yes, they used to come in a glass jar) of pickled beets, eat all the beets, and stuff boiled eggs and onions in the red liquid left over, right into the same jar the beets came in. I made this for Easter or some family holiday when my dad was declining in health and he ate them all (I think mom was starving him). Never thought about putting pearl onions in so have to try that. Thanks. I've even boiled eggs, put them some of those Japanese egg molds so they come out looking like hearts or fish or cars, then stuck them in the pickle juice.

    The vinegar is what preserves them! You can even leave cooked adobo chicken or whatever meat out for a long time - it's the vinegar! I do wash my hands before reaching into the pickle jar, but not to worry... it's the vinegar that kills many (but not the worst of the worst) bacteria and germs. Enjoy your pickled eggs and thanks for the video!

    One of my late father's favorite treats. Hardest part was waiting long enough to let them pickle through. I started with canned pickled beets, two small cans and one dozen eggs to make two quarts.

    That's my Grandma's red beet eggs. She only made them in the spring around Easter. These are great as a straight up snack, they also make killer egg salad and deviled eggs.

    I remember hearing about pickled eggs as a kid and thought the very idea of them sounded gross, but then fast forward to 2003 when I joined the army, a buddy of mine and I used to go to this old school bar that served us alcohol even though we were 18, and there was a jar of pickles eggs on the bar and my buddy was excited to see them and asked how much they were (they were free :) ) and he's from North Florida and grew up on boiled peanuts and pickled eggs (I'm from West Central Texas, so we grew up on homemade beef jerky) and at first I said hell no lol but then again I was drunk and hungry, so I ate one and it was actually pretty damn good! To me it tastes almost like a regular boiled egg, but better, like if you were to salt a plain boiled egg and add some Louisiana hot sauce (which is how I like to eat boiled eggs in the rare occasion I make em). I ate six of those fkrs and my buddy ate eight of em lol
    You know how after a night of heavy drinking you have the beer and/or liquor shits, and later on those stanky, raunchy ass beer/liquor farts? Yeah they're something else lol now imagine that coupled with a little over a dozen hardboiled pickled eggs coming out of two dudes 😂🥒🥚💨🤢🍻
    Edit: oh! The hangover was actually non existent. I did not know this at the time, but eggs contain either a chemical or a compound called cysteine that somehow lessens the effects of hangovers, so eating eggs/breakfast for dinner at Denny's before going to your place to pass out/eating some eggs for breakfast at breakfast when you wake up the next morning or afternoon is good for you 🤙🏻 also why in the old days, like old days when guys were building skyscrapers and the Empire State Building, or mining for coal in the mountains, they used to crack a raw egg into a beer or more commonly a boiler maker, or drop a peeled boiled egg into the boiler maker and slam it, drinking the raw egg at the same time, or eating the boiled egg after chugging the boiler maker.

  • @itseffinsexxitime

    Wow I'm from the north and I never knew this was how it was done down south! Up here we just pickle the eggs in plain brine. Sometimes with garlic and dill but never with beets. I love beets but hate pickled beets which is odd because I love pickled everything lol so I can't say I would try these but I love the color the beets give!

    • @TheWolfePit
      @TheWolfePit  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      +itseffinsexxitime I've never had them just brined, so I will have to give those a try next! These beets don't end up tasting like regular pickled beets in my opinion, not nearly as strong.....so you may like them a bit better. Thanks for watching!

      +NYCCHOCOLATE7777 You definitely have to make some and give them a try! Since you've never had them don't buy them from a store, or you will never like pickled eggs. Just make a dozen and if you don't like them one of your friends will or a homeless person would LOVE to have a few! So they definitely won't go to waste! Yeah in hindsight the spill in the kitchen is funny, but it wasn't funny when it happened!!! LOL Thank you for watching!

    I love pickled eggs, however I thoroughly dislike beets, so I use the left-over juice from a gallon-sized jar of dill pickles. I just put the eggs into the juice and let them sit for a coupla weeks. They're delicious! Larry, give 'em a try! :)
