Wow, I agree with you. I got this degree a while ago and never used it. Basically I did nothing what you said, so it makes sense why I never got to use this degree. Very good advice though, I had no internships or any programming skills. You are in the right track, good luck.

Thanks for the video! As a California community college student who's pursuing a math track, it really helped me plan ahead.

I am starting my first year with a double major in computer science engineering and applied maths...

Interesting... thinking of switching physics to applied maths depending what marks I get.. Was always better at maths than physics.. kind of doing bad in my physics major atm

Sounds like you find math to be a better fit for you. If you do, you could (if you want) try fitting in a Physics minor, depending on how many Physics classes you've taken at this point. Thus, making your Physics classes count towards your major (assuming the Math Dept accepts them)

Hi Ken! Thank you for making this video! I am currently a pre-computational math major at UCLA and I’ve been going back and forth with which field I should go into. I realized that I can probably get a stats minor by simply taking stats clases that satisfy both the math major and the stats minor but still it seems like I need to take 12 clases per year in order to graduate on time. Btw, could you talk about how to find internship opportunities as an applied math major in your future videos? Thank you!

Hey, there! Thank you for sharing. That sounds like a good plan though if you can get the courses you take to count for both your minor and your major (unless you're willing and able to stay longer though). I'll definitely look into talking about getting internship opportunities in general. I'm still figuring that out, but I'm not ruling out talking about that in the future :)

Can you make a video on how to get good at math?

Hey Ken, thanks for the video! Would majoring in CS/SE and minoring in Math be better than doing Applied Math and Comp with CS minor? I definitely want my undergraduate courses to enhance my Math and programming skills as I am very much interested in Machine learning but I also want to keep my options open towards Software Engineering.
    Thanks

If you're looking to keep Software Engineering options open, a CS/SE degree might work better for you. The job market for the CS/SE is much larger than Applied Math and Comp and you're more likely going to pick up on the hard programming and SE skills/project exp that the Applied Math and Comp sometimes lack. To compensate for the lack of sufficient math background (which is most crucial for ML more so than coding [which can be picked up fairly quickly]), a Math minor, while not as much, would definitely help fill in those gaps in the math parts of the CS/SE curriculum.
Not that the Applied Math & Comp + CS minor makes it hard to do so (I know of Math majors that get software jobs), but it's a bit more work as you have to do some extra learning on your own to bolster up your CS/SE skills (esp with how broad and grad school-ready much of the coursework in Applied Math can be).
