- Here is an owners opinion on what a standard Royal Enfield Classic 350 benefits best from after it is properly run in...

• Royal Enfield Classic 350
Another excellent video offering with solid advice and contagious enthusiasm for these amazing bikes. Around 1,700 miles on mine now and still running as standard but now seriously considering the de-cat pipe and air filter mod. The road on that last bit of footage was fabulous - makes me a little envious - but then Norfolk (especially the North Norfolk coast) does have its own charm and beauty. Cheers!
Hi Joe, thanks for watching and leaving a comment, those two mods will let your bike breath and run a lot better, glad my views are of use for you 👍, cheers Bruce
After looking into flow numbers and direct parts comparisons, I found it more frugal to take a hole saw and drill out a stock airbox cover ($4 from my local dealership). You get the same performance and sound as spending real money on the DNA kit. The opened air box and stock filter together pull well over 80 CFM on a flow bench while a 350cc 4 stroke at 6100RPM pulls maybe 40CFM at the upper limit unless you introduce forced induction.
The more air you can flow in and out of an engine, the more power you get. Always been the case. 😎 Cheers
Hi Lance, yeah let them breath! 😁👍👍 cheers Bruce
Great to see an honest straight forward and thoroughly enjoyable review.......cheers.
Your welcome 😁 thanks
Cheers Bruce
Spot on. I’m glad you made a point of running in the bike. A completely different machine at a thousand miles. The classic is an economical bike that looks fantastic. The 70mph+ doesn’t bother me either, as I can’t be bothered with the winds at that speed😂
Hi Mbo 348 I think it took a good 2 thousands miles until my bike was real smooth and run in properly, thanks for watching and leaving a comment 😁👍 cheers Bruce
Good advice, always enjoy your video's. Can tell me what handlebars are fitted to your bike?
I've done the air filter, +1 front sprocket, just doing the exhaust end can and decat pipe homemade from a length of stainless tube, made my pannier racks and fitted black dyed 58 pattern large packs. Love the bike and totally agree with waiting to see if you like the speed etc especially if your coming off a bigger bike, I have an interceptor too so I'm sorted really, great feeling when bobbing about the back lanes, Bruce your vids are cracking mate and helps folk decide what mods if any to carry out, atb Chris
Hi Chris, thanks for watching and your comments on my films-it helps with real feedback from folk on what to make if folk are interested 👍
Loads more films in the pipeline so stay tuned! 😁👍 cheers Bruce
Wow! What a beautiful bike you got there. The front plate number, the fat fromt tyre, pannier and grill. Nicely done! And love your handle bar
Thank you 😁
Cheers Bruce
Thanks CS. Great job. Good info. God bless.
HAPPY TRAILS
Thanks Ward 😁👍👍👍
I keep my bikes mostly standard and have only added some cheap soft pannier bags to the Classic but it does not detract from such an enjoyable bike. It amazing how the default question around bikes is speed, there is a lot more to biking than driving. It good to just enjoy the bike.
Hi Alex, so true what you say, I’m buying a MUTT Hilts 125 soon to put on the back of the van being light enough (and let my partners son ride) for heading up north with our pushbikes and camping kit and I will be showing even with a 125 you can have a lot of fun 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland You know what they say, size don't matter🤣 I think you can have more fun on smaller bikes depending where you ride them as they so easy to handle. When I had my VFR I would avoid some of the back roads I like to ride due to the weight. That Mutt will be a hoot.
The last riding part is just pure bliss!
Thanks, great roads! 😁👍👍
Very sound advice and compliments your sprocket video nicely.
As I mentioned on that video, it impresses me as to why throw money at an excellent bike for so little gain.
Thanks again.
PS, what helmet are you using. I like the removable peak.
Hi again Tim and thanks again for your comments, my helmet is a Shoei EX-ZERO I has a visor but slides into helmet so you can also use max goggles!😁👍 cheers Bruce
Great video congratulations... here in Brazil the classic 350 has also arrived
Thank you Adilson, more films to comeback👍😁 cheers Bruce
I think what you have to consider when improving / enhancing and accessorising a bike is how long you intend to keep it ! I ride an Interceptor and have probably spent upwards of £1500 on it getting it to look how I wanted , some may say why spend all that because you are up to the price of x/y/z bikes but then I'd do all the same stuff anyway ! The bike is a keeper so any money spent ÷ many years of ownership the cost is negligible and I've done it over 3 years not all at once !
Your bike is a looker and if I added another to my garage I'd want something very similar , wish I'd bought a pegasus bridge version !
Nice video have subscribed 👍🏻
Thanks for your input and Sub THE MOOG 👍😁 cheers Bruce
Good advice- I've got 4200km on my meteor and the engine has loosened up nicely without any mods. Just now going to do the filter and look at exhaust options. Ride roads that suit the bike and it'll be a joy.
Glad it helped Brent, so many owners happy with these bikes👍😁 cheers Bruce
Thanks Bruce. Good, practical, real-world advice, as always. Mine has now done 2,500 miles and completely standard but I am going to do the de-cat pipe and air filter. I did clean the relays, headlight and speedo connections, which were plastered in white grease, not that I had any problems. Just a quick question. Where did you get the front mudguard mudflap, or is it a homemade job?
Hi Dave, you done all the right things so far checking those connecters for too much grease!, the front mudguard is from Hitchcocks UK and about the cheapest add on accessory at about £7!, but be cautious if fitting as requires drilling 3 holes and you may not want to do that to a chrome mudguard as it could/may start to bubble rust from breaking the chrome. I think other owners have stuck them on with a sealant, so maybe worth investigating?
Cheers Bruce
The first thing I would do with that military model is change the number on the tank to MY service number...
Ace idea lipsee 👍
Cheers Bruce
My plan exactly.
What's the reasoning behind removing the dielectric grease from the headlight connections and fuse box? Are they just excessively greased from the factory/prone to collecting dust/dirt?
A lot of owners have eliminated small teeth problems from decreasing the connector, the orange engine management is a common one that stops once the relays under the right side black metal cover are degreased, I sprayed the with WD40 to wash out most of the grease but leave something with an anti corrosion protection
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland Great to know, I plan to pick one of these up as soon as I get back from work here in a few months. Also going to delete the cat under your recommendation
Good commentary. Succinct and to the point. I've had my Classic now for 6 months and have made some of the mods mentioned. I'm not so sure about upgrading the air filter though. The manufacturer of the replacement filter mentioned in the video, claims an additional 4.8% increase in flow over the OEM filter. What does this mean in real world terms? Not much I suspect. Especially when you consider the bike's throttle body is, I believe, only 26mm in diameter. One thing I did change was the gear shift lever, replacing it with a heel toe shift lever. In the event of a fall the heel toe shift lever will bend whereas the other would likely break or worse still bend the shifter shaft. The 350 Classic is about the journey not so much the destination.
Hi Miles, good points you make, thanks for your experiences 👍
I too never really get % stats on parts and just go for seat of the pants feel to changes 👍 cheers Bruce
You are right about the air filter ‘improvement’. I bought a DNA filter for my Meteor, but wouldn’t recommend it to anyone unless it was time to replace the filter. I think the increase in airflow comes almost entirely from the stage 2 kit, which opens it up immensely. I love the intake sound now but I can see how some people might be put off by it.
cheers coastrider. i agree with everything you say (apart from the fake springs). this bike for me is a 100% keeper, i'm not interested in the bigger bikes at all - too heavy for my riding style (dispatch and commuting). however, what i've added to mine - along with the the hitchcock's pipe, fuelx and the dna filter - is olympic bar ends (you can see bloody everything) and the performance cam. as well as the back lanes and twisties, i do quite a lot of local a-road and motorway (here in and around cologne). nothing major - normally as far as düsseldorf in the north and bonn in the south) but enough to count. the cam is a game changer, not a massive one, but it turns it from being a 350 Classic to a 350 Classic Plus. the whole torque range moves up the rev range which makes it meatier at the top end. long uphills are no longer a bit of a struggle and overtaking is less daunting. also, no "buzziness" through 60 to 70 mph. it's not for everyone, but if you're thinking of doing it and you've got the cash, i recommend it.
I am thinking of fitting the cam if I find myself with some spare cash! 😁👍👍
Can you list all the accessories you've fitted? I like the front plate which adds to the classic look. Absolutely agree the de-cat and dna filter are the first step! I am coming down from an BMW F800ST to a 350 since I no longer need a work-horse..... but I still have the Triumph Thunderbird which has a 1700 lump in it for the times when I want to do more than lazy local pottering around!
Hi David I will do a film for you soon with costs etc 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Morning Bruce, after fitting my Hitchcock’s decat pipe, the difference in feel was noticeable, definitely more peppy. I will eventually get round to fitting a DNA filter too. Cheers
Hi Ian, letting them breath a bit makes a big difference, I also forgot to add it seems easier to keep it in the ECO range though I prefer to let it eev a bit! 😁👍👍 cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland win win 😎
Such a fantastic bike, great video. Did you paint the bike yourself or did you have it done somewhere? I'd like to paint mine in German field grey
Hi I painted the bike myself as done quite a lot of rattle can spraying on various add ins for my Willys Jeep so also had plenty paint!, a German grey would look fantastic! 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland brilliant job, it looks great! I don't think I'm brave enough to have a go at it myself though 😁
Great video, did you paint the lower part of the front shocks?
Hi Michael yeah painted them with red primer undercoat, then Olive drab green 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Your bike sounds great. You recommended the decat and the filter but I was not clear on the muffler. Is that the stock silencer?
Hi Kyle, I have a cheap aftermarket pipe but some riders have refitted their stock silencer as it’s not too restrictive and does have a good sound, I will prob buy a Hitchcocks de cat pipe and fit it with the stick silencer when got the spare money and then the bike will be perfect for MOT time in 2 years 👍😁 cheers Bruce
Great side bags, where did you find them, i have exactly the same bike model!!
Hi these are from eBay, not genuine RE but a lot cheaper, available in several colours 👍
Cheers Bruce
Different kickstand? Or is it painted black? Also, the handlebar. Is it higher and closer to you?
I would also recommend people buy the mirror extenders. I was so frustrated with the mirrors until I put those on. Now the mirrors are actually usable.
Your bike looks awesome. Love the jeep as well.
Hi I just painted the kickstand to de chrome all the bike, it needs powder coated ideally
Bars are stock bars with that MX handlebar brace I found in a box of parts 👍😁
Beautifull bike. Only item you forgot to change is the helmet.
That's more himalayan style😊
😁👍
How did you get the green one? When I look on the website there only seems to be the sand coloured one and grey. Great videos 👌👌👌🤩
I made it 😁 i bought a stealth grey in 2022 when no Signals were bring brought into the UK by MotoGB and i stripped it and painted it myself Olive Drab green 😁with 4th Royal Tank Regiment Desert Rats markings 👍 search my playlist for the 4 films doing it 👍
@@Coastriderscotland That’s very cool! At least I know how you got a green one now! 😂 I will certainly take a look at the videos of you doing it! Thanks 🤩
I replaced the whole exhaust system with the Hitchcocks stainless steel system for about £200 on my Meteor, it turns out there is more restrictions in the down pipe! (At least that’s so on the Meteor) I shaved a hella lot of weight! Sounds gorgeous too!
Hi Steven, that’s interesting findings you found with the Hitchcocks full pipe!, but if it sounds lovely then guess you can live with it 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland I mean to say that the stock down pipe has the restrictions, the Hitchcock doesn’t, and is lighter.
@@TheNorfolkThunderbolt ah thanks for that info 👍
no music, just engine, love it!
A great soundtrack from the 350! 😁👍
The engine is the music.
Please leave yr top 3 favourite colours of the Royal Enfield Classic 350 in the comments of my latest video...I'm trying to get as many peoples choices as possible!..for no other reason than I'm curious!! Thanks and ride safe 🙏
Will do 😁👍
@@Coastriderscotland Thanks buddy 👍
We’ll, that was a fun video. A little hard to catch all the words through your lovely accent but that’s my problem not yours. 😂 Also that quick run down the track at the end of the video had me thinking of the opening scene from Lawrence of Arabia! I kept worrying for the climax. Good riding!!
I need to buy a better quality microphone definitely Carl, and speak a bit slower, I will work on my BBC English! 😁😜🤣👍
Cheers Bruce
Nice I fancy one too
You should test ride one, such a lovely smooth motor 😁
Cheers Bruce
Does having just the filter help at all too? I don't think I am allowed to have decat on a bike here in the US. I could be wrong though.
Hi i imagine your laws change i. Various States in the US? So maybe worth checking,
The air filter and stage 2 end certainly let the bike breath a bit better 👍😁
Cheers Bruce
Running in my new signals (165 miles do far) I’d like to source some army green canvas type throw over panniers, good as the genuine RE panniers look I don’t want to add them with the mounting frames , that’s about all I want to add at the moment, not too big either about 15/20 litres each. Straight away I fitted the trapezium engine bars and the sump guard.
Hi Aidrian, if you look on EBay you can buy heavy duty canvas green panniers for £19 each, about the size you want, they have bicycle rack clips but can be attach together to use as throw over panniers, I may get a second one and try them 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland Thanks for the tip Bruce, I’ll have a look 👍🏻
Did you need to do anything with the ecu after fitting the pipe and filter?
Hi Alex, I just let the bike sit and idle 10 minutes from cold, not sure if any truth in it but folk mention the ACU resets to suit. Cheers Bruce
Great one Bruce
Thanks Stanley 😁
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland so Bruce just to confirm on the de-cat will it fit into the existing pipe? found a lovely all black version of this lovely bike
Whats your thought om iridium plug had one on my himalayan was good ... spot on about cl/350 mileage 1500 on mine and its finally starting to feel really peppy
Oh not thought about one of them yet, though I ma trying to not spend on any extras now for the 350 😁, keep me posted how I goes long term with that plug 👍😁 cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland yeah will do ....might interest you... bbc news channel scroll down to "the man who discovered abyss of time.." its on your patch😊👍
Do you think a DNA filter & decat would help to run cooler whilst running in?
Hi Julian, I think the general thought with a lot of owners is leave stock until run in fully, I left mine until 2000 miles, they do seem to run warm when tight and not fully run in I know my bike was warm but as the miles go on it will become cooler running 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Am surprised you haven't added a Fuel X as I thought after doing the breathing mods the engine would run lean & hot, but you say it's running cooler so I guess experience counts here! Have you done a longer run - an A Road for example at prolonged cruising speeds - to see if if runs hotter under those conditions?
Hi Isla done 1hour rides on the A1 at 60+ but I think it gets hotter on 3rd 4th gear twisty roads as working the engine harder, I prob will add a fuel X before summer to see what it does 😁 cheers Bruce
The function of the ecu in closed loop mode is to adjust the fuel injection to maintain a fuel air ratio. Fuel x just fools the ecu into running rich
@@nikoscosmos Ah okay, so it shouldn't be running lean then 👍
@Isla WS to pass emissions regulations the engines are running relatively lean on part throttle but not so much that they overheat.
To be honest unless you have an infrared thermometer to actually test the heat on the engine, this is all pretty subjective as too if it's hotter or cooler
Do the engine guards offer substance protection against drops, particularly slow speed drops, or are they more for looks?✌🏾
Hi, they are ok for slow speed drops or bike rolling off side stand etc but think the centre top mount would bend or crack in a big impact as it as alloy while the bars themselves are steel
Cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland Thanks. Be well and happy riding.✌🏾
Is there any need/benefit to remapping these once the intake and exhaust have been changed? I had a T100 a while back and I bought a Toga silencer kit from Norman Hyde along with a Power Commander which was pre-loaded with a modified map for the mods. Made a big difference to torque and probably a few (insignificant) bhp.
Hi Ashley, I have not read/ watched on here anyone getting the bike remapped but it would make interesting findings if it is done by someone 👍 cheers Bruce
You don’t need to remap for the air filter. When you first install let it idle for 15 minutes the ecu will tune it up on its own
That's quite a nice bike! And for this price - very affordable!
Hi, great value for money and been reliable and good build quality too!
@@Coastriderscotland it might be the one to get me back into riding again!
Merci pour ces conseils et qu'apporte le changement du pignon sortie de boite de vitesse ?✌️🇨🇵
Hi Alain, it just lowers the revs it does not increase top speed
Cheers Bruce
73 MPH is NO problem AT ALL. It's more fun to ride a "slow" bike fast than a "fast" bike slow. Most people will not be on a race track. Riding is about riding, not a pissing contest of mere numbers! These are super fun bikes to RIDE!
Hi James they sure are great fun to own and ride! 😁😜👍
Cheers Bruce
Hi, I've not read all the comments so I hope I'm not asking you a question you've already answered. What bars do you have on it?
Hi Ian, they were Stooge Moto bars from Ace Desert parts in London but I have refitted the stock bars with an added max crossbrace as they are an inch higher than the MX bars and a more comfortable bend for longer days touring, but the Desert MX bars look so cool! 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Where did you get the front mudguard reg plate holder ?
Hi, I bought this from Hitchcocks U.K. about £30 plus couple of quid for stick on numbers they also sell
Cheers Bruce
did you put that front mudguard number plate on?
Hi, yep I bought it from Hitchcocks U.K.
cheers Bruce
After a ride taking 2 hours the beeline gives an average speed. Usually its an avarage speed below 50 km/h. So the power of the bike is not used in my case. I drive a 1300 xjr. Having fun does not mean going Lightspeed.
Thanks for your comment, cheers Bruce
Made for those roads. 👍
Hi Charles, it is certainly in its element on country roads, such a lovely bike for not a lot of money compared to most of todays prices of new motorbikes 😁👍

nice bike in a nice scenery
Thanks, it’s at home here in the countryside 👍😁 cheers Bruce

What is that thing on your front fender
Hi Josh, from no plate? Qr show plate, white tip is how the WW2 despatch bikes were painted 👍

Wonderfull🤩
Thanks 🤗
have you modified it coz the stock one does not look like this?
When i bought my bike in 2022 the Signals green or sand options were not being imported to the UK so i bought a stealth Grey and few months later stripped it and repainted it myself and changed a few parts too, here is the 4th part of the rebuild, previous films are in my Classic 350 playlist 😁👍
th-cam.com/video/kkCPPPKm7xo/w-d-xo.htmlsi=q9eE7eAnXde-ZU8G
Agreed. If you think to spend £1000+ to make a 'better' bike maybe you bought the wrong bike.
Hi James, yes it is easy to get carried away buying accessories! 😁 cheers Bruce
Have you ever been stopped for your number plates ?
Hi, both are quick release with a yellow plate under the rear, I take the rear off if going into Edinburgh etc, but leave them on around here on country roads, police I think have too much to do nowadays to bother with a 50 something guy bimbling about minding his own business under 73mph 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Nice vlog...
Thank you 😁 kind regards Bruce
What’s that stuff you put on the spokes to stop them rusting ?
I kept rewinding but had trouble with your accent ….sorry !
I applied Lanoguard on the spokes but it’s not available in small quantities,
Also what size tyres are those
The trail tyres are same size as stock tyres 👍

Runs fine standard. Not the fastest but does 60 easy which is all you need. You are right. Better getting interceptor if you want speed. Then again folk will start trying to make them faster. 😂
So many folk are indeed obsessed about more speed zedcharlie! 😂😁
Cheers Bruce
What color was this from the factory?
Hi this was a Halcyon Grey
What is that metal on your tank?
The tank rack?
@@Coastriderscotland Thanks, unfortunately metal tank rack is not available in India. Will buy Scram411 and follow your modification steps on that bike.
How do you get away with that b&w plate 👍
Show plates that ate both quick release and i only use them around the country roads here, the front is just slitted in and the rear is on top of a yellow plate with velcro 😁👍
Ah ok get it now shall be trying that when she comes thank you
It should come stock with a Kickstarter.
I think so too as a back up for aging battery life once it gets older and the fact it would be hard to bump start yourself on a rough road or track 👍
Cheers Bruce
First thing: get a steadycam!
Or turn on stabilisation😁 it was switch off I discovered after editing the footage 🤣
Worth looking into a replacement camshaft for one of these. Standard at the back wheel this bike is about 15BHP and the high lift cam (Hitchcocks or Kent) will add another 6BHP or so, plus any benefits you get from the decat and air filter. Ride safe and enjoy 😎
I may still look at fitting a cam in the future having already done the stage 1 mods 😁👍
Cheers Bruce
Are those number plates legal ?
Hi G . Not on the rear but it’s on with Velcro on top of a yellow plate and I tend to go yellow for longer distances on the A1 or into town but that is not that often 👍 cheers Bruce
@@Coastriderscotland That’s great, they look really good and set the period look off very well. I’m tempted to get one.

I don't think you should drive on the grass what if everybody drove on the grass the grass would be dead you have a motor vehicle at that particular spot you should stay on the pavement out of respect if you hit the countryside well then you can go off road but that's a monument and you drove on the grass right up to it what if everybody drove on the grass right up to it
