Enjoy the honestly of Dr. McDougal, he's different but right in the long run on health.

Here is Dr. McDougall's politically incorrect, straight forward, non-BS answer to the simple question: "How can you tell if someone is obese?" Answer: "All you need to do is take off your cloths and look in the mirror." Oh, my heavens! Where are my fainting salts when I need them most? This is why I LOVE this man. (Regrettably, any shot he had at a career in the UN is effectively over . . . .)

The only problem is in reality there are zero long lived healthy populations or cultures anywhere in history that consumed a 90% starch based diet. The ones that did is because that is all they could get and their life expectancy was around 30.

I've followed Dr. McDougall's Starch centered (Potatoes and Rice are my faves) way of eating for 12 years now. My high blood pressure and high cholesterol are gone, so is my diabetes. Best of all is that the 120 pounds I have lost are permanently lost as I can eat a lot of low calorie density foods like Chef AJ recommends. So the weight stays off. Far better to have a BMI of 25 than the 42 it used to be.

Does everybody say u look too skinny & sick now? I never get one compliment on my 50 lb weight loss. Fat & sick is the new normal now.

@@jgrysiak6566 I definitely have run into that too. My diet is usually viewed as an extreme and restrictive diet that only crazy people would consider. I am 70 yoa. I love going to the gym 6 days a week where I enjoy a very intense 25 minute session on the treadmill and take a swim too. I don't take any meds and all my numbers are great. I feel so blessed to be able to do that after watching way too many people close to me get fat, sick, and yes die too, mostly caused by the food they are consuming. SO so many of them!

@@jgrysiak6566 Many of my friends are put off by the simple fact that I did lose a bunch of weight and are either threatened or jealous of that and I know many of them completely dismiss my accomplishments. I keep in mind I did it for me and only me. My best strategy is to make new friends. I even got a gym buddy to see Game Changers and related my history and he went completely plant based just like that. A lot of people blow me off but every once in a while, I get a success story. Gotta keep at it!

As a plant based physician, I completely admire and credit Johm McDougall with showing me the power of plant based nutrition and changing my whole perspective on allopathic medicine. It is a minor point but I would say there is food addiction. Addiction and dependence are two different things. By definition, addiction is when one continues to do something even though there is definite proof that it is deleterious to your life, eg continuing to drink/gamble even though it ruined your marriage/life, smoking even though you already have lung cancer, etc.... I know doctors, physician assistants, etc... who continue to eat the animal based foods even though it causes their heart disease including multiple heart attacks, progression of diabetes. People continuing to eat the Standard American Diet, SAD, even though their BMI is 30, 40 or even greater is evidence of food addiction to me. Dependence is when you get physiologic withdrawals when the activity or substance is taken away. You don't need dependence to be present for addiction to occur and dependence doesn't mean there is addiction. Caffeine headaches in the morning from not drinking coffee is an example of dependence. You won't go rob a liquor store for your morning cup of coffee. Perhaps John McDougall has an ulterior motive for saying there is no food addiction is to stress the fact that regaining your health is very achievable as seen by the results of his treatment program. Just as he used up day that he eats turkey on Thanksgiving. Either way, amazing what he has done to help people get healthy and inspire and educate so many plant based doctors and other health care providers.

There is no such thing as a plant based physician as it is not an accredited term by anything. What does the word based mean more than 50%? 70% of what the USA consumes is something that was originated from some plant so this would mean all people in the USA already eat a plant based diet.

    • @cnghiem67

@@StanDupp6371 plant based means I only eat plants. Physician, in this case, means I am a board certified, fellowship trained anesthesiologist. Thanks for your contribution to the conversation in getting people to be healthy. If people do what John McDougall recommends, 95% of what I do in the hospital would no longer be needed.

Dr McDougall is right there is aluminium in my favourite deodorant stick. Thankfully I have always known about aluminium pans. Asians use aluminium pans which would be expensive in the very large sizes that they use. I am so glad to hear that silica can help rid the body of aluminium. Thank you so much Dr McDougall. I have never felt more ill than I was after six years on a vegan diet. Within 2 weeks of gradually adding more animal based foods, I regained my life again and now 3 years later on a low carb animal based diet, I came from struggling with so many serious health problems to feeling fully alive with almost all of my vegan induced health problems completely resolved.

B12 is present is substantial quantities in Yeast only if it's fortified... As for everything else you mentioned, No. There is not a substantial amount of B12 is any of those foods. The most cost effective, safe and reliable way to get B12 is through regular supplementation.

@@danh5637 There was a longevity expert named Dr. Shigeaki Hinohara who lived to age 105. Every day he would drink a glass of milk with 1 tablespoon of olive oil for smooth skin and smooth arteries. The C15:0, Sphingolipids and Oleocanthal in this drink destroy cancer cells and protect the heart. He would also consume 100 grams of lean meat twice a week. Lots of theory at minute 18, but absolutely no help for a person looking to start a plant based diet except the good Doctor's summary: starch, fruits and vegetables. No oils or animal product for food.
    Great.
    Big help.
Like a dietary meal plan to get all the necessary nutrients.
Might as well just stick to just eating all the colors as I am doing, except I crave the meat satisfaction and its time for a tuna sandwich, a steak, or some chicken.
    No help here.

@StanDupp6371 I'm looking to go totally plant based, so many hormones and antibiotics in industrial meat production that I do not wish to ingest them anymore.
Everyone seems to need to take supplements for the vitamin B issue.
Just a few menu plans for a month would give me an idea how to move forward.
I'm in a remote area, so TH-cam is my search engine for this project.
