    Just recently got my license back and have visited my home city a couple times now. (just driving/no destination) And I’m “just a little” obsessed with this part of Louisville now!! Wolf Pen Branch Rd has some of the most biggest/ritzy homes I’ve ever seen in person!! I wish you would have showed more of these homes (with your side views, cam) 🤷🏼‍♂️🤷🏼‍♂️ or ventured off in a couple of these neighborhoods!! 😩 ESPECIALLY the one on your right at 22:46 (Harrods Glen Dr) one word.. WOW!!

    Thanks Chris, another great video. I have owned two dump trucks built at the Louisville Ford Truck Plant. I have a friend who grew up in Glenview (great shots of the hood). She partied with the servants when her parents were out of the house. Thank you for the shots of Norton Commons! Home rule suburbs are a way to avoid paying Louisville taxes. Great insights! Thanks!!

    Chris, just an important technicality about the city-county merger of 2003 - It wasn’t a merger. The City of Louisville dissolved and the governmental powers of Jefferson County Fiscal Court (a Kentucky county’s executive and legislative body) were transferred to a newly created entity called Louisville-Jefferson County Metro Government. So, Louisville Metro Government is actually the political successor to Jefferson County, not to the defunct and no longer extant City of Louisville. That being said, although it’s popular to talk of “city limits” such is a misnomer as all formerly unincorporated areas of Jefferson County as well as what was the City of Louisville were incorporated by the county.

  • @bgndkh1220
    @bgndkh1220 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Your inane comments throughout the video regarding all the small cities... they all existed YEARS before the city of Louisville expanded its footprint to encompasses all of Jefferson County in 2003. You even answered it yourself in your "Jeffersontown" video when you stated that "Louisville annexed all of the UNINCORPORATED land in Jefferson County." Well, all of those little cities/neighborhoods/subdivisions you drone on about we're already INCORPORATED prior to that! You make it sound like small groups of people go start cities in the middle of Louisville for no reason. Anyway, keep up the good work! Your filming and production are spot on, if only you could team up with some narration talent. (You seem to like left handed compliments)

    Anything within Jefferson County is "Louisville", after city/county merger in 2003. All subject to the same Mayor, same City Council, etc. They may have their own taxing districts for certain functions, and they didn't merge the Fire Departments but there is still just one 911 dispatch for emergency services. So while they may have a fancy sign out front, it's mostly just a neighborhood with a name. Luckily where I live in Louisville is still rural, lots of farmland....for now...progress! Ugh.

      A lot of this was built in the housing boom, late 90's, early 2000's. Norton Commons was the old WHAS farm property, owned by the Binghams who owned a media empire including two newspapers (back when that was a thing) and radio and TV stations. It's all new, built to look old. All that stretch of Hwy 22 was farmland until just maybe 20-25 years ago. Progress.

      @@shelbyz1974 It’s a particular quirk of Louisville, you give directions by telling what something USED to be. No lie, a common direction is to refer to the Old Sears Building in St. Matthews. It was the Sears department store for decades but hasn’t been for over 40 years. Still referred to by it!
