That’s a waterer for the chickens. It’s got 2 “chicken nipples” on the bottom pvc run that the chickens can peck at to release water. Similar to a rabbit or hamster waterer.
Amazon has them 4 for $26 I got me some ! I like them as much as the bag type but haven't noticed maggots in it like the bag type where maggots were crawling out to grow up
Yea we switched the try the bag type, the raccoons were hijacking out bait. The bags get nasty but get the job done. We just got our second order of fly predators in and are waiting on the cycle to break.
Hanging the trap under a rain shelter will surely help prevent the maggot from hatching. By the way, maggots are really good food for chickens and birds. The main problem with this kind of trap is to update the bait from time to time, especially to keep the bait wet, which is crucial to keep the trap functioning normally.
You paid way too much! Check ebay. I got 4 and was so impressed that I just bought another 12. US seller for $2.41 each. They're even cheaper from China if you can wait.
I would but the wife didn’t like it because she had to take the nipples apart and clean them from time to time. Now we have the biggest waterers they sell.
I think an "easy" way to empty them out would be to hold it upside down so the inner cone points down and then use a vacuum cleaner hose at the tip of the cone to suck them out.
My trap also attracted hundreds of very large flies where originally I had small flies around the coop. I felt like the traps work too well. Catching flies from miles away. I need to find out how to make your own sticky paper. I don't want my eggs tasting like flies because that's what the hens eat.
You need to buy the stuff that company sells, or else it won’t work well and it will be a waste of money. It’s not just the netting , a bowl & rotting food that will do , it works best with their bait.
Thank you for sharing! Very useful information - especially for someone like me who was on the fence about purchasing one 😃
Glad it was helpful!
Thanks. I just brought some trap. I am glad you got me an idea to do my
They help for sure! We tried some fly predators to try and get ahead of the lifecycle. So tired of flies!!
What is the 5 gallon bucket and plumbing for

Make sure your bait stinks! We've tried some other baits with no success.

Try beer, I understand that works perfectly. I'm waiting to receive mine in the mail now.
We have before, nothing works as well as the bait. It STINKS!
I see your chicken water system.
Can you do a video of it?

That could work, and just move it around to suck them all out.
I'm afraid crushing the dead flies after they're completely dry will do the magic. Please refer to my comments.
they work but i feel they just attract flys you oyherwise would not have had
Sometimes I wonder about that, but dead flies are better than live ones!

I haven’t seen ours eating them but they have a large area and plenty to forage.
Hotdogs are good for this thing; cheap and turns nasty fast.
JIMPONYD thanks we will add that next time!
Holy crap those flies look like they are on steroids!!!
They are huge!

We’ve found the worse it stinks the better it does.
Mine attracted a tom of flies and we were hopeful...then the next day they all got out! It was empty! Wasted $
Was there a hole or something? A raccoon carried off one of ours once because the food in it I guess
