Controlling The Fly Population On The Farm; THIS WORKS!

  • The flies always get really bad when the monsoon hits. We have always cleaned our pens once a week and have fly traps in the hopes to keep the fly population down as much as possible. This year we learned there was a little insect called Fly Eliminators. We tried them after the flies were already really bad. In two weeks we saw an enormous improvement and are very pleased! They will be part of our farm from here on out.

Try lemon balm flowers which help to get rid of the Flies it's already used for in the house as well as outside throw sprigs around the barn to get rid of the Flies and also I forgot to mention it's a natural way of getting rid of flies as opposed to using pesticides

Where do you get them, is there a brand you recommended- springs? Are they dried?

Lemon balm isn't easy to grow in the middle of the dry desert. The bags and fly eliminators are not pesticides

Does anyone know whether these are available in South Africa? We have an inconsiderate (and filthy) neighbour who doesn't clean out his chicken pens, and this makes everyone around miserable, because the flies are everywhere.

The fly traps are bringing them in because they stink and attract them. We made the same mistake hanging them where the flys were bad. I found out you want to hang the fly catchers outside of the area you are wanting the flys gone and it will draw them away from the area you are wanting to rid them from.

People claim this really works well:
I don't have livestock, but I'd surely try it.
    In a spray bottle:
2 cups apple cider vinegar ---- not white vinegar.
    2 tablespoons olive oil
    2 tablespoons dish liquid
    2 cups water
    20 drops cedar essential oil
    20 drops lemongrass essential oil
    20 drops citronella essential oil
20 drops tea tree essential oil
The dish liquid and the olive oil are needed for staying power. So it doesn't just evaporate off the animal quickly.
Make sure each oil is 100% whatever oil it's supposed to be, not mixed with anything else. I buy mine on Ebay.
Spray on livestock twice daily --- morning and late afternoon.
Gently tilt bottle back and forth before using each time to mix ingredients.
Happy spraying and good luck to all.

I've been doing this for 2 weeks. Seems to be working. First 3 days I sprayed the entire chicken coop and run every day, of course when the chickens are out, giving it enough time for it to dry before they come back in. Then after that around every 3rd day. I also spray the rear patio to keep them away from the house.

Oil can go rancid and essential oil irritates the skin so it’s not recommended by my vet

Chickens work for just about everything else... but for flies, those little wasps (aka fly eliminaters (they don't sting!)), they work really well! Got introduced to them working on a horse farm and used them myself when I was raising animals.
