i got it today, I truly like it! I have had a bad experience of trackpads throughout the years, BUT this trackpad actually works like magic. I am very surprised! The keyboard feels very good, very short travel but still I like it a lot. The price is of "I think I gonna cry" level, but I do not regret it at all. It feels quality in every sense and it works like charm, it really invites to WORK. Fantastic.
@@marcelopadilla1198 I got the 12.9. Of course the 11 is enough to work on, but size matters. Larger screen for drawing and visibility, but if you carry it around all day weight is important. Appreciate the review. I use a Logitech keyboard with the Magic Mouse but like to write notes as well as type. The sketch mode of the Logitech keyboard gives you the best of both worlds and its sold on the Apple website. I think I’m going to stick with the Logitech keyboard for my 12.9” iPad and get magic keyboard for 11” when traveling which will free me of using the mouse when I’m on the tray table of airplane. Thanks again.
they charge that much and can't even add adjustments for writing and drawing? the apple pencil is literally part of the iPad and they didn't even consider it? I'm not taking my tablet off when I paid 300-350 for this thing and I can't even rest my palm to write or draw so this to me is a deal breaker! idk why most of you don't think so probably because you don't even use the apple pencil, but it's built in so they should've added the adjustments.
I have had mine for a few days now and I don’t know how I survived without it. This is a great accessory from Apple and it is made strong and tough. Thanks for this video!
Great review! Thanks for mentioning that command period acts as an escape key!! Major “helpful knowledge” pickup on that tip. Also appreciated trackpad speed tip.
I cancelled my order after watching reviews. I realized paying $400 with tax for a keyboard is ridiculous. I initially wanted to use my iPad Pro 2020 as a full in computer but I realized I can’t run certain programs for school on it. I rather spend $600- $800 for an older MacBook than have to spend $400 for a keyboard...
Just asking, what programs do you need that can't be run on the iPad? For me I just have notetaking and word processing. I do run my iPad alongside my razer blade 15 though.
Will Xu I recently got into nursing school for the fall and the programs that we are going to be using to take our exams in class do not work with the iPad. Right now since my classes are online I have to use a lockdown browser program that doesn’t work with the iPad either. I really wanted it to be a computer for me but due to the fact that it can’t be my one machine for school I’m going to be purchasing a 2017 MacBook Pro. I kind of regret purchasing a 1,000 iPad that I’m only going to be using for note taking but I like it too much now to get rid of it
Here’s an idea for you, Why don’t you return it and get the older gen iPad Pro or an iPad Air? You’ll save money and you can get an older MacBook Pro. And you’ll still enjoy the older iPad Pro like you would the new one. That way you have a cheaper iPad for note taking and a full on MacBook laptop for ur laptop needs and software.
Basheer Lulu I can no longer return it due because it bought it right when it came out which was a little over a month ago, I honestly might just sell it on eBay and buy the 2018 12.9 inch, they are exactly the same..
Here’s what I did. I love the design of the Magic Keyboard so I bought it but I also use the tablet for note taking at work so I bought the cover buddy and a cheap tri fold folio case. When I’m done typing and using the keyboard and need to take note, I take the tablet off the magic keyboard and snap it on the folio. This ensures the iPad is protected when used on either case but can be used for note taking. I did have the Logitech Folio Touch and returned it. I found it very awkward to type on in tablet mode. The tablet can’t be detached from the case so you have to turn the keyboard and have it sit behind the tablet so it’s very awkward to have the keyboard on your palm when you’re typing or if you’re using it on a desk it feels weird to have the keyboard keys in contact with the desk surface, it will scratch the hell out of it.
I immediately subscribed to your channel as soon as you mentioned the CMD period combo for the Escape key function. Every other blog or TH-camr has either moaned about the lack of it or inability to map it to some other key at the top. You’re the first one I’ve seen mention it and kudos for that.
Elijah Peters Mine’s predicted for Friday but can’t imagine it’s gonna make it - hopefully they aren’t having supply shortages. They were pretty good when I ordered the actual iPad about a month ago
Can't wait to see the comparison between the magic keyboard and the smart keyboard that you talked about. It is bothering me that you cannot fold the magic one and use it just in normal tablet mode.
I’m so glad I watched this review. I was pretty much sold on the “magic” keyboard, but now I’m keeping my smart keyboard. I use my Apple Pencil all the time for taking notes, highlighting, drawing, etc. Also, I use my iPad Pro as a second screen for my MacBook Pro (thank God (&/or Apple) for Airdrop!!!).
You can also go into keyboard settings and remap Caps to ESC if you want. Fairly common for programmers to do this to any keyboard they use on any system.
I ordered the iPad Pro 12.9 2020 along with the Magic Keyboard and the Apple pencil. I can't wait until they arrive. I am sure it is going to be an amazing experience.
I'm seriously considering buying paper like. I'm glad they sponsor your show but they don't seem to offer a discount for any business you're driving to their site. Did I miss that?
I bought one with an iPad Pro 12.9 and I have to say, it’s fantastic. I believe 200-250$ would be a much better price but it’s really awesome, it really change how I use a tablet.
I have the 2018 model Smart Keyboard Folio and a Magic TrackPad 2. So I’m really looking forward to your upcoming video that compares that setup to this new Magic Keyboard Case!
Was anxious to come here and listen to you saying how much your workflow has improved with the brand new 12.9” 2020 ipad with trackpad and magic keyboard, considering you have 10 other ipads and 40 macbooks pro. Great! That must have really made the difference. Waiting for next ipad pro (rumored for november/december or maybe early 2021) and you saying HOW MUCH it changed your workflow and made your life different (totally different from this ipad pro)
“I don’t want to love it” This is how I feel about the Apple iPad Pro tilting cover. This is the first time I have attached my iPad to it and begun writing with it. It turns out I do find the keyboard a real pleasure to use. The backlight keyboard really helps me find my way on the keyboard when I fumble and move to another area. Fast first impressions: • The iPad is actually closer to my hands, and therefore me, because of the manner in which the iPad tilts. • The keyboard numbers are exactly in line or slightly over the row of numeric keys. This causes a strange issue with memory muscle when I go to the delete because I often will graze the lower portion of the iPad as if its in the way. This has only happened on my right hand so I suspect it is just as I mentioned- more of a memory issue, leaning on bad form and bad habits. • “Tapping” or “double-tap” does not work on the new trackpad. Its a great feeling trackpad, but you need to press, pretty deliberately, anywhere on the trackpad. The means that a quick thumb to the pad and press is a much as is needed- if no finesse is needed, which for me is most times. • The backlit keyboard is divine. It looks gorgeous. And though I consider myself a touch typist, when I do need to glance at the keyboard, I find my “bearings” quickly and ....pleasantly. I mean, this keyboard is really pleasant. • Autocorrect and completion suggestions are easier to tap while maintaining your hands on the keyboard. This allows me to maintain (proper) quick form with my hands in position on the keyboard. • Scrolling on the trackpad may just when in most situations. I love being able to touch my screen and scroll. In fact, most of my laptop smudges are due to reaching out in a browser and touching or scrolling. But with the plethora of ads and superfluous links on most of the pages I visit and read make can often make touching the screen a frustrating experience. No more with this trackpad. I prefer the scrolling action on this trackpad to my MacBookPro 13”. I’ll have to investigate and compare more on that later to understand why I feel this way. But will I abandon my quick ability to reach out and touch the screen to do something that makes more sense with a quick touch? Will I learn (and appropriately so) keyboard short cuts and thereby negate a simple swipe? Will I want to remove my iPad to use the pencil - a requirement it seems, in most usage cases.
I write a lot with my iPad Pro on Notability and not being able to flip the keyboard was going to be a big deal but I actually place the iPad Pro on a sleeve anytime I want to type. And have been doing that since I got it over a year ago. So am covered. I've actually never written on it with just the keyboard folio but the keyboard folio on a sleeve. Mouse support is a big deal for me and that's one of the main reasons am getting it. Since mouse support came out, my neck pains when using the iPad Pro has disappeared. Now I don't have to carry a Magic Mouse around which makes so much noise when working from the library.
Add up the cost of both the iPad Pro and the new Magic Keyboard. Now connect it either through hardwire or screen mirroring to an external 16:9 screen or projector. That 4:3 aspect display seems to let the air out of the “Pro” balloon and just may be the most expensive combo that doesn’t support native 16:9 aspect external display. And while this may be ok small businesses that really have no need for conference room presentations, it can be a show stopper for most corporate “ Pro” customers.
I’ve actually loved this keyboard so far. BUT as a handwritten note guy I do wish I could put it in drawing mode. I want to see a company make a drawing stand that you can attach to the iPad with the magic keyboard. Like some sort of additional smart folio. Idk if that makes sense but yea.
I’m more of a tablet type things so I’m sticking with the Smart Keyboard Folio that I have. I do use the Magic Trackpad, but only when I’m at a table so portability is not an issue. Thanks for the review!!!
Great review and interesting to hear that you are not as bothered by some aspects of it as other reviewers even if your ultimate conclusion is similar. BTW, really love the style of your reviews. You’ve become one of my must sees! Thanks for the great job.
Excellent review. We've seen people turning the keyboard around in order to have a very stable (front cover) base - and great angle - when you want to spend some time writing notes. Lacking with the iPads are stands that enable us to use them both in landscape and portrait - especially the latter, and also be able to charge them at once either position. Seen only one - like £120 (sorry, could not find the cie in my browsing history).
I’m definitely passing on the Magic Keyboard. I’m good with the Smart Keyboard Folio and a mouse. $350 is too much for material that’s gonna fall apart in less than 5 months.
DivineWaters On the mouse front - trust me (and I’m still rocking a 2017 12.9 ipad pro) as a new owner of the magic trackpad 2 (using the magic keyboard wireless) it has revolutionized my ipad in a way using the mouse (I was an early adopter months ago in an earlier beta) absolutely has not (gestures are a game-changer). Definitely worth the money / saving up for. I’m almost conflicted upgrading to the 2020 ipad pro, because with the new trackpad (and keyboard combo) mine still works amazingly.
@@deathbyastonishment5798 Nice. Definitely get your money’s worth out of it. My 2018 12.9 still runs like I just got it yesterday. I use a Logitech Bluetooth mouse that works really well, but I would like to get a Magic Mouse 2 or Magic Trackpad 2 eventually.
I think Microsoft nailed the design of this form factor with the Surface Pro X. I love the solution of tucking the pen away inside the keyboard cover! I'm ready for Apple to put the smart connector back on the bottom edge and add a kick stand to the iPad itself.
Yes this case is expensive however we all know that Best Buy and many other store are infamous for marking down these high prices so that will make them more accessible for most people. The problem is the patience needs for that to happen. Daily Tekk is one of my favorite channels. Just thought I’d ad my point of view!
Would a D-Brand skin interfere with the magnets or the smart connector? If it doesn't, maybe it wouldn't be much of a problem detaching it when you need to sketch. It still is a first gen product and hopefully will evolve from there. Also, you can detach and close the case and place the ipad on the case if you don't feel comfortable with a skin and sketching on a hard surface. Oh well, it is what it is, and it's an effort in engineering that gives you a choice in how you use your ipad pro. The smart keyboard is there if you are in between on touch and needing a keyboard, the smart folio is for those who need a case but use it primarily as a touch based device, which it is, and the magic keyboard case is for those who want the power and versatility of the ipad but primarily use it for typing and landscape oriented productivity like documents, video and audio editing, etc.. If you're looking at the use of each case from a universal standpoint, of course it will not be up to snuff. It's just like the apple pencil being an optional accessory, not required for using the device. It would be amazing if they'd make a universal use keyboard case that checks off everything you want it to do, but I'm sure that most of those features will go to waste because each and every person has different ways of using the device.
Good review. If this wasn't priced this high, I could accept the compromises of not being able to use it in portrait mode and its weight/bulk. I know it's a keyboard and not a case per se (like the folio case) but I feel that functionality and portability should be just as important as design, especially at this price point.
For me following setup works best: 12.9 iPad with smart folio case That way I can comfortably use it as a tablet without needing to take it off etc. But also I don’t have a keyboard or trackpad when I don’t use one Additionally I have my Magic Keyboard 2 I use primarily for PC (small version) When I leave my home I just take it with me in my bag I also have a little mouse with me So whenever I want to use keyboard or mouse I put the iPad with the smart folio in a comfortable position and take my peripherals out and use it Also the keyboard is a regular keyboard with ESC key etc. And it’s way cheaper This „modular“ way I always just use the peripherals I need
Great review❗️I was going to order this keyboard as soon as it was announced but glad I didn’t. I use my iPad Pro 99.99% of the time as a tablet so I would not be using this keyboard much at all. I look back last year I’ve actually typed four letters and I make a few entries in numbers daily and I use the on screen keyboard which works great for my purposes. I’ll just save the cash 💵 for new iPhone 📲 or Apple 🍎 watch ⌚️later this year.✅🤗👌
idk why people are crying over a row of absent function keys. the Ipad has never had these keys in any official keyboard nor the virtual keyboard. It doesn't need it. if you want function keys, use MacOs
Another great review. I’ve currently got both12.9 and 11 - so I ordered both size Magic keyboards to see which one works best for me. Are you using the 11 or 12.9 in this review?
That was a really great review. I have just forked out £1600+ on the iPad Pro 12" with Magic keyboard and pen. Still waiting for order to process, but I'm getting very very excited now. Plus I didn't know that the keyboard had a charging port 😲 go figure! My main point for getting this version, is the back-lit keys. Plus, believe it or not but my last iPad, was the very first one. Still working although not supported at all now. I look forward to future reviews 👍
So, you cannot remove the iPad, close the Magic Keyboard and set the iPad on the outside of the Keyboard. The magnets are still there, or they won't work because they are on the wrong side and it would be more of just a table?
I have a MacBook Pro (I have never used an iPad to any extent). I would dearly love an ergonomic keyboard - something I routinely use with my Windows laptop. A remote mouse would be nice to have.
Yay my question was first! Keen to see what Logitech come up with...if it’s anything like the new one for the non pro tablets that could be the goldilocks... personally I’m moving back towards the older keyboard...I use a lot of pencil for drawing and like 30% typing for emails and content etc.
I think if you are a traveler or floating desk worker this could be worth it. Also can be used in a retail situation. For those who use the iPad as a secondary device I see it as a luxury. My prediction is the 2nd generation will have the function keys.
Thanks for great videos. I know you cannot type on it if you put it in portrait mode but just wondering if the magnets would hold. There are certain things I like to view and scroll in portrait or to do FaceTime calls. Would love to know if that works. Seems the magnets are strong enough. Thanks! Have a beautiful day!
You were quick to catch this after it uploaded. When uploading video online lower resolutions become available to watch first until the full resolution becomes available
This is a perfect example of where Apple offers options. Some will prefer the Magic Keyboard, and other will prefer the Smart Keyboard Folio. Some will will have both and use them according to their strengths. People always complain when Apple releases new products or accessories e.g. "why doesn't it fold back on itself like the Keyboard Folio?". You cannot be all things to all people. This solution is likely to be a lot less sturdy and dependable if it also had to somehow fold up on itself. This is sturdy because of decisions Apple had to make on the hinge, base, cantilever mechanism, etc.
I realized the app is fantastical calendar app. Hey Chis, how do you have your Today View Calendar setup so that the whole month is shown? 4:36 Thanks for the positivity in your videos. It’s refreshing.
So the Magic Keyboard is more of a keyboard dock for the desk. Interesting. Would a Mac keyboard+trackpad or Logitech MX keyboard+mouse combo do the same, yet be more universal if they ever change the iPad form factor.
This is one of the best and honest reviews on the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 2020 and helped me to make my purchase decision. It’s not the price but your question how you gonna use the iPad Pro: as an iPad or a laptop? For me it’s an iPad which I use as an iPad. So my choice is the Smart Folio Keyboard. Thank you for your help ;)
I am using One Note on a new iPad with the magic keyboard. When I am on a page attempting to type, typing works fine, but when I hit the space bar, the cursor jumps to the search window and does not put a space into my text! What am I doing incorrectly?
I ordered the Smart Keyboard and not the Magic Keyboard. I just don’t think the Magic is worth the price. Plus the added weight might as well use my MacBook Pro...Good review

• The iPad is actually closer to my hands, and therefore me, because of the manner in which the iPad tilts.
Chris how will this impact your desk setup? Will you just use it for travel when you go out and about?
I’ll have to detach it and put it on a different stand most of the time...
DailyTekk got you! So it will be mainly used when you go out and travel the right? And rest of the time you will leave as you currently have set up.
Not gonna lie, my buttcheeks clenched when you were holding the iPad upside down and shaking it!

I’m more of a tablet type things so I’m sticking with the Smart Keyboard Folio that I have. I do use the Magic Trackpad, but only when I’m at a table so portability is not an issue. Thanks for the review!!!
Hi Chris, I bought the keyboard and I have noticed that the battery on the iPad drains much faster now, have you found this to be the case?
Great review and interesting to hear that you are not as bothered by some aspects of it as other reviewers even if your ultimate conclusion is similar. BTW, really love the style of your reviews. You’ve become one of my must sees! Thanks for the great job.
I appreciate that!
Probably not a question you was expecting but what is the minimal stand u have for the iPad?
It’s from Twelve South (and in case you’re asking about the other one it’s from Satechi)
@@Dailytekk thank you so much dude.
I have a dbrand skin on with my magic keyboard and its working great
Good review. If this wasn't priced this high, I could accept the compromises of not being able to use it in portrait mode and its weight/bulk. I know it's a keyboard and not a case per se (like the folio case) but I feel that functionality and portability should be just as important as design, especially at this price point.
For me following setup works best:
12.9 iPad with smart folio case
That way I can comfortably use it as a tablet without needing to take it off etc. But also I don’t have a keyboard or trackpad when I don’t use one
Additionally I have my Magic Keyboard 2 I use primarily for PC (small version)
When I leave my home I just take it with me in my bag
I also have a little mouse with me
So whenever I want to use keyboard or mouse I put the iPad with the smart folio in a comfortable position and take my peripherals out and use it
Also the keyboard is a regular keyboard with ESC key etc. And it’s way cheaper
This „modular“ way I always just use the peripherals I need
Martin Sauer I like your thinking.
Dan Rustle I agree, the swipe functions work so well on this keyboards track pad
if you want an actual laptop use MacOS, if you want a trackpad and keyboard use MacOS too, your comment makes no sense
Another great review. I’ve currently got both12.9 and 11 - so I ordered both size Magic keyboards to see which one works best for me. Are you using the 11 or 12.9 in this review?
Thanks. I’m using the 12.9” in this vid
Always appreciate your reviews and content brother. thanks!
So, you cannot remove the iPad, close the Magic Keyboard and set the iPad on the outside of the Keyboard. The magnets are still there, or they won't work because they are on the wrong side and it would be more of just a table?
This was the review I was waiting for. Thanks Chris!! Mine should be here the April 27-May 4. CANT WAIT!!!
Awesome enjoy
I have a MacBook Pro (I have never used an iPad to any extent). I would dearly love an ergonomic keyboard - something I routinely use with my Windows laptop. A remote mouse would be nice to have.
Chris this is a great review and with the next generations of both the iPad-12 & Smart Keyboard, I’m all in!
Cool glad you liked it!
Pass through charging is only 5w, right? So battery drain is not fully covered when using pass through charging?
Yay my question was first! Keen to see what Logitech come up with...if it’s anything like the new one for the non pro tablets that could be the goldilocks... personally I’m moving back towards the older keyboard...I use a lot of pencil for drawing and like 30% typing for emails and content etc.
What tv monitor is this? Where can I get one and where did u get that stand for the iPad that looks like it belongs to a canvas?
is the actual trackpad bigger on the 12.9 ... than on the 11 ... or just the keys and keyboard size
The magnets are definitely strong enough
Logitech Combo Touch Keyboard seems much better. Not only a row of function keys but cost much less. Hope they make one for iPad Pro 11”.
Why is this video only available in 360p?
i thought my phone had a problem 😂
You were quick to catch this after it uploaded. When uploading video online lower resolutions become available to watch first until the full resolution becomes available
@@danielcalvert5260 Thanks for the info!
Is it possible to use ipad pro on magic keyboard with a wireless mouse? 🤔
I need one but holding off due to the high price point. I settled for a folio and Satechi accessories for my home office setup
Very honest and loads of information thank you 🙂
Does the pass through charging also work for the 2018 ipad pro? The keyboard itself works with the older models right?
I've seen some people flipping them over with the case on and using the case like an easel in order to use it as a drawing surface.
Yep, shown at the end of this video... just weird for me and not something I’d actually want to do
@@Dailytekk Yeah doesn't look very practical at all haha
This is a perfect example of where Apple offers options. Some will prefer the Magic Keyboard, and other will prefer the Smart Keyboard Folio. Some will will have both and use them according to their strengths. People always complain when Apple releases new products or accessories e.g. "why doesn't it fold back on itself like the Keyboard Folio?". You cannot be all things to all people. This solution is likely to be a lot less sturdy and dependable if it also had to somehow fold up on itself. This is sturdy because of decisions Apple had to make on the hinge, base, cantilever mechanism, etc.
Is it compatible with 2018 iPad Pro ?
Yes
I realized the app is fantastical calendar app. Hey Chis, how do you have your Today View Calendar setup so that the whole month is shown? 4:36 Thanks for the positivity in your videos. It’s refreshing.
Shout out to the Smart Keyboard, still love it and my favorite to this day. (Y, wish lit at times, but as you say still the best fit for many.)
Great video!!!! Keep it up!
The point you can buy an actual entry level ipad or an iPhone SE kinda puts it in perspective. Great review man! Thanks.
So the Magic Keyboard is more of a keyboard dock for the desk. Interesting. Would a Mac keyboard+trackpad or Logitech MX keyboard+mouse combo do the same, yet be more universal if they ever change the iPad form factor.
Does the new trackpad keyboard work with the previous model ipad pro?
400 euro for the Magic? Now I know why they call the other keyboard the Smart one 😂😂😂😂
I saw another reviewer point out that CMD-Q doesn’t work on this keyboard to close an app. I that true?
You leave Tap to Click off? I love that feature. Light taps instead of clicks.
I have it on for the external trackpad but turned it off for this because I like clicking it so much lol
Does Office 365 / Microsoft 365 on iPadOS have full support of the trackpad on the Magic Keyboard?
Anychance coverbuddy is compatible with this magic keyboard?
I got a question how do you type this on a keyboard ñ ??? I've wondered this FOREVER...
BigRob option + n
Will the cover buddy fit with this case?
This is one of the best and honest reviews on the Magic Keyboard for the iPad Pro 2020 and helped me to make my purchase decision. It’s not the price but your question how you gonna use the iPad Pro: as an iPad or a laptop? For me it’s an iPad which I use as an iPad. So my choice is the Smart Folio Keyboard. Thank you for your help ;)
Glad it was useful! Thanks for letting me know. Enjoy!
Which iPhone case are you using?
I am using One Note on a new iPad with the magic keyboard. When I am on a page attempting to type, typing works fine, but when I hit the space bar, the cursor jumps to the search window and does not put a space into my text! What am I doing incorrectly?
I ordered the Smart Keyboard and not the Magic Keyboard. I just don’t think the Magic is worth the price. Plus the added weight might as well use my MacBook Pro...Good review
Does It work as a Smart cover or case or whathever is It called ?
Also, the control button can be programmed to the Esc key
this makes the xps 2-in-1 and lggram laptops more attractive
What case is that on your iPhone?
Here's a list of about 10 things wrong with it, but since I'm an Apple fanboy? I love it!
Can you compare the magic keyboard against the brydge keyboard also? Thank you!
They’re supposed to be sending one my way so we’ll see..
