  • Gary Friedman spends some time talking about some of the unobvious things he discovered while writing his best-selling ebook on the A6300 camera. You won't find these insights in cursory camera reviews! Includes a discussion of all of the different focusing modes. Gary's ebook is available at friedmanarchives.com/a6300 Note: Also applicable to the A6500 camera.

    Dude, I am so mindblown by this video... I just got my first camera to use on a 4200km thru hike in US and I am super excited for both the camera and the trip, the camera is a a6300 and hearing these things just helps me understand the sheer amount of engineering and thought put into a camera and functionality. Thanks a lot for explaining a lot of this, very helpful and cool!

    Awesome video. You did a great job on explaining the focus points very simple and with great examples. I do like that you use the kit lens because my theory is that if it can be done with the kit lens, then other other (better) lens it will work at least if not better than the kit.

    Gary, your explanations of camera functions are easily the best I have seen in any media. When I'm going to update my body next time, I'm definitely going to buy your book about the camera. Problem is that Sony has not yet done e-mount camera that beats nex 7 in every aspect, so I'm still waiting :)

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives  8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you like my explanations! You might have to wait awhile for something that "beats" the NEX-7 - that camera was a unique beast!

    • @sjsphotog
      @sjsphotog 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      Except the NEX-7 menus suck big time. if they had the NEX-7 with the new a6000/6300 menus that would be a god send, I have both the a6000 and NEX-7. love both of them. but yes we all wish for a NEX-7 body with the 2 wheels (tri-nav) and the a6300 features and menus. Prob will NEVER happen though sadly. NEX-9/a9000 is a pip dream Im pretty sure. there is only a small niche forum user market for that camera no matter how much they think there is WIDE demand for it. Sony needs to make money not make specialzed cameras for a small sample of their market

    great video. the best. thank you.
    I'm an amateur photographer with intentions of becoming pro travel/hiker photo/videographer.
    1. for still photography which one do you recommend 80D or A6300 (all purpose but mostly outdoors traveling/forest/beaches or even people, city or subjective)?
    2. Do I have enough lens options to fulfill all my needs?
    3. what will be the limitations comparing to 80D (lenses or accessories)?
    4. Should I choose 80d over A6300 because of Touch Screen Focusing System [very important]
    I know for traveling mirrorless is a better but I don't want to compensate on quality or dynamic range also.
    your input on this will be very very helpful.

    • @FriedmanArchives
      @FriedmanArchives  7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Hi, Mouktik. Both cameras are excellent, so you can't make a bad choice. If touch screen focusing is important to you, that would eliminate the A6300 since it doesn't have it. Hope this helps! GF

    How do you get the focus exposure lock to work? What setting do I have to be on? I'm trying it on manual but it gives me an error saying the flash wasn't available in this mode. I'm trying to take a picture of a person standing behind a fire at night but the camera tries to focus on the fire instead of the person. Can't figure it out.

      Thank you, would soon be ordering my ebook for the a6500, my first serious camera ! One question: A SIGMA 16mm lens MADE for an APS-C sensor, is effectively 16mm right? All youtubers continue to say there is a "crop factor" ... but that doesnt make sense if the lens was designed for this sensor size and labelled 16mm.

    Great information. I was actually planning to buy this camera over the weekend but I got scared off by some distressing news. I began seeing information about how the A6300 overheats especially when recording 4K video. Do you know if this problem still exists? What are your thoughts on this? Don't draw any conclusions until you can duplicate the experiment I did and get a picture showing the strong distortions. If you can't, my claim that you can't disable it is true.

    • @ahicken
      @ahicken 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      I get it, and I'd already seen them, that's why I commented. I just confirmed again in lightroom by turning "enable profile corrections" on and off in the "Lens corrections" tab. I also opened in a 3rd party raw just for grins to compare and the distortion was the same as lightroom with profile corrections disabled.
      NOTE: This was a6000, not a6300, but I suspect it's exactly the same. Certainly I experienced the same with my NEX-6 and NEX-5 cameras.

    • @FriedmanArchives

      Just tried it again with the new version of Lightroom (cc 2016) and -- you're right! I can turn off the automatic distortion correction. This differs from previous behavior with the RX-100 III and IV where the correction couldn't be disabled. Thanks for keeping me honest!

    "i was shooting a friend of mine" Haha i'm always giggling like a little girl when camera guys talk about shooting someone or something. do native english speakers have same problem? because, i think, that its because we have different words for shooting and shooting in finnish language :D
    oh btw, have you ever tried drive by shooting? Or shooting the guests and the couple at the wedding? Shooting a newborn baby is easy, and to be honest, shooting five-year-olds at the playground should be doable too. Have you ever taken any shots at a club? Has it ever happened to you, that you just have to keep on shooting, sometimes for hours in one place, to shoot anybody that someone told you to?
    this is getting crazy and i think that its better to stop here.. xD

    The power zoom lens is trash, and not sharp at all. There's considerable softening near the edges of the frame. only the center of the frame is sharp.

    • @binda8231
      @binda8231 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      There seem to be extremely different ones.Some seem to be really bad and some are of unexpected quality (especially for their price). Of course thanks to the Software corrections. So they are not extremely sharp in the edges, but better than most older wide angle lenses I tried so far and surely good enough for most situations. I only have an A5000 with this lens but that's fine instead of compact cameras und offers dynamics most SLRs don't. So it's alright by me.By the way the software correction can very easily be disabled in older versions of lightroom. But usually you would defenitely not do this...A short check right know showed me, that it's no longer possible. Seems Sony followed other manufacturers here...
