A few minutes in Derail Valley

Here's a handful of minutes of extreme steam operation. Hauling a heavy train mostly uphill in the rain, fighting wheelslip, firing the engine and making sure to keep water in the glass. This game can be pretty daunting for sure if you get into a bind.

insanely low pressure and harsh water injector pumping.
1) you should maintain your pressure as high as possible (but dont let safety valve pssst steam out because it is a literal lose of water and energy) in order to provide high performance. The higher the pressure the less steam engine uses so the water usage is lower as well. 12+ bar is okay (safety valve blows at 13 bar on s282).
2) dont use blower while in motion because it is lose of steam with zero draft increase because engine's firebox air intake and steam exhaust from cylinders designed to increase draft automatically the faster you go and the more steam you use, keep your damper up at all times while in motion tho
3) dont flick injector wheel so hard, opening it on full floods boiler with cold water from tender instantly killing pressure, keep it opened 1-2 notches when you use steam to keep water level, 3rd notch is okay if water drops to low.
steam is all about smoothness and patience, dont be harsh with her. also the game dont force you to use steam engines as they provide no advantages over diesel locomotives asside cheaper run costs which can be doubtful with unskilled operator

Hey I'm really new, could you tell me the best way to use sand on wet tracks? Lets say im in a De2 going up incline do i just dump as much sand as possible or increments?

Yeah, I’ll admit the injector usage was not pretty during this run. I should have filled the boiler while I was in the yard before leaving, but hey, lower water level means increased steam generation, right? I was working the blower so hard mainly experimenting to see if I could overcome the extreme pressure loss of absolutely dumping fresh water to the boiler. Appears to have been unsuccessful given the tanked boiler pressure anyway. Definitely not my greatest performance overall, but I mainly posted this to show a friend the game so I wasn’t looking for peak performance.
