Hi, Kara, your tips were really useful. May I also suggest that a good way to prepare to think fast and talk smart is to do all your thinking IN ADVANCE and write your ideas down. For instance, if I'm attending a meeting on water conservation, I'll sit for 30 minutes and reflect on all I know about the subject and consider it from every angle. I'll jot everything down. Then I'll check one or two authoritative synopses. Finally, I'll devise several possible questions and practise answering them. It may take an hour to prepare myself to speak for two minutes. It works.

Great video Kara! I would also recommend once you are poised with a challenging question is to 1. Clarify the question. What are they specifically asking you 2. Make assumptions in answering the question 3. Based on who your audience is answer the question that you wanted asked and not the question that was asked . 4. Use frameworks to answer question. If for example the question is your corporations profitability, state the general facts about either increasing revenue or lowering cost.

I definitely agree with you, it was useful.However, we don't need to use this method in some situations and some people prefer to take time before talking so my philosophy it is not necessary but useful. @syeella8135 Tell your mind every morning. I am liked by all and my points are heard by all very nicely. This exercise is to boost your confidence permanently. Put it as a daily morning ritual. Practice in front of mirror.
There’s a good TED talk about this. Basically, tell yourself you are excited, not scared. Then remind yourself that the anxiety is just your being excited. It’s calming and does seem to help.

I think talking fast is the best way to carry on your conversation smoothly, even if you hve something in mind which you could not articulate properly or something you are missing during conversation, you could carry on by restructuring in speedway, instead of muting completely...thts my experience
Love the tips although very often it is the lack of ability to keep up with discussions in a meeting that gives me the most fear. I can be a good speaker but have big psychological trouble listening and understanding deep conversations.

Go back to how you were raised or talked to when you were in school. When you find that ONE place, that ONE person that made you feel insecure then you have answered your question. It does take a lot of concentration to do that. Asking questions for clarification or rephrasing what people say might help you jump into the conversation as you prepare your own thoughts.
You mixed the phrases sometimes i.e. "thinking smart and talking fast" rather than the other way round. The golden rule is not to talk fast. Take your time while talking, you own the moment, your brain will be untangled and you can think more clearly. You're not in a contest with Eminem.

The point of worrying about other's thought is good. The point of winning time, will Not Help, If you are Just Not intelligence enough to think about the topic and generate an opinion. Same for the connectors, If you are smart, connectors will Power Up your thinkings. If you are dump, admitting that you dont have the answer yet, is true confidence
Talk fast usually showing lack of confidence and nervous! It’s ok not to know everything in the meeting but you can find the answers later and get back to whoever asked you that question. Speak slow, polite showing you’re professional and confident! By the way, what others think about you isn’t your problem. Ironically, no one actually thinks about you.

Great question. Speaking slow doesn't mean you can't think fast. It means you're thoughtful about what you say. Many articulate speakers speak slower so they can choose the right words to express what they want. Just make sure it's not too slow.

I am sure you have noticed the video has been edited to cut the gaps between words.
~140 words per minute is a good talking speed and what I was taught by a voice coach.

Great question. Speaking slow doesn't mean you can't think fast. It means you're thoughtful about what you say. Many articulate speakers speak slower so they can choose the right words to express what they want. Just make sure it's not too slow.
