thank you for such a good quality video Alan... been wrenching since i was a kid in the 60's but i was on the fence about changing out the spark plugs on my girlfriends 2011 WRX on account of the close quarters n all... so i goggled, "how to", and your video came up... thanks again Alan, gonna pimp her ride out with the good stuff tomorrow!
Great video. Tbh, at first I was wondering the need for more WRX/ST install and maintenance videos but yours are really good for beginners as you don’t skip steps and assume someone knows some of these steps. Could have used some of these videos starting out. Keep up the good work!
Thanks man!! As a beginner, I've followed many tutorials for different projects and I tried to include steps that I would find the most helpful if I were following it myself
Change em every 30k if modified. Sometimes even sooner. Just like oil changes, gear oil changes , and coolant changes. Do it all in half the recommended time, and the car will last forever. Never be cheap when it comes to a car!!
Wow! The exact video I was looking for!! .. hello I’m new to the channel.. I have a 2014 sti hatchback first time Subaru owner. I will be doing the spark plugs this weekend.. great video easy to follow and very well explained! 😊👍
Great job as always .. i have a code that I keep clearing every 2-3k miles it pops up p0852.. nuetral input high circuit. Don’t really see much thread about it. I’m stage 2 and the car runs the same it’s just annoying of having to clear it with accesport every 2-3k miles 🤦🏻♂️
Thanks! I haven't had that error code before but some people in the forums say they had to replace the neutral switch/wires to stop the code from coming back www.clubwrx.net/threads/cel-code-p0852.134610889/
I wish you went into more detail about how to get the bank 4 coil pack back in, because I have been absolutely struggling to get it back in. For one hour now and I cannot seem to figure it out. You kinda flew over it in this video.
I dont see anybody talking about resetting the throttle or idle or any of that after removing the battery. Do the 19+ STI's relearn everything on its own or you have to do something to it?
While things like the accessories, (time/date, passenger window etc.) will have to be reset when removing the battery, the ecu will relearn on its own as you drive and the tune will not be affected
@@STi_Alan thank you brother! I did my spark plugs recently and the car’s throttle acted funny for a few miles. I read somewhere that the throttle position had to relearn. The idle as well. It’s been great since! The spark plugs aren’t as bad as people say, you just have to get creative and/or be good at Tetris lol
I can't seem to get the coil pack and boot back into cylinder 4. Is there a drawing on how to do it? How much are you bending the boot? Thanks for the video.
I wish there was a drawing of how to do it but it's kind of just a bad design of how little space you get for cylinder 4. I kind of had to put it on with the bolt on the coil pack facing the wrong way and once it was on I could rotate it properly. It took a few tries to get the perfect angle when putting the coil pack back in but once you get it, it should go on without too much of any extra force
Plz becareful how you angle the universal swivel because if you don’t have it at the right angle you might crack the ceramic or worse pit to much tension on the spark plug and cause a big headache.
oh, yes I did have one that had a socket with swivel joint attached as one piece but it didn't allow as much movement compared to the one I used that were in separate pieces so if you had to choose just one, I'd go for the one as separate pieces
Did you manage to get it back in? It can be a little bit of a struggle, especially for cylinder 4, but you will eventually get it back in after playing Tetris for a bit
It’s literally a b**** to get it aligned correctly. The boot has to slide over the plug and when you can’t see anything it’s a nightmare. Have a lot of patience and use some lube to get the sleeve to slide easily over the plug. Good luck.
Yep 5/8" or 16 mm spark plug socket for the EJ engine on my VA STI. But I see a lot of people in the forums saying they needed a 14 mm spark plug socket on some of the newer Subarus
Cylinder 4 might require a bit of extra maneuvering and patience. I was able to get the coil pack in with the bolt facing the wrong side in order to get the boot over the spark plug, then I could rotate it to the correct position
@@STi_Alan It was cylinder 2 that was giving me the issue but I'll give it a try, thank you for replying, and it's a fantastic tutorial to follow along with!
this video is gonna be a huge help to anyone with a Boxer Engine. the tight squeeze maintenance is inevitable for every Subaru owner.
Yes, hopefully this video is able to help make the job a little bit easier
Great video no bs just straight forward and to the point. You helped me change my son's plugs on his car and get him going again! Thank you!
Awesome!! I'm glad I could help! 👍
Your videos are coming in so clutch, I just got my STi like a month ago and I've been finding these super helpful!
Yay!! I'm really glad I could help, and congrats on the STi!

Thanks this video will hopefully save me 500 big ones
Let's go!! ✌️
Thankful for this video. Was able to change spark plugs myself.
Awesome!! I'm glad to hear ✌️
Yes! This video gave me the courage to do it. Save me $300 from shop labor.

Maintaining a car is definitely a never ending job!
Appreciate the video, I'll be replacing the coil packs this weekend with my son, since there is a misfire in cyclinder 4. 🙌
Awesome! Best of luck to you both!!
Need more friends like you brotha .
Haha Thanks man! ✌️
Love the video!! Not many videos show how to do left side of the engine. And very straight forward. Gonna do my tomorrow!! Thanks again!
Thanks Peter, I'm glad you enjoyed!! Good luck and have fun ✌️
I never comment on videos, but good job man. Couldn’t ask for a better video.
Thank you!! I'm happy to hear that 😁✌️

I subscribed and watched another video and realized you're from Michigan, we are all well!
Haha nice!! The subie community is pretty strong here in Michigan!
Just did mine, took me 20 mins … time consuming part was removing the intake and secondary air compressor
Very good!
Thank you for these precious tips!
Greetings from Italy
You are very welcome! ✌️
Thanks homie! Ill b doing this soon on my recent new 20 sti w/21k miles when new. Im at 26k now. May do now or spring when i hit 30k.
Aye no problem, thanks for watching!! That sounds great, hope everything goes smoothly!

Thanks so much!!

Thanks for the feedback, the design definitely makes it challenging getting it back in

Thanks very true, gotta be careful!
Did you use a spark plug socket with a small swivel?
Yes, a swivel joint makes this job a lot easier!
@@STi_Alan sorry I meant was that special socket with a swivel attached as in one piece?
oh, yes I did have one that had a socket with swivel joint attached as one piece but it didn't allow as much movement compared to the one I used that were in separate pieces so if you had to choose just one, I'd go for the one as separate pieces

so to take out the spark plug it’s a 16mm socket? i got a 14mm 🤦🏻♂️

You should do injectors also
My car is at 61,000 miles needs plugs done called dealer they said 382.00$ oil change 120.00$ .
Maintenance can definitely be expensive!
Great video but this job will stress you out so if you have time just take it easy.
Thanks! Yes you definitely have to keep a leveled head to stay sane
Fark that!.... OK I'll stop bitching about having to pull both throttle bodies and air tubes off of a 370GT SP.
😂 ...It's what makes a Subaru a Subaru
400th like haha
Haha Nice!! Thanks for smashing that like button 👍
Any suggestions on how to re-install the coil? I cant seem to fit it back into place no matter what i try
