Correction(s): The original vanilla standard edition didn’t come out on 5 DVD’s but 4 CD’s (though was increased to 5 CD’s later, as the game came with updates/patches on-disc). The Vanilla collectors edition had the game install on both format: 4 CD’s and a single DVD. Also, EU owners of the TBC CE were able to get the netherwing pet, if they send blizzard Paris a cutout of the CE box bar-code + a copy of proof of purchase (the receipt). They also received the murloc pet as a “sorry for that mistake with the TBC CE”
ugh the large one with the dwarf and night elf on it and the small brown one with the orc and tauren on it. i remember those quite clearly, amazing for in game tips, and even sprinkled in lore. amazing i read these for hours.

Excellent video! However, I would like to make a small correction, the Vanilla edition did have a Pre-Sale edition. It had two formats: The European format only came with the box and inside came the game code and a CD with 5 songs from the soundtrack; in the American version this box came inside another cardboard box that also included an excerpt from the book "The Well of Eternity". I have a copy of each of these editions in my collection.
This also covers how well technology has improved over the last 20 years. Considering I grew up with games requiring multiple disks to play the game and the game requiring many hours to download.
Something this videos did not cover was the box itself. Blizzard maintain a quality packaging since the W3 Collector's Edition - essentially 2 boxes, good material, that open like a slipcase - my Vanilla CE does not have a single dent in it! For reasons that *surely* have nothing to do with being cheap, they changed the packaging with Shadowlands - now it's just one box that opens almost like a CD case. As someone that has them all and also has worked as a packaging designer, I *despise* the new format, they are nowhere near as durable as the old one. For almost 20 years I've stacked them on top of eachother, in 2 rows, my Shadowlands and Dragonflight ones are bent!!
I get nostalgic and want to play WoW again, then I saw the monetization of Classic TBC and was like "This is garbage." I always have to remember, WoW I loved is dead and nothing Activition will do will bring it back.
You got it wrong the get the start. Vanilla came with CD's, not DVD's. You also forgot the Vanilla beta pre-order that included beta key for the final beta and a soundtrack on CD.
One more issue you could mention with DF is several (myself included, plus the long thread of people on the official forums posts) CE’s that didn’t have the CD Key included. Blizzard’s fix for this was for people to submit a ticket and then call CS to follow-up. I eventually got mine via email, a few hours before DF went live.
By the way, another cool feature you forgot to mention is the collector edition pets apply to both the latest expansion and classic, as a person whom owns a Lurky. I have it in both visions of the game.

Still a proud of owner of my Vanilla-Cata Collector's Editions! And for the original 3 pets you had to choose from for the Vanilla Collector's in MoP I think you got all 3 pets without having to choose! So I have all 3 pets and FoS instead of just one!

They 100% were because in said announcement video, they show off the Goblins, the Worgen, both starting zones, along with many of the old zone revamps. The Cataclysm part alone shows he really doesn't know what he is talking about. Using his logic, Square Enix trumps Blizz massively by creating each new expac for FFXIV in like 6 months.

Since when did Frosty have flavor text? I've had Frosty as my main use pet since WotLK and never saw any text. I have every CE except vanilla, MoP and Dragonflight. I didnt start playing until halfway through classic, wasnt actively playing much when Cata released so didnt get that, and dont have Dragonflight because I waited too long to order and missed out.
No behind the scenes dvd for Shadowlands makes sense though, it was built from home, during Covid, no one is going allow film crews in to their homes during that time lol
13:20 WoD was one my most favorite xpacs because it's what brought me back to WoW. The zones, dungeons, classes, music, raids, and characters were all amazing! Just sadly underutilized

I bought the art book for Classic and Wrath from a second hand store. trying to find the music CD for classic to wrath as I loved them but that's a bit hard. sure I can get spottie or listen to them on youtube but there is something about having the CDs. also im not sure if this counts but the battle cheasts (containing classic and burning crusade) Im not sure if there was more in them then just the CDs and manual.

I was working at Gamestop at the time and we very much were taking pre-orders. Just like all stores had been doing for games for years prior. Once it was announced, stores took pre-orders.

Funny enough own all the Collector's Editon, yet didn't know stuff like TGC card with code been possible or the Book in BFA been a story book.
Remember when you used to get a free month when you bought the game? Now you only get it if you spend an extra $60 on the collector's epic editons.
