There’s something so incredibly powerful about a performer that the orchestra is willing to speed up and slow down for. She slowed down her opening which gave it more gravitas and then sped back up through, “And if I’m flying solo.” Kerry is such a commanding force.
I think that's a testament to the whole show. The orchestra should be in sync with the actors and vice versa. They should always be dancing together as one.
On the score it says colla voce which means the orchestra follows the voice. It's smart that they did that so each elphaba can sing it slightly differently
The most amazing performance of Wicked I have ever seen. The house was rocking - even when Kerry ran on at the start. You could fee the electricity in the audience - it was all building for Defying Gravity. The roof cam off - the recording doesn’t do justice to just how loud the audience reaction truly was. Never see another performance like it. Truly memorable

omg the way this recording had a choke hold on me back in 2009. I remember exactly where I was, refreshing TH-cam, and waiting for this audio to come out. The Kerry hype was so real. The video didn't come out until years later, and it felt so fresh all over again.
I have so far seen 3 performers who were breathtaking in singing DG: Kerry Ellis, Rachel Tucker and Willemijn Verkaik. I sldd also saw Kerry sing with an orchestra on TH-cam. It was just perfect.
I love how she sounded here. When she returned again she sounded tired and honestly kind of bored with the role. She was just going through the motions and there was no excitement or anything behind her voice. It was all so mechanical and just blah. Here she is fierce and powerful and her sustain is just insane!
I was there. Most people in the audience were there to say goodbye to Kerry and wish her well. I think we achieved that 😁Such a great night I’ll never forget.
Man you cant hear her. It would drive me crazy going to a show on Broadway. The artist sings one big note and you cant hear them for the rest of the song 😂😂😂
one thing I don't like about Kerry is she moves too much! And then (of course) she runs out of breath because she's straining so much for no reason! That's why Idina, to get away with moving a lot, did slow flowy gestures instead of *violent angry looking gestures*. I can only immagine she got out of that lift covered in sweat-
